Justin is an amazing and super motivational instructor. In his classes I feel like I can accomplish anything! Joel's classes are insanely energetic and difficult - he has great scrappy tips on how to win a fight. Walter's classes are more technically broken down to explain things and make sure you're doing it all right. Thats not to say he won't kick your ass - his classes are also difficult and he makes you WORK. Spike's classes are difficult but fun - some days he's in a burpee mood, other days he's more lax. His music is great and he fixes your mistakes on the bag! Id say his classes are my go-to on a daily basis. read more

The front desk staff are kind and helpful. Shoutout to Kara who takes pride in her gym! I see her taking positive upgrades in the facility. This review may just give you the most well-rounded perspective of this business... It involves themes of sexism, xenophobia, racism, harassment, & nepotism. I was a member of this gym for 2+ years, built a community of some of the best friends I've had to date, and began my fitness journey effectively. I was a true regular. My experience, however, was overshadowed by serious safety & upper management issues. For context, I am one of the individuals directly impacted by this staff member's past misconduct. The inappropriate messages, boundary violations, & out-of-pocket comments were directed at me. The front desk/GM, Dan, who previously called and texted me on my personal # in the middle of the night with inappropriate, racist, xenophobic, sexist, and suggestive messages (along with comments that crossed every boundary) was terminated upon my report approximately 1.5 years ago. I have kept records of these interactions & emails with Urban Boxing staff. Rumors indicate he had been fired & rehired at other locations before, reportedly due to familial ties. While my experience involved inappropriate messages & comments, several women also experienced physical boundary issues: lingering touches, overly long handholding for fist bumps, unnecessary closeness, & behavior that made them uncomfortable. This wasn't an isolated incident; it was a pattern. Ownership quietly rehired him without notifying members who had reported concerns, including me & other women. Several women privately shared he lingered too close or acted pushy in ways that made them uncomfortable. None of this was a secret internally. Newer members may think he's helpful or friendly at first glance... SALES staff are trained to present that way. Early interactions don't erase long-standing patterns. Reviews praising him are often from people who haven't deeply interacted with the long-standing community. Longevity at a gym gives insight that a trial period never will. Despite multiple reports, management minimized concerns with literal copy & pasted responses & offered no real plan to protect members. What stands out is how leadership justified rehiring him. Quotes from the owner: 1- "My goal in bringing him back is to allow Dan to prove that he can do things the right way, work, and be able to provide for his children." **This places the needs of an employee with a history of misconduct above member safety. 2- "More than a year passed that I did not talk to Dan, but I did understand that he had gotten sober, is in counseling, and has taken responsibility for what happened..." **"I did understand" is not verification or real vetting. It is an assumption rather than a confirmed behavioral change. Management framed his return as evidence of improvement, but publicly available information contradicts that narrative... Even after multiple reports, they centered his "redemption story" over member well-being. Women & men who expressed discomfort were told that as long as he's "trying," safety concerns were secondary. Urban Boxing has strong workouts and good fundamentals. It is a good gym for focusing on fitness and beginning boxing/mixed martial arts, but it is not a "finisher" gym and struggles with advanced technical teaching. Leadership's decisions regarding staff conduct, transparency, & member protection made it unsafe & uncomfortable for me & others. I also noticed a broader culture issue. Some coaches favored certain young, minimally clothed female members... giving extra attention or openly flirting. This reinforced an environment where women felt watched rather than supported. Men noticed it too. Members talk within the community. Ultimately, this isn't just about one staff member. It's about leadership choosing convenience & loyalty over accountability, safety, & transparency. It's about numbers, not people. Until management shows they prioritize member safety over staff employment, I cannot recommend Arlington locations or the franchise. read more

I was a member of this gym for 2.5 years and would regularly attend classes, usually several times a week. However, 2 weeks ago I made the tough choice to stop going due to a disappointing decision made by management. About a year ago, a front desk employee stole a woman's contact information from their online system and harassed her with inappropriate texts. He was rightfully fired, but management suddenly brought him back and placed him at the same front desk job at Urban Boxing Arlington a few weeks ago. Management's ignorance and incompetence to place this man back in the same position he once abused is a disgrace. They showed that they have complete disregard for the woman who was still attending the gym (who has since left), and proved to women that they don't take harassment seriously. They don't prioritize their members and it's clear to see where their priorities lie. Go to this gym at your own risk. read more

