I have a…read morepersonal connection to MCRD San Diego because I recently had two family members go through boot camp. I come from a military family and have always had a deep appreciation for our military. It is such an honor and special moment to attend graduation here after not seeing or talking to your loved one for three months. Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego was built in 1919 and is located right next to San Diego International Airport (the other recruiting base is in Parris Island, South Carolina). MCRD is also home to a Drill Instructor's School and at times will house members of the U.S. Coast Guard. Thousands of Marine recruits are trained here each year. Those that enlist go through a thirteen-week training process in which the recruits are cut off from civilian world and must adapt to Marine Corps lifestyle. Towards the end of the training period, recruits are taken offsite for field training and must pass the 54-hour simulated combat exercise called the Crucible. After passing, they are officially Marines and can attend graduation. Even though it can be hard for a parent to let go of their child, they do some things for the parents to help with the detachment process. The recruits are not allowed to have cellphones or make contact with family, but they can write and receive letters. During boot camp, I always kept the training matrix hanging on my wall so that I would know what training exercise they were doing each week. They also have a Facebook group page where they will post photos of each company's training exercises. Graduation day is a special weekend when parents can have dinner at the Bay View Restaurant and meet their child's drill instructor. Then families are able to watch their new Marine march on the parade deck and see them for the first time. There is also a museum here at MCRD San Diego that focuses on the history of the Marine Corps. I enjoyed walking through it and checking out all of the different galleries and exhibits.

The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by dirt and sticky surfaces that made it clear cleanliness was not a priority. Everything in the room looked like it was trapped in 1985: a tiny, outdated TV, worn-out furniture, dingy carpets, and clocks that belong in a thrift store. There were exactly two USB ports in the room, and unsurprisingly, neither of them worked. If you're expecting modern amenities, you'll be sorely disappointed. Housekeeping? More like no-keeping. The civilian cleaning staff barely did anything. The shower was a disaster--the head was sticky, and there were long black hairs stuck to the ceiling and tiles, a surefire sign of carelessness. The toilet seal was leaking, adding to the room's overall neglected condition. The courtyards added to the experience, and not in a good way. You see, Marines frequent the area, and let's just say they don't keep it quiet. My nights were filled with the sounds of Marines doing Marine things--talking, singing, taking loud bathroom trips, and other shenanigans that echoed through the night. The thin walls made it impossible to escape the noise. If you want rest, peace, or even basic comfort, go somewhere else. This place doesn't provide it, and the experience left me frustrated and sleep-deprived. There are far better places to spend your money and actually feel like you're getting what you pay for.

I'm always reluctant to sign up for any kind of networking type companies but after doing my research I feel that the San Diego regional Chamber of Commerce will be the right fit for my company. There are plenty of options out there but I feel this one is the best. Time will tell. So far I'm very happy for the service that I've been provided and all of my questions have been answered without hesitation. When I first started in sales, this organization helped me learn alot. They have mixers,…read morepresentations, luncheons, seminars, discounted services and a lot of support for the business community. I learned alot here and also earned a ton of business. In addition, I made some lasting business relationships that turned into friendships that have lasted even after I moved out of San Diego. I would give the organization 5 stars except one thing: if you're not in friendly with the powers that be, and something happens with another member, you will not likely be handled in the most fairest way. Politics can play a role in member treatment as unfortunate as it is to say. I had an experience before I left San Diego that I know with certainty was handled very inappropriately, but I haven't had the time or energy to rectify or make a stink about. And at this point, what is done is done, I don't even live in Southern CA anymore. But if you go in, don't get on anyone's bad side, and go there to do your business this is a great place! You will meet alot of people! Course like anything, you have to sift out those that just want to trade cards and those that want to really learn about your business and develop a lasting professional relationship.........but it is well worth it, I made some great contacts at the Chamber that I'm still in touch with now!

Since we had already booked the Spanish Village Art Center for the reception, we wanted something nearby. For a couple hundred bucks, we rented the Balboa Park Administration Building Courtyard for the entire day. It's a beautiful and secluded venue, less than a half a mile down the hill from Balboa Park. You'll have to provide the chairs and PA system, but this is a great spot if you're looking for something less public and more intimate, but adjacent to the park. One thing to be aware of - you are in the flight path, so be prepared to pause the ceremony about once every ten minutes. We didn't take ourselves too seriously - our officiant and guests had a laugh about the whole thing.

