They are usually constructed within 1-2 city street parking spaces. Popular in other urban areas, Boston is slowly rolling them out here. The parklet is actually at the intersection of Cohasset & Corinth right in the Village. The install seems to be a big success. It's rare to see it empty when walking by - there is almost always someone or a small group hanging out there. Fornax Bakery takes good care of it and someone always keeps the doggie water bowl topped up.

Toward the North End, there's a carousel and often there is at least one food truck - usually a sweet treat. Luke's lobster is nearby the carousel too. During the summer, they have an artisan market and even some food trucks. There aren't any bathrooms but right across the street - Atlantic, there are a few options--the Marriott at Long wharf, Boston Harbor Hotel, and the Intercontinental.

That looks like doorknocker earrings, but it's an actual swing. It took me back to my preteen/teen years in the 90s. The "green space" itself is covered with lush grass, beautiful flowers, and trees. There are quite a few benches for you to sit and rest, enjoy a snack or lunch. I followed the Greenway all the way down to Fanueil Hall, where there was a farmer's market and a carousel. Nice way to spend an afternoon.

This is another not so famous memorial that Boston has, but should be. It is right off the Freedom…read moreTrail and is a great piece of history. The statues are of three starving figures and three healthy walking figures. This represents the help that Boston sent to the Irish during the famine years and how they accepted them to come live here rather than starving. I really did not know anything at all about this and how much Boston helped during this time. I enjoyed seeing this statues and learning more about history with this surprising memorial right downtown.

This beach is the only one we found where you could simply drive up, park, and get in the water without spending a dime. The swimming area is marked off by safety ropes. There is at least one lifeguard on duty until 5. You're technically swimming in the Peconic River just before it empties into Gardiners Bay. The view is of Shelter Island, and it's quite charming.

For children's books lovers, this is THE place to visit as it is the home of the duck family in " Make Way for Ducklings" - a classic 1941 children's picture book by Robert McCloskey about the Mallard Duck family's search for a home in Boston's Public Garden. The beautiful charcoal illustrations won the Caldecott Medal. In the garden there is a statue of Mrs. Mallard as she raises her eight ducklings (Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack)!

On the opposite end of the garden is Cheers - the bar made famous by an old show. They have ducks swimming in the lake where you can also be on a paddle boat shaped like a duck. At night, there's some lighting but the trees kind of mask the light. But it's nice to watch the reflection of the buildings on the water. I went here in the summer. There's a lot of bugs! Some clung on to my clothes and I brought them to my hotel. Ugh!

The perfect place to leave grandma or Grandpa while you take your tiny tot over to the play structure. Have older kids? There's a basketball court for them to run around. Have a dog? There's an area walking Fido. Want to sit in chat or nibble? There's an area for that. There's literally something for everyone. Initially wasn't too fond of the play area because it wasn't enclosed (it's an open-concept Park), however when you look at the bigger picture of the design you begin to appreciate it.
