This antique shop has some interesting stuff, but it seems to suffer from split personality. First…read moreimpressions upon entering the shop are that it's a bit of a junk palace - the most prominently displayed items are cassette tapes from the 70s and 80s and sports memorabilia. Not being a sports fan and long having since discarded my tape deck (though I do still think fondly of my first, bright yellow Walkman), I was about to walk out when I noticed an umbilically connected second half to the store. This half is filled with some lovely antique furniture. A big china cabinet displayed figurines and crystal, and there were some suitably ornate chests, side tables, chairs, and dining sets. I'm noticing, in my tour of New West's antique alley, that good vintage sofas are hard to come by. However, china sets and figurines, such as those fake-flower things my grandma likes, are all over the place. While this store doesn't have a huge selection of old furniture, it does have some interesting pieces, and finer furniture than some other shops in the area. If your taste is more traditional, you might like this store.

What a horrible loss for the community. Front Street is one of New Westminster's most charming heritage locations and the fire raged through 2 buildings destroying several vibrant businesses. So good to see Amanda and Gary back in business at their new location. They carry an eclectic assortment of sports memorabilia, mid century furniture and Victorian antiques. Pricing is very reasonable.

Twelfth Street in New West is not usually on my radar for walking and window shopping, but it's got…read moresome pretty cool stuff if you care to look. Such as a bright orange Eames reproduction chair - hey, what is this place? It's the Banana Lab, a hidden treasure trove of mid-century modern furniture and little design-y things. Hidden in plain sight, really, as it's just across the street from a Yelper fave, Big Star Sandwich. Frankly, I'm heartened there's now another MCM-focused vintage store in town! Packed into the Lab's small space is a number of nifty teak sideboards, record cabinets, chairs and other Danish modern furnishings and housewares for my soon-to-be groovier living room. Prices compare favourably to the *other* MCM store, and the proprietors here seem really nice and friendly and enthusiastic about their wares.

The lady who helped me was…read morevery kind and friendly and helped me measure tables and chairs so I can have some reference when considering the pieces in my home. There's plenty of mid century furniture to choose from and upon inspection of some of their refinished items, they do an incredible job. Like with vintage and hard wood furnitures, some of the pieces are not cheap but they're unique and will last a long time. The other plus to this store is their kitschy (and sometimes original) art pieces and tchotchkes. I prefer this place to the shop in the Quay so I'll most likely come back as a few items tweaked my fancy (especially the sunburst table) and I'll be sure to let people know about this place.

Banana Lab - Cute little designer purses. Reminds me of the miniature MOMA chairs.