Then I will need to attend a San Diego County Courthouse Hearing with this woman judge sometime in October of 2026. I will be asking for a permanent Restraining Order against this woman tenant for a (5 Years) time period and to get her Evicted from this Independent living Home on this property ASAP. My request is very urgent and important to be addressed by a San Diego Courthouse Judge. The SD Judge has Approved my request for an Emergency Temporary Restraining Order against this woman who is a current Tenant in this home. This has been an ongoing Case involving this woman tenant who has verbally threatened me this year in saying to me "She is going to beat me up several times ." My job was working as their House Manager for this Independent Living Home for over (one year). This ILA House has been in operation in San Diego, CA for (4 Years) now. I still am charge of managing these (4 people) who are currently living inside this household. This woman tenant has a history of verbal abuse and also of physically assaulting (2) senior citizen women in this household last year in July of 2025 and this year in August 9, 2026. This woman also has a very serious mental illness that's very difficult to deal with when she is off her medication every day. I have called the San Diego Police Officers several times this year in 2026 to drive out to our house to talk to her and to arrest her for these other crimes this woman tenant has committed inside this property. I learned the San Diego Police Department has not responded very well to my urgent requests to get this long term woman tenant punished for her verbally abusive behavior and also for her physically abusive behavior towards (2 women) currently living in this house. Whenever, I have talked to San Diego Officer Mitchell, Officer Aguiano, and Officer Messenger who work for the San Diego Police Station at the Southeastern District. These San Diego COPS said it's a long process to get someone Evicted from this Independent Living Home because I will have to follow their instructions to go through the San Diego County Courthouse Procedures and their Policies. It has been a lot of work for me and another person to get these documents filed and refilled yesterday. Me and another person was able to get everything done and that is Thank You to Alexandra who works in the Legal Aide Office yesterday who agreed to type up this (62 Page ) Emergency Temporary Restraining Order against this woman tenant who currently is a resident in this ILA Home. But I had to fill out several documents beforehand to complete this paperwork and then I had to turn in my completed paperwork to Michelle this Legal Aide Employee who was working at the front office yesterday morning. Since my Emergency Restraining Order was signed and Approved by this San Diego Woman Judge yesterday, I will be protected from being verbally harassed by this woman senior citizen who has threatened me in this place . This woman tenant will also be served by an official San Diego Sheriff Deputy sometime this week or next week at her residence in this Independent Living House soon.

On top of that, the lawyer mistakenly filled out a box he shouldn't have, causing another 2-3-month delay. The third time I sent it in, they told me my fee waiver had expired after six months--something I wouldn't have had to deal with if they hadn't taken so long to return my paperwork. When I finally made it to the sheriff's office, they hadn't checked off a required box, forcing me to go upstairs for reprints, which added another 30 minutes to the process. Now, with new laws and protocols for bank levies, even the staff seems unsure about the procedures. While all the employees have been friendly and helpful, the overall government system is extremely disorganized, making the entire process frustrating and inefficient.

Security guard didn't catch his name but there's like 2 there that rotated that day , one was very friendly and made jokes with everyone . At the interview Officer John was very nice and his personality together with his tone of voice helped the interview process more confident for my husband. They had oath ceremony same day which was a plus and cherry on top. ! Yay!!! Definitely recommend this office, all the personnel is friendly and helpful!

Set along the Ocean Beach seawall and a gathering spot for people of all kinds-as is commonly found in Ocean Beach, The Veteran's Memorial shows that the great counterculture of this bohemian enclave and People's Republic of Ocean Beach is not above showing some street love to the armed forces of our nation. With the sound of waves caressing the shoreline behind it, this location is perfect for the Vet Memorial. I have walked and ridden past it many a time and always am jolted into an awareness of what the bold rock memorial means and says. I know veterans come down and pick up trash and sweep around the grounds of the statue. It really is a wonderful testimony to both the veterans it honors and the all-encompassing toleration of Ocean Beach. Yes, that means even a toleration for the necessary evils of war, fighting, conscription, and still honoring those who have and will continue to sacrifice for our country. The awesomeness of Ocean Beach is as never-ending as the strong rock Vet pillar that sits at OB's endpoint near the mighty Pacific Ocean!