This was a gym that I really enjoyed and made some of my closest friends. I built a strong community and for that I will be grateful to Urban Boxing. However, this has changed as the management seems to think that member (particularly women) safety isn't a priority anymore. My best friend was sent inappropriate texts by one of the front desk salesman. He pulled her number from the system (which is illegal) and started texting her at night messages that are considered as harassment and racist. This "incident" happened last year in June and fortunately, at the time, management handled the incident appropriately. They fired him and said this will never happen again. Nonetheless, this past August management quietly hired him back again without letting anyone know. Apparently, they put him on a 1 month trial basis at Bethesda and then deemed that he has changed so they put him back at Arlington where the incident originated with my friend. They didn't let anyone know and fortunately, another friend saw him before my best friend did to let her know not to come in. My best friend and other friends (including myself although I never received a response) wrote emails saying that this was unacceptable and that we did not feel safe or comfortable with him. For example, many of the women experienced inappropriate contact such as lingering touches and hugs from Dan. How did Urban Boxing management respond? They completely ignored the women safety complaints and emphasized that he changed and that he's now sober although if you look up public records it doesn't necessarily show that. They did mention that they were going to do training, which I guess means they weren't doing it before. They also said that if we came in and did not want to interact with him, we can instead work with someone else at the front desk. However, this does not mitigate the fact that we will still have to see him and that he sees us, in which both parties will know the reason as to why we do not want to interact with him. I'm not really sure how that solves the situation. In short, I no longer feel safe at this gym, which is why I canceled my membership. I cannot recommend this gym, although I really do like the coaches. I hope management learns from this as from a safety and liability perspective, this is deeply concerning and unacceptable. ** For full transparency on reviews if you're thinking of joining this gym, I would like to add that there are a lot of 5 star reviews because if we write a review we will get one free private session** Also I would like to note that it seems like the company is getting people they know to write good reviews so that it overshadows our concerns. I went here for about a year and loved it, but there was really only one class time that worked for me every day during the week because of my work schedule. The class started out great, but over time I felt like I was getting less of a workout. The teacher also started incorporating mixed martial arts in what should have only been a boxing class. Over the months the class, which was about a dozen guys and gals when I first joined, got smaller until there were only about 2-3 females left. We also never started on time so I had to leave before it was finished to get to work on time. They have some great classes that offer good cardio workouts, but not all the classes are the same. I left because it was too expensive to not get a fantastic workout every single time. read more

Great workout and a positive atmosphere! The coaches get you pumped and are engaging during the class, making these hour-long workouts more enjoyable. They teach you proper technique and form to maximize your workout and avoid injury. Each coach brings their own perspective and unique teaching to their class, making each experience different even if you are boxing every time! This gym is relatively new; the bathroom, mats, and the general facility is super clean and well kept! There are a variety of classes you can choose from, including boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, may thai, and yoga. There's also a small section to the side with 2 treadmills. The membership fee is steep though, it's listed as $169 for a month to month agreement, with cancellation any time; you have to pay for the first and last month up front. I've worked out at this gym for a few days. Unfortunately, I could not continue my membership due to reasons completely unrelated to the gym, but it was great while it lasted. This gym has a great training staff of experienced trainers and they're all very easy to get along with, especially the owner, Dan. These instructors will coach you on efficient boxing and kickboxing movements while you get in a kickass workout. I love it here, especially weekdays at noon! I've never been a cardio bunny, though getting through it here has become infinitely easier. Instead of being a mindless hamster, I get to focus on technique and form. I get to actually learn something AND leave beet red/dripping sweat every time. Bonus points for being a mental outlet. Never felt more welcome dropping in somewhere. I stopped by a couple of weeks ago while I was on a work trip. Everyone I met, at both this location and the DC location, was so kind and welcoming. Mike Easton is a gem and a reason to visit alone! The classes pushed me, and I learned some new skills I can take back to my home gym in Houston. I have been going to Urban Boxing for about 8 months and have loved every minute of it. The classes are challenging and fun. I have mostly taken Antoine, Jeff and Loic's classes. They know how to motivate you and direct you. I specially appreciate the focus on technique and that they push you to be better. I take yoga classes with Saba on the weekends too. Its an excellent way to stretch deeply and work on problem areas. I highly recommend Urban Boxing! Its a great addition to the community. read more

