Housed in a cute Victorian small-town cottage beside the Leslieville Pumps gas station/grub joint, the store is like a teleporter to that other side of Queen Street, that I wonder if I am even in my own neighbourhood anymore whenever I step inside. I guess it's a sign of the times in the east end, as much as it is an interesting addition to the Leslieville strip. I was forwarded a meme whilst contemplating this nonsense (because apparently no one else has yet, bloody hell), and on it, a satirical list of things purported to be signs your 'hood is gentrifying, including an "inexplicable general store." Inexplicable. General. Store. I guess that best explains Good Neighbour. True to form, the place is filled with all sorts of eclectic and stylish stuff of all random categories scattered everywhere, like greeting cards, clothes and outerwear, mugs, footwear, backpacks, cosmetics, stationery. It's sort of like a Drake General Store (or maybe even an Urban Outfitters), but with more emphasis on fashion and lifestyle goods... and less on random cheeky hipster gag gift kitsch. There's a small kids section tucked in the back by the fitting room stalls, with an assortment of dresses, toys, puzzles, and humourous books. The men's stuff upstairs kind of scares me with the quantity of soaps and toiletries for the discerning well-groomed hip man. The place itself is a marriage of curated hip(ster) tastes (oh wait, they even have a table of selected Drake General Store crap for sale), and Club Monaco chic. Thankfully like a good neighbour the folks here don't stink so much of that douchey we're-too-cool-for-thou attitude that many hipster businesses are known for--they instead stink of individual cheerful Queen West-esque personality and a level of helpfulness not normally seen in a more corporate fashion boutique. Pricey? Kinda expected that. What is not expected are the sale offers that do pop up time and time again. My sister claims she bought a pair of jeans here for less than what Hudson's Bay was charging for the same brand. But I usually end up with socks, or scarves, or cards. I've been in a few times since it's opened and I've never been disappointed. I happened by here today with one of my friends so we could check out the sales. I have to say, I was even more impressed than usual. Service is always great, but even with a store crowded with throngs of bargain hunters, we both received excellent service. The salespeople were extremely helpful despite the crowd. Whenever a store has a sale on, I always feel like I'm going to end up picking through the remnant pieces of clothing that no one else wants, however, today, that was not the case...the sale prices were amazing and the selection was ridiculous. We had a great time shopping and literally had to stop ourselves from buying more than we did. Overall, they carry a great selection of office attire, and great weekend attire as well. Will definitely be going back...there's a reason this place is one of my favourite shopping spots.

I thought I'd give it a shot and see if they'd be nice enough to accommodate me. The manager I spoke to certainly didn't look too pleased that I was exchanging an item instead of purchasing something, however, she made an exception and allowed me to exchange the shirt for the current selling price ($25 dollars less than original value). I quickly picked out something and paid $8 more. Another sales person helped me at the cashier who was friendlier than the Manager. She wrapped the new shirt up nicely and apologized they couldn't do something more. Overall, a pleasant experience at Ann Taylor where you'll receive A-OK service!

They also expect their workers to do an unfair amount of work for minimum wage. Theft and prevention, store cleanliness, PERFECT customer service, up selling, and adapting to the many technical issues they face year round is just a small glimpse of what is expected from a part-time worker. The only good things that came out of my entire year and five months that I worked there was the few friends I managed to make (which was nearly impossible due to the high turnover rate) the staff couldn't brainwash who were actually pretty solid, and a free green water bottle they gave me as a prize during Christmas time. (Their Christmas bonuses are convoluted and are only accessible to you if you are one of the few full timers they've had on staff for years or they decide they like you enough to give you enough hours to easily achieve this goal). Save yourself the trouble and work anywhere else. And if you care about the morality of where you spend your money? Do not shop here. The place is also extremely dusty and their clothes aren't nice enough for how much they charge customers (nearly everything that has any amount of cotton in it shrinks two sizes).This is by far the worst location in this area. Some of the stuff I tried fit well and I kind of like the color scheme and cut they offer. Prices were decent and the setup is nice and open. Tiger of Sweden fits Ossington nicely as the location and brand both lean towards the young, urban, and trendy. You do need to bring your gold card here though... it does have really nice textures and quality but you pay for it. Right now in December, they have some really great sales. Stepping in the large serene and modern space, I noticed more than half the rack had 30 to 40% off. I was impressed as it wasn't just a token rack in the back on sale. The clean lines and fit of the clothes leans torwards the European slim build and I personally like that. Tiger of Sweden did originally start in menswear but their woman's wear is really nice as well. Think easy pieces that transition from Bay St office to evening in a nice upscale restaurant. The service here is friendly and attentive ... though they do know that it is annoying to hover. They don't do that thankfully. They offer insights on sizing as it is in European sizing. It's not the usual American brand sizing. It was easy to try items on and even though I tried on a few coats among the store, I never once felt the heavy pressure of a sales tactic. Go outside and then upstairs is where the clothing is. Located on 2 levels it of course has the feel of Anthropologie and similar pricing. This week they have 30% off their sale items.
