The debark experience was not nearly of that same quality and could only be described as Average at best. We were the only ship there for the day, and it was still quite disorganized. The former Amtrak Station, still in use, was not what I would have expected of a world class city. The Acela Lounge was of a piece: crowded, dark, dingy, lacking amenities, and generally unattractive. The new Moynihan Train Hall, which I have reviewed in its own entry, is spectacular, spacious, bright, and impressive enough to show off to tourists from out of town even if you are not traveling from there. The Metropolitan Lounge is a corresponding upgrade. They have free food. They charge for alcohol. I accumulated enough points to have status one year (I live in New York City, and my elderly father lives in Washington, D.C., so I travel the Northeast corridor). They also issue free passes on a schedule I am not sure of. I recommend this space to relax. The patio, overlooking the main atrium, is especially tranquil. Among my favorite movies are 1970s paranoid thrillers, such as Dog Day Afternoon and Marathon Man. These depict a gritty New York City, at its worst. Fifty years later, Manhattan is thriving as never before. Moynihan and the Metropolitan Lounge as consistent with these developments. It is wonderful to see. PS You also get priority boarding.