This place is great. The workout is amazing - good cardio and muscle work. The coaches are all very nice and competent. I usually take Nate's class at noon - he is quite talented and focuses on technique, which I enjoy. They keep everything clean and neat. The front desk staff is extremely polite and professional. My only minor complaint is that their water machine produces warm water - would be nice to have some cold water to drink during the intense workout :-). I hope they'll fix it at some point. I would highly recommend that you try this workout. I went to the free class and it was amazing. Everyone who works here is professional and friendly. It's a huge place and very clean and well-organized. Boxing (all levels) was probably the best workout I've ever had. Great cardio and muscle work - I was sore for days after. Not just my arms - everywhere. It was great. Unfortunately because of injuries it's not something I can personally do 3x a week or more, but if you can, you should!! Joined a few months ago and has only been a positive experience for me. Great trainers and a flexible schedule to work off of (especially during the week when I work 9-5). The training has not only improved my boxing skills but has also helped me gain muscle and mass. I've seen more than one person's share of bad boxing gyms. Places where trainers constantly hit on memebers...some overcrowd the space to the point most bags are being shared by 3 people. Urban Boxing definitely isn't either. The members, trainers, and staff are all super friendly. The gym is always clean...well as clean as a boxing gym can be in while people are getting in a serious workout. To be honest if I hadn't have moved, I'd still be a member. This one is a bit cleaner and way less crowded than the Georgetown location. I also love how close this gym is to the metro - very convenient! Urban Boxing has great classes with a huge variety. Took a class last night, half because the Managers running the place were so inviting and accommodating, half because the gym looked legit. Got in, they wrapped my hands up and sent me to the class. Antoine was good at keeping class high pace for a workout but taught how to improve technique in the meanwhile. Their schedule is pretty good too, bunch of classes after work every day. Urban Boxing Arlington is such a great gym! I'd never done any boxing before my husband and I tried their free first class about a month ago and I was hooked immediately. It is a hard workout, to be sure, but the hour flies by. I feel stronger every class and going there has quickly become my favorite days of the week. Everyone is warm and welcoming. Louis up front is fantastic and sooo friendly. The variety of instructors is great--each one is different and they all mix things up, so you learn and get something new each class. I'm middle aged and haven't been truly fit in several years, but Urban Boxing has been a really fun way to work on it. I absolutely love Loic and Dusty's classes. The way Loic structures the class has helped me get more comfortable with the combinations and improve my coordination. And Dusty's class gives me more freedom to practice what I've learned and work on putting arms and legs and different moves together. Jeff is amazing and fun--great energy. The kickboxing class is a fun, nonstop workout. Jeff has a strong following of really nice people who are also friendly and helpful to new folks. Don't be intimidated (nobody can be more awkward than I was at my first class!) and all the instructors are great about giving the new people special attention and helping you get better. The facility is very clean and nice and parking has been a breeze. I'm looking forward to taking other classes. They have a lot of options on the schedule, from early morning into the evening and on weekends. Overall, an awesome place. I couldn't be happier. Less crowded compared to DC location and all staffs are very kind. I usually go Arlington gym MWF evening. All nice coaches! Antoine helps you to keep practicing basic drill and techniques. My endurance has been improved thanks to his encouragement. He is observant and helps you to push yourself. Loic teaches various techniques and helps you to improve foot works. Most techniques and positions, he explains and shows drill repeatedly. Easy to follow. Like his fast pace class. Dusty's class is usually started with shuttle boxing in open area. As bag area is less spacious than DC location, I like start practicing shuttle boxing at open area. He gives you one on one practice and free style boxing sessions. Like he allows regular water break. read more

What do you look for in a new gym? Lower prices? check. Friendly atmosphere? check. Wide selection? check. If you're looking for a new place to train in Northern Virginia, or even if you're looking to start from scratch, Urban Boxing Arlington is the place to do it. Fair warning, you may feel like the trainers are trying to kill you but I swear it's for your own good! I'm certainly not the most physically fit specimen to walk through those hallowed doors (as evidenced by all the greasy restaurants and bars I review), but no one makes me feel bad for not being able to lift quite so much or run quite so fast as everyone else. Whether it's the other people in the class or the trainers themselves, I don't think I've ever experienced such a feeling of community as I do here. They'll push you, but they're not going to kill you. They will however take special care with every single person in the class to make sure everyone learns proper form knows what they're doing. No one gets left behind here. But don't let their friendliness fool you; try jumping in to one of the advanced classes (assuming you know what you're doing) and you'll see a whole new side that'll make you want to: A) Collapse. B) Cry (though that could just be me). C) Push yourself past where you thought possible. Bottom line, it's going to be real easy going to bed that night, and real tough getting out of bed the next day. read more

I really don't have anything negative to say about this place. It's clean, welcoming, the coaches are great, and I always leave feeling exhausted but wanting to come back later in the day. I won't say it's cheap, but it's on par with what I've seen in other group fitness formats in terms of pricing, and I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. The class times are convenient and there is also a good variety of classes offered, more than I would've expected for a boxing gym. I found a new workout that I love. I can't say enough about this place. After trying a few places around town, I knew after my first free class that this place was it and I signed up and prepaid for a year! This is the hardest workout I've done. I sweat buckets and have been even averaging 1000 calories for an hour workout according to my Apple Watch. And I'm not fit but I know with these workouts, I'm going to see a difference!! And punching is a great way for me to relieve stress. All the coaches are great - they really pay attention to you so you can't slack off but you also get one on one pointers. I've only taken boxing and kickboxing but they also offer muy Thai and jui jitsu and yoga. And they have kids boxing daily so I'm going to have to take my son to a class. Everyone is incredibly friendly and supportive. There is no gym intimidation for being a newbie to the world of boxing. And there are people of all levels. You can box at your pace and level. I really love this gym and I've been to numerous boxing/kickboxing classes (both fitness and martial arts based) and this has been one of the best !! Great instructors,great environment and I always get a great workout and feel less stressed than when I first come in. I also love that they have afternoon classes as my clients take up my mornings and evenings! While this location has only been open a couple of weeks, I have taken boxing classes with Antoine Douglas, Nathan Boisvert and Loic - all great. Of course, Urban Boxing Arlington also offers BJJ, Muay Thai, kickboxing and yoga. If you are looking for a fun workout, learning a new skill, guidance and coaching from true professionals (check out the trainer bios on the web sites) or just to challenge yourself, this is the place. You will be met by a friendly staff, possibly the owner, work with great coaches - all in this new location with new equipment and mats. Unlike some gyms, this is clean, the staff cleans it regularly, and the boxing shoes only or no shoes on the mats policy shows that management wants to maintain high standards.
