I was at a private event last night that they catered and it was wonderful!! Matt and Maria were so lovely and the menu was fantastic. Lots of fun little bites with so many amazing flavours and textures. The sos e was very cute too for a small event. Was here for a Yelp Elite event.. they have paired beautiful dishes along with Jacobs Creek Wine! The ambience is so good and very welcoming.. so are the hosts and the chef is one of the owners. The paired cocktail style dishes were amazing.. especially the Cornish hen parfait was very well done. Also not to forget there are other pairings but the most exciting one was the dessert. The food is deliciously done, and to think that the chef finds a way to do different things every time makes calling him a chef seem like an insult. This man is an artist. And this is my impression after trying his food just once. This place apparently does mostly vegan food, but will put a twist on it when catering to us carnivores. And I must say for Vegans they can cook a mean duck, and their fish don't even get me started. The meals were an experience from first course to last, starting with the Cornish game hen witch was creamy, and delicate. And the fish which was richly flavoured and served in a tomato based broth. I could go on but I'm told that the chef never serves the same dishes twice so going into detail seems like it would just be cruel. This was the first Elite yelp event that I attended. It was an intimate gathering of people. Not only was the atmosphere cosy, Marie, Daniel, yelp & JC's staff were super kind and accommodating. I'm a little bit in love with Urban Acorn after my first experience nomming on some delicious food at a recent Pop-Up they were a part of. It was a 3 course meal of epic delicious perportions. Course after course we were pleasantly delighted with a.) the beauty of the plating b.) the creativity of the food and c.) of course, the joy our taste buds were having! Chef Daniel Holloway is amazingly talented, and his partner Marie is wonderful. Meeting them we could instantly tell how passionate they are about Urban Acorn, the food, and their vision. I have been lucky to attend a number of Urban Acorn's amazing and delicious supper club events and can easily recommend them to anyone looking for something that will blow their socks off. Marie and Daniel hosted a fantastic party for 8 of us in their catering kitchen. Daniel worked away creating beautiful and incredibly tasty courses while Marie joined us for dinner and was basically the most engaging and fun-loving host in the world. This was a prix fixe dinner party where they customized the menu around our food issues (one vegetarian, allergies to dairy, peaches and balsamic). The ingredients were incredibly fresh and varied, we felt like we missed nothing. Also, did you know you can make vegan marshmallows out of chickpea water?!?! I can't recommend these two enough for any of your catering needs. Both their dishes and personalities sparkle!! read more

The food we had at our tasting was completely different than the food that was served at our wedding. At the tasting and throughout our interaction, we were told that the vegetables may be different as they use seasonal. What we got on our wedding day was a completely different cut of meat that had a large fat pad on the top, a completely different sauce, different seasoning and oh yes different vegetables. Ordering A and receiving B without knowing is bad business, even if it was delicious ...... which it wasn't. I actually didn't even want to walk around after dinner to talk to our guests because I felt so embarrassed for what people had to eat. Marie did offer to meet to talk about it post wedding, but we didn't go. I felt like there was no point, even if they gave back 100% of our money it would not undo my disappointment and anger. If these are the types of decisions Marie is comfortable making for such a big event. I worry what business decisions she would make for someone elses event. Good luck. read more

My mind just nearly exploded when I realized I had not yet reviewed the lovely people at Urban Acorn. They are consistently pumping out super supper clubs, of various delicious themes. If you or your guests have dietary requests (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, any sort of specificity really) the lovely people at Urban Acorn are incredibly accommodating. They do these specialized suppers all of the time, so they don't see it as an obstacle, they see it as a delicious challenge. I've personally planned a vegan supper club with them and worked with them at another larger event, and they're just so. Darn. Pleasant. One of the owners has Haitian roots, so if you're at all into that type of cuisine, you should ask them to do an island bend on your treats, you won't be disappointed. In conclusion, if you're vegan you should get engaged just to have them cater your wedding. read more

