This was my first time shopping at this Urban Outfitters location. While browsing, one associate at the front informed me that an item I was interested in qualified for an additional 40% off. However, when I went to check out, the associate who rang me up was dismissive and insisted the item was priced as marked, despite what I had just been told. Thankfully, I was able to find the original associate who helped me, and she confirmed the additional discount, allowing me to purchase the item at the correct price. I really appreciated her assistance and professionalism. That said, the inconsistency and attitude at checkout made the experience uncomfortable. I hope this location works on clearer communication between staff and more courteous customer service, especially for first-time customers read more

The store itself is spacious and has a selection. The workers there are not friendly. No welcome and judged us for sure not one person asked us if we needed help. But seem to treat others that are not brown a certain way i witnessed that 2 times and I guarantee you it's because I am brown they judged me and my two teenagers mind you one kept following us while we were shopping upstairs. And not to mention it was not a diverse staff. Nice huge store located in downtown Walnut Creek. Mixed Gender apparel. There's a bunch of cute clothes that you may not see in other stores. I took home a sweatshirt that I was looking for in other stores and found it here! The staff were not very friendly so we didn't stay very long. I used to look forward to shopping here (okay, when I say shop here, I mean head directly up the stairs to the sale section so as not to torture myself looking at $90 tank tops) for years. I feel like every time I come here in the last few trips, however, I am left disappointed. The sale section used to actually have some good finds, but now they seem to only put the most gaudy, tacky items out there. Either that, or the gems definitely won't be your size, and they definitely won't have any more in the back. Okay, so that's not really the fault of the employee. What is the fault of the employee is the aloof service. I worked retail for a long time so I am sensitive and empathetic with retail workers, but they could step it up. I was waiting in front of the dressing room to have a room unlocked. An employee was about ten feet away folding some clothes. I stood there for a few long minutes, and she never looked up or acknowledged me. Then the phone inside the dressing room rang, and she breezed right past me without saying a word. She put the phone on hold and said something over her walkie-talkie to another employee, then waited. And I waited. For some sort of acknowledgement. I did the cheesy "clear the throat" move. Only then did she turn around and say "Oh sorry, one minute." She gets back on the phone and another employee comes in to grab a box of clothes, looks me in the face, and walks away. Um, ok, I'm happy to let myself into the dressing room if no one wants to take two seconds to unlock it for me. Also, the dressing room was not full and the store wasn't crowded... Finally, the girl lets me in. The dressing room is disgusting. That floor hasn't seen a vacuum in months. It was littered with open safety pins and a band-aid! I got out of there pretty quick. This location is smaller than the other ones but this review is for customer service. The men's section is small but HENRY put more than 1 outfit together for my birthday month! Henry was great with listening to what I was looking for and the look I was trying to accomplish for the place I was going to, asking my size in tops and bottoms, giving me options, and asking my thoughts on what he was choosing. I ended up being extremely happy with everything he picked out that I spent more than I initially thought I was going to spend! It was so hard to eliminate items! I am not the demographic but I am so disgusted with everything about this place but I will focus on 2 aspects that are the most annoying: #1. disposable, overpriced clothing, and #2. effectively no return policy, which wouldn't really matter, except for-see #1. They sell a plastic purse for $35 and when the strap breaks, no customer service, and the only recourse is taking it to be repaired to keep using it and keep it out of the landfill. Besides being overpriced for just decent quality clothin, the store is pretty friendly overall, things are clean, and products are quite nice. I was shopping here with my boyfriend today around 2:15pm, and my boyfriend ended up buying a shirt. We paid, and as we were about to past the door, the sensors go off. I took a step back and realized it was my purse. So we walked back towards into the store pulled out the shirt to see if there was a sensor. The LP guy (about 6'0 tall, Caucasian, had a hat on) came over and told me there wouldn't be a sensor on there and was already staring at my open purse, and asked if we came from some store (he repeated it 3 times, I still have no clue what he was talking about, and it was so irrelevant). I told him no, we just came from the parking garage. I willingly offered to show him the inside of my bag, pulling out all my items. I told him it could be my bag because it's fake, maybe because of the metal? He was mumbling something about it's not the metal. I still have no clue what the hell he was looking for. I told him I was uncomfortable as the search went on. He kept saying he didn't want to go through my bag, as we were just confused in what he was specifically looking for as my bag was almost cleared out for him to see. I told him this situation was pissing me off, as it came down to him not finding anything or whatever sensor? he was looking for. He said in the end, "well, looks like you're good there's nothing there", head down and doesn't say sorry or anything or thanked us for showing the bag, as no customer has to. It was humiliating, as it was in front of the store in front of everyone. I don't mind showing staff my bag as it does happen and they are doing their jobs, and I have nothing to hide, but please have some decent customer service. Would have been nice if he had asked in the beginning instead of staring at it like a treasure chest. And had some decent social skills. A similar experience happened to me at the U.O. SF Powell location as well last year. I hope the security team gets better training, maybe he hasn't been there long? I don't know. It was still quite a humiliating experience. I really like the outside of this store. Even though it has a small store front, there are 3 different tiers once inside. There seemed to be a good amount of merchandise spread about, but quantities for certain items like types of beanies & scarves were scarce (probably due to the holiday shopping?). The floor seemed to be neat and organized w/ the styles they were originally placed w/ - not much was out place. The employee that checked me out at the register was also nice & made easy conversation with which made the payment process more personable/pleasant than just the usual spiel, "Did you find everything okay?", "Your total will be...", or "Have a nice day." I didn't get the chance to walk into the Free People boutique right next door (which I think is really convenient since I'm a big FP buyer). read more

