In May, my van, my daughter's car and my home were hit with hail. I took both of our vehicles in for estimates. Sadly due to the extensive hail damage, my daughter's car was totaled. My van had less damage and needed to be repaired. My van looks brand new again. It was such a relief that I didn't have to deal with the insurance company and Ryan took care of everything! They promised me to get my car fixed and pick it up by noon, April 14th. I checked the date with them on April 12th. When my wife dropped me at the shop 11:30 April 14th. I couldn't believe that the guy at the shop said one part was not received due to bla --------. What surprised me was that they didn't even bother to call me. I knew he lied to me because the part could be ordered on April 9th when I sent my car in on April 6th. I would give this shop 0 star instead of one. Now they said my car will be ready on April 17th (Tuesday) and the part will be ordered from Toyota on April 16th (Monday). Should I believe what they said? I never got service at this shop. I considered the price for their work a bit high. At the same time, reliable sources informed me that their work is of high quality.I strongly disagree with the Iowa insurance law of 3 bids and only the lowest quote will be paid. Awful service!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND URBANDALE AUTO BODY SHOP!! I initially brought my car in for an estimate (usually a quick 15 minute task) and he didn't feel like looking at it at the time so he told me to leave it there and he'd look at it the next day. So I told him to call me once he decided what he was going to do with it and what it was going to cost (this was on Friday), and his response was, "Well if you don't hear from me by Wednesday at noon, then you call me." That is absolutely TERRIBLE customer service!! I didn't hear from him because he never once called me back when he said he would. He then told me that he would call me on Friday after taking another look at my car- again I never heard from him and when I tried to call there was no answer (and they don't even have an answering machine for me to leave a message). He had my car for over a week before he even looked at it to do anything, and I had to continually call him to find out what was going on with my car- meanwhile I had a rental car while my car was just sitting at his shop not getting worked on. They are also obviously "in the pocket" with American Family Insurance Company that was paying for my car to be fixed because he told me that even though my safety bar in my car door was bent he didn't need to replace the door because that would just be an unnecessary expense- but I told him that I wanted my car exactly how it was before I got hit and he still said it was unnecessary to replace a door with a bent SAFETY bar. A different auto body shop told me that a bent safety bar is not structurally sound and not safe to be on the road with. Even after I'd decided to come and pick up my car to take it to a different auto body shop he would not call me back at times when he told me he would call me and he would not answer the phone when I called even at times that he said he would be there. After I told him that I wanted to take the car somewhere else and I wanted him to be sure to call me before he did anything to my car, he had one of his workers come in on Monday morning at 7:45am to take my car apart even though I specifically told him to call me and ask before he did any work on my car. Terrible, terrible customer service. Only go to Urbandale Auto Body if you want to waste your time and money. My advice to them would be to follow through with the promises they make to their customers and not tell two different things to the customer and the insurance company. Also, be sure to have the customer's safety as your upmost priority. read more

We dropped our vehicle off late on Monday December 26, 2016 so it would be there for the start of business on the 27th. At 1 pm on the 27th I received a call from Ryan Lamberts, VP asking me to come in and endorse the insurance check (it was made out to us and the shop) I asked if it were necessary for me to sign it over before the work was done. I was told by Ryan he didn't like leaving checks laying around (first red flag) I called my agent to ask if this were normal procedure and he reassured me it's not uncommon for insurances to issue checks directly to the shop completely bypassing the insured, so I went in and signed the check. I was told at that time my vehicle would be done Friday December 30th in the morning, but I should call Wednesday to see where they were at. I called at 4:30 Wednesday and was told by Ryan everything was right on schedule. Great! By noon on Friday I hadn't heard from them, so I called to inquire what time we could pick it up. Ryan asked, "Didn't Julie call you?" Ah, no. Who's Julie? I only ever dealt with Ryan. Then Ryan proceeds to tell me he didn't like a few of the welds, so he was having his guys redo them. Admiral. I appreciate them wanting to do it right. I would have appreciated it even more if they would have reached out to me, instead of me having to call and check. I was told it would be ready Tuesday Jan 3rd (they were closed Jan 2 in observance of the New Year). Tuesday comes, once again I had to reach out to them. I was told it wasn't done because the guy working on it was in the hospital with his wife (right! Insert sarcasm here) it should be done Wednesday...should! Wednesday morning I call asking them what time it would be done, because we need 2 vehicles that evening. I was told the guy working on it was home sick with a sick kid. Wait! Is this the same guy who was in the hospital just the day before with his wife?? It should be done...should. No! I say. IT WILL be done by 3pm. At 2:45 I call to ensure it is done. Ryan tells me he has bad news. Now what?? One of his employees hit it with something and put a dent in it and they need to fix the dent and repaint. IF they could get it painted Wednesday we could have it Thursday. No. How about YOU WILL get it painted today. I call my insurance company and complain. After all, this was the body shop they sent me to. The supervisor called the shop to inquire about my complaint. Miraculously the dent becomes a scratch and a chip. We were able to pick up our vehicle January 5th (did I mention it was supposed to be done the 30th??) Mysteriously, an orange Halloween bucket was in our vehicle upon pickup. My first thought? Is the mileage right? (it was) They only reason I gave 2 stars is because the vehicle looks fantastic. So, they know how to fix vehicles they just take forever and their customer service is lacking. read more

Awful. Took my car in on a Wednesday for some front bumper repairs after a small accident. I was told the parts were already in and it would only take a day at the maximum to fix. After calling back on Thursday, leaving a message, and getting zero responses I called again Friday to the same result. Finally on Friday afternoon I got a call back saying they found "another small problem" and needed to order a part to fix it, but that it would again be ready Monday at the very latest. After several unanswered phone calls Monday and no progress, I called Tuesday to pick it up only to be told it was not ready again. The lack of customer service and promptness is incredible. If you are looking to get any problem fixed in a timely manner, TURN AROUND AND FIND A NEW PLACE. read more

had good work twice in the past, so returned. dealer said bumper needed replacing. another body shop said they couldn't do anything. this guy spent 20 minutes on it and fixed it satisfactorily. wouldn't take any money since I'd been there twice before and he and his guys came up with an easy fix that was satisfactory. "a courtesy," he said, and didn't ask for anything in return, including a friendly review. i just laid down with my ipad and decided to do this as an afterthought. saved us $500. my wife and i went back and gave 'em a gift certificate for dinner in thanks. read more