I like when the actual cooker of the food comes out and explains what I am eating. Popcorn sprouts exist! They based their dishes on ensuring vegetarians can eat it and slip in some succulent meats to cater to those who chose to. The combinations worked in some flavors that seemed unattainable. Loved the Cornbread with grits. What I would say is that I can give this chef almost any ingredient for example crickets and he can get a slam dunk in exotic flavor or a 3 point shot of a salad. I would love to go another pop-up event to sample. I can give them a Fiver. Unfortunately, now I have higher expectations which makes it tough on my upcoming reviews. read more

Urban Acorn has a special place in my heart and it all started by just walking in and enquiring about catering a bridal shower. The catering at the shower itself was stellar, taste and presentation was impeccable, everyone who attended beyond impressed. Marie will take care of everything you could possibly need before hand, from helping arrange a menu, to suggestions based on the style of your event. Chef Daniel will produce a meal that you will be talking about for weeks (or years in my case). Since then I have attended several of their vegan supper clubs and I have been amazed every single time. The food presented at these supper clubs are unlike any vegan food you've seen before. Chef Daniel uses these supper clubs to explore his interests and express his creativity, coming up with dishes that will blow your mind. Although the vegan monthly supper club is now done for the summer. I highly recommend to try out a dinner in the autumn when they start up again. While not cheap it is always a lovely experience and a great opportunity to try a vegan take on traditional cuisine. Keep an eye on their website for details. The 5 course dinners are themed and always different. I've been a few times now and enjoyed both the food and the experience as seating is picnic table style and encourages conversation between guests. read more

Their brand of "gluten free" is not suitable for celiacs! I ate here at one of their "Vegan / Gluten Free" Supper Clubs and became violently ill about an hour after finishing the meal. I have celiac disease and know what it feels like to be "glutened", and sadly, that's definitely the cause of my illness. Urban Acorn has denied all responsibility for the incident, ensuring me that the meal was 100% gluten free (which even the best restaurants won't claim if their kitchen isn't totally gluten free; Urban Acorn's is certainly not). Which I suppose means that they think cooking food that makes people immediately vomit is somehow better? Unless you'd like to find out, I recommend avoiding these guys all together. read more

These people are da bomb! This company is amazing - I've used them almost a dozen times for my office and also our wedding. They listen to your vision and create magic in the kitchen. They are always coming up with delicious and innovative dishes - but also destroy (in a good way) the staples. I would recommend them for small or large and anything in between. Marie and Daniel's Supper Club was SO GOOD. Not only was it vegan, but they were also able to accommodate my gluten free preference. EVERYTHING in this four course meal was mouth watering and delicious. I attended a pop-up event catered by Urban Acorn on April 1st. It was an absolutely delicious 3-course meal All the ingredients were fresh, and each course was a feast for the senses. The plating was beautiful to look at, and the flavours and textures were perfectly balanced. The chef made polenta, an ingredient I often don't enjoy, so delicious by serving it as a cake under a perfectly cooked maple-glazed Cornish hen. The appetizer composed of potato latke with a cucumber salad, and the dessert of strawberry and lavender shortcake were equally delicious. We booked Urban Acorn based solely on how great Marie and Daniel are as people. We trusted them implictly, knew we were getting a great deal and felt they were going to do an amazing job for us. Our tasting menu proved us right. They catered (and practically organized) our wedding for us this New Years Eve. Marie was so incredibly helpful and responsive, and we gave Daniel free reign on our opener, half of our entrees, and our dessert, since we were so in love with his food at the tasting. One guest posted on facebook that it was the best wedding entree he had ever had. Ringing endorsement, since everyone knows wedding food to be just minutely better than airplane food. I used Urban Acorn for the first time for my husband's 50th birthday party and we were very impressed with the service and the food! My husband is vegetarian and we were looking for a caterer that would have a large selection of vegetarian menu items and also catered to the carnivores and Urban Acorn did just that. The food was DELICIOUS! It was my first time working with a caterer where they would prepare many of the items on site, at our home so I didn't really know what to expect. I also wanted to ensure I had sufficient food for my guests and remain within budget at the same time. Marie was very patient and took the time to explain the process and the details. She addressed all my questions and concerns. Chef Daniel came to our home and prepared several items for the party. He was very professional, calm and prepared the food beautifully.