Recently I've been coming in a lot more and enjoying my experience a lot more, instead of avoiding it as much as I possibly could just to avoid dealing with their rude employees like I was doing before. The overall layout and cleanliness is still great. Wish their jewelry section was bigger but it's not too much of a hassle to buy online. Also, I'm not sure of his name but he is always at the register when I come in - always wears a hat, I believe he has his septum pierced, bearded, super tall - I wish I knew his name! So, I think I've finally reached that point in my life, where I officially am too old for Urban Outfitters clothes. However, I can't let that detract from the appealing layout, service and plethora of cute things to look at, at this particular location. I love the grand staircase in the center of the store and come to think of it I can still partake in their shoes, some of their accessories and for sure their housewares. It's fun to browse and as far other Urban Outfitters locations (and I've been to a bunch in NY, Boston, LA. San Francisco and San Diego) it's extremely well organized and clean. You can easily go through their sale racks without stepping on discarded clothing and they seem to keep up with it, even during busy weekends. Check out their sales, when once in a while they will offer an additional 50% off. All around, I dig this location The Yelp 100 Challenge! read more

I guess it's a love and hate thang with Urban Outfitters... I love the atmosphere and it's always cool to look at all the neat stuff and trends but I never buy anything there. Stuff over there is overpriced! It's like going to a museum or something I guess! I just look at the stuff, say its "cool" and hope it goes on clearance! I rummage through it and 2 our of 10 times I find a really good useful book (like how to "screen print" or Grafitti Related books) that are 50-75% off. I'm so used to the UO on Bancroft in Berkeley that I was blown away by this store. The sweeping staircase is awesome. Clothing wise, UO has never been my style - I have boobs and I'm not a size 0, but this store had a great assortment of shoes. While BF was hiding in the dressing room, a mom and daughter shopping pair helped me decide on a pair of awesome new heels. Do love browsing through their hardlines though ... the books, the toys and the home decor accessories are well merchandised. read more

What a pleasantly surprising excellent customer service experience! I used to go to UO in Berkeley and used to stop in the UO Walnut Creek store as well. The store was always fun to browse, try on cool clothes, and pick up some fun knick knacks or other quirky items. I always preferred the Walnut Creek location to the Berkeley location because the customer service was nicer. Not anything extra, until now. Now, each time I've called in to ask a question about a product, the associate on the line actually does a product check in store and on their website! They're friendly and sound like they're actually *glad* that you want to shop there! And I do : ) They're happy, pleasant, and welcoming -- which is great if you'd like to enjoy your shopping experience. I really like their selection of hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, jogger pants, dresses, jackets, bags, and makeup. They sell brands such as BDG, EC, Kimchi Blue, Project Social, Alice & UO, Columbia, JanSport, Out From Under, and various other brands. I don't care much for the Mouchette brand, as those t-shirts tend to be paper thin. If this type of customer service, combined with good products, keeps up, then I'll keep on shopping here : ) read more

The worst customer service ever. The people working were so rude and didn't know how to process my online order. Curbside pick up says it is available but it's not at all. I asked if I had to be there while they figure out what they are doing since I already paid for it and had it in my hands and I'm assuming the manager on duty said "yes you absolutely do" in a very rude response. I never liked Urban Outfitters until this past year when my friend got me into it while I was still living in San Diego. The clothing here is not really my style but I do love their accessories and other random shit that they sell LOL Their staff is friendly and personable. I love how they have stuff for instax Fuji camera! This location isn't as well stocked as other places but they'll have the basics. I also love their perfume that they sell here for cheap! It's only $18 for their brand of perfume! It smells so good too! Their candles are also great! I haven't checked at this location but usually UO sells vinyl records. I'm not the hugest fan of shopping for clothes. My strategy is usually to take one loop around a store and decide within five minutes or less whether anything catches my eye or not. Rarely does much catch my eye. But, then, maybe my problem is that I often shop for clothes where I live in Marin? Walking in to this Urban Outfitters, I was bombarded with the usual heavy-base-crappy-club-music (visualize the noise..."UN-CHA, UN-CHA, UN-CHA") that I normally expect out of Abercrombie and Fitch. Fine. One loop around. As usual, the guys section is further away. But hey, they sure had a nice staircase to climb...worthy enough to say "cool" and click a picture from my camera. And, what do you know? They passed the five minute test and I actually found TWO shirts I liked in that amount of time. You definitely have to pick around fast to find that in five minutes, but mission accomplished. Obviously you are not paying the Macy's clearance price of $20 for 2 shirts, but I am willing to spend $40 for 2 if they look nice, feel comfortable and last a long time. Of course, I don't know how long the shirts will last...as I have worn this one for about as long as it took me to write this review. Eh, I'm happy for now. Good enough. read more

