I really dislike the New York Airports and I only go through there if I am desperate and I guess the last time I was.

Moving on to the deets (do people still say that), this terminal opened in 1939, it's construction championed by former NYC mayor Fiorello La Guardia, a former major and pilot in the United States Signal Corps aviation division during WWI. At that time it was the largest worldwide and costliest airport ($40million) and was dedicated as the Pan-American terminal for transatlantic flights in 1940. It's success as a hub during the "Golden Age of the Flying Boat" during the 1940s was partially due to it's position close to open water, from which it was thought would be safer for sea planes to land with passengers, even though initially most transatlantic flights early on in aviation history were made aboard land planes. With technology advancements during WWII, these "clipper" sea planes became obsolete. The terminal was designed by William Delano and Chester Aldrich in an Art Deco style, most clearly seen in the ornamental details in the exterior raised reliefs, and wall murals contrasted with black marble used in the main circular core. It's the last remaining terminal in the US still in use from that era of early aviation development. More info about this terminal can be found here: http://s-media.nyc.gov/agencies/lpc/lp/1109.pdf It's interesting to see how the terminal is used now, mostly for Spirit Airlines. Although the wings of the terminal have recently been renovated to match more of the modern aesthetic that La Guardia terminals B, C and D are following, the amount of traffic necessitates a very crowded waiting area, so much that the couple times I've flown out of there in the past year it's felt a) claustrophobic, b) a potential fire hazard. Also the cleanliness of the carpet and seats are rather questionable, which is ironic and unfortunate because this terminal in its heyday was the seat of luxury departures overseas. As for current amenities there is an Italian restaurant, a couple convenience store areas, and a Dunkin Donuts. Bathrooms and drinking water are available. Security lines are usually fairly quick considering the smaller size of the terminal. Rideshare and taxis have designated zones for pick up and drop off outside. Parking and rental cars are further away especially due to ongoing construction, though there are free shuttles that loop around periodically.

I had used this service previously as found on AirportParkingreservations.com…read moreSeemed a bit shady....and they're not immediately responsive with calls... makes you wonder if you're gonna have to scramble last minute near JFK Airport to find parking when your flight's in under 2 hours... Anyway, it finally happened. 5 am, dark and cold with a 7 am flight, no answer, no one at this parking area at an industrial, warehouse facility. I had pre-paid, 10 days, worked quickly on my phone and found an alternative, thankfully with TSA Precheck, and the shuttle driver dropped me first... I made my flight! Reached the company later that day at their headquarters, their Toronto location, they informed me that JFK operations have ceased, no heads up, they have my phone, my email...no notification. Now fighting for my refunds (I have future parking scheduled and prepaid with them as well) Partially refunded after several calls and emails. Now they're not responding.... Shady operations!!!

Repeatedly Disrespectful Service from Driver…read more I had two very disappointing experiences with the same driver, Sam, from the 7520 Astoria Blvd location. The first was on a Wednesday at 6 a.m.--he drove aggressively, had a bad attitude, and made me feel like I was a burden just for using the service. The second incident was on a Sunday at 7:30 a.m. after my return trip. I waited over 15 minutes, called the office twice, and when the driver finally arrived, he didn't even bother getting out of the car to help with my three suitcases. When I asked why, he dismissively said he had "just got a text to pick me up," and acted annoyed that I had called to follow up. His tone was rude, unprofessional, and completely lacking in customer care. Based on these experiences, I won't be using this company again and hope management takes a serious look at how this employee is representing their business.

LaGuardia's Terminal A--better known as the Marine Air Terminal--feels like stepping into a…read moredifferent era of air travel, and that's exactly its appeal. While the rest of the airport has embraced a sleek, modern overhaul, this terminal remains a carefully preserved Art Deco time capsule that quietly stands apart. The experience begins the moment you walk into the rotunda, where an imposing marble tribute anchors the space. At its center is a striking bust of Fiorello LaGuardia, the airport's namesake. Sculpted by Luis A. Sanguino and unveiled in 1964, the piece is both formidable and memorable--the mayor's head emerges from the marble while his right hand reaches outward, as if mid-speech. It's an appropriately theatrical introduction to a terminal defined by character and history. That sense of history runs deep. Opened in 1940 during the age of transatlantic "flying boats," the terminal was originally built for Pan Am's Boeing 314 Clippers, which once took off from nearby waters. Today, it remains the only active U.S. terminal from that first generation of passenger aviation--a fact that gives the space a museum-like quality without sacrificing functionality. Inside, the atmosphere is calm, Spartan, and refreshingly human-scaled. Compared to Terminals B and C, which lean heavily into glass, steel, and digital efficiency, Terminal A feels almost like a boutique train station. The circular rotunda, designed by William Delano, is crowned by one of its greatest treasures: Flight, a sweeping 237-foot mural by James Brooks. Originally created under the WPA, it was controversially painted over in the 1950s and only rediscovered and restored decades later. Today, it's a centerpiece that reinforces the terminal's cultural and historical weight. Functionally, Terminal A is simple--but that simplicity works in its favor. Security is typically fast thanks to the smaller scale, and the terminal currently operates as the primary base for Spirit Airlines. Amenities are limited but thoughtfully maintained: charging stations, nursing suites, and pet relief areas cover the essentials. Dining options--like Salotto, Bar 212, Bar Veloce, and Dunkin'--are solid if not expansive. There's no traditional airline lounge, but the rotunda's distinctive wooden benches, with armrests shaped like propeller blades, offer a surprisingly charming place to wait. The biggest drawback is location. Terminal A sits in a relatively remote corner of LaGuardia, making connections less convenient, reaching other terminals or parking often requires a shuttle transfer. Behind the scenes, change is coming. The Port Authority has proposed a comprehensive redevelopment that will replace much of the aging infrastructure--including the utilitarian 1980s concourse--while preserving the historic rotunda and its defining features. The goal is to bring capacity and efficiency up to modern standards without sacrificing the terminal's architectural and cultural legacy. For now, Terminal A remains one of the most distinctive airport experiences in the country. It's not the most luxurious or the most connected, but it offers something rarer: a genuine sense of place. In an era where airports increasingly blur together, the Marine Air Terminal still tells a story--and that alone makes it worth arriving early for.