I'm torn. I hate Urban Outfitters. I like Urban Outfitters. What's a girl to do? Well I strolled into this new Urban store on Sunday. I just don't like the concept of Urban Outfitters. It's the same sweatshop-made crap as other stores, but UO decides to mark up the prices higher than necessary just because it's super trendy stuff. Sorry, super urban stuff. But the catch is that I do like (some of) it. It's rare though that I will buy something here that is not in the sale section (and it's actually rare that I buy anything here because the stuff in the sale section is weird stuff no one else looked good in it either). Anyway, this time I bought two things and neither was on sale. OK, so it was a pair of gloves and basically an undershirt, so yeah, they weren't super pricey. But they WERE super urban. I think. Anyway, I liked the fitting rooms here better than the ones on Powell St. in SF -- those are cramped and only have one tiny little hook to hang stuff on. These are retro-y fancy-wannabe dressing rooms that have, like, three hooks to hang stuff! Impressive. The front of the store was oddly attractive, as well. Anyway, it's smaller than other Urban stores, but it does the trick. Staff were either fairly nice or fairly numb. read more

I think everyone loves Urban Outfitters. I know because I usually see people wearing the same jeans or styled shoes I've purchased from them around here. I think this is the best preferred location. It has an upstairs and downstairs. I think the men sections is pretty small as in compared to the Berkeley one, but who am I to complain? The regular accessories and gag books will never lose it's touch. If you are of the opposite gender a woman or wanting to be a woman this location is pretty ideal, I swear the sale section was meant for you to lose your mind. I haven't returned something I need to return yet, so I can't say give a testimonial about that, but my overall experience there was better than any other Urban Outfitter I've been to. I went in knowing what I wanted to get. I like the layout of the entire place. It can get a bit confusing with some women's stuff on the bottom, some on the 2nd level, and some on the 3rd, but it's not something you can't get used to. Just go to every level and shop til you drop! It's a good amount of space and therefore has a good selection of standard and on sale clothes, although their sale sections are pretty small. That holds true for any Urban Outfitter though. What made this store exceptional was the service. Granted no one asked me if I needed help right off the bat, but everyone I spoke to was courteous, friendly, and very helpful. One helped me find an item, one helped me order an item from their website through their C.S. team on the phone, and one gave me an opinion about which sweater to get for a gift. And every single time I talked to someone? All smiles. And I mean ALL smiles. Maybe it was because of the holiday season, but the people I was in touch with were not only friendly and informative but they made the experience a great one! I'm in love with Broadway Plaza and all its outlying stores because UO started the night off great. Tip: If they don't have the item you want in the store, they can order the item for you over the phone and it'll be free shipping! They also price match, although finding the exact product somewhere else may be difficult since their inventory is pretty unique. Will be back! read more

I go to this Urban Outfitters quite often to scope out their sale section. I've found a couple pairs of dope shoes on sale here. That's the only reason they get more than 1 star. The other night my partner was shopping while I stood around after purchasing a gift, and there was no kind of customer service at all. No one working the fitting rooms, which were locked. I couldn't tell who was an employee or who was a shopper. But what else should I expect. I highly doubt UO employees are hired based on their customer service skills. They hire people who can pull off the "look" of the brand, which to me is "overpriced clothes that look like they came from a second hand store". Yeah, I said it. I think that is part of the hiring process at UO. Are you cute, trendy, AND passive aggressive? Perfect! Anyways, parking can be a bitch too. The sale rack is always overrun with teenyboppers, and it's taken me an average of about 10min (out of 4 visits) to hail some dude over to open the dressing room for me. I LOVE this urban outfitters. The design is cuter than other urban stores, with a large staircase in the middle (good to take insta pics on)! Also, the cashier was super sweet and we had an entire conversation! That doesn't happen everyday. The only downside is that the sale section (located upstairs, kind of tucked away) is not as big as other stores in the franchise. Otherwise, great store to shop at overall! read more
