This is one of the worst post office experiences I've ever had. I went in Saturday about an hour and a half for closing and I get there when a shift change and cash store check was happening so I get that I had to wait. But the workers had such an attitude. One of them who wander around told me to go to the next open window but when I got there then the worker gave me attitude while saying I didn't call you up. Then the wandering worker said well she can wait while you get set up. The way they didn't even seem to like each other and have to work together was not making it seem like a safe space. Luckily, this isn't my common post office that I would go to and I'm so thankful for that because the set up is so weird too like you can't even see the employee in the window to know. It's also incredibly dirty inside and there was a homeless person or something asking for money right when you walk in. Didn't feel safe, didn't feel any great customer service, extremely long wait. I've seen far worse post offices than this. Everyone complaining of employees giving an attitude perhaps need to understand these clerks aren't the complaints department for whatever you have going on. Ask to speak with a supervisor if you have delivery issues etc. It would be much better if some of the customers wouldn't stand in line trying to mail out a single first class envelope and waiting to buy a stamp just for that one envelope. Buy a book of stamps and you will save everyone else's time including your own. It would be much better if this post office had a caller window for people picking up packages open during a certain time of day like 10am or something then it would be easier to pick up packages like it was many years ago. But look at all other retail industries where everything is being automated or self serve so it doesn't surprise me that there is only one window or 2 at most open to help you. Sometimes putting yourself in the shoes of the clerk is all it takes and try seeing it from their perspective. It's not easy to have a postal job. Postal work isn't like a simple 9 to 5 job specially the ones going on route. The biggest problem is there is no parking lot for the customers and its either paying the over priced street metered parking or risking getting a ticket and when the lines are long, like waiting for 15 to 20 minutes in line for people to get their passports done specially if you know how to fill everything out then maybe do it yourselves instead of wa ting everyone doing it for you. Then that takes away time and sometimes its not worth paying overpriced meter parking or risking a ticket for waiting in long line to pick up package specially some rude customers with their kids screaming and jumping around like its a playground. The you all expect the clerks to be all smiling when you wouldn't be smiling either if you had to work in this kind of environment. read more

We have been trying to get the post office to send their in house locksmith to move their lock from our old mailbox to our new one for 18 months. I have gone through every channel possible and spoken to the supervisors five times in person and we are still waiting. The USPS deserves more support and it is so sad to see the way the way this institution has been destroyed. read more

They will mark our mail as delivered and then just leave it in the back. Had to go in 3 times for an item marked delivered that they swore was stolen from my doorstep but turned out to be in the back. Multiple packages marked delivered that I have just never received and they are so unhelpful. Never experienced a post office like this before. read more

The post office sucks. There are never enough people working, and the employees they do have are always apathetic at best. I've had to go to pick up a package a few times and it always seems to take forever. But this particular post office is beautiful as a building and a historical artifact. It was built in the 30s and houses two significant WPA artworks. One of them depicts Louis Sullivan amongst steelworkers, and in his hands he's bearing the Carson Pirie Scott building (also known as Sullivan Center, which is where the Target on State Street is located). The other includes an image of Carl Sandburg, local poet (at the time), as he lived just under a mile from where this post office stands. Little parking, all metered along Lawrence and Ainslie. There are boxes on the corner so you don't have to go in unless you have other business. read more

Wow! Worst experience and service I have ever had at a post office and not because of the wait... because of the rudeness of the lady behind the counter. For management's knowledge: Date 9/30/24 at 5 PM. I used a priority express envelope and she asked if I meant to do that for $30+ or did I mean to mail it just express for $9.99. I replied whatever was easiest. She did not like that response. Insisted I get the express envelope since, "I didn't even know or care if overnighted." So, I had to get out of line while trying to verify I was grabbing the correct envelope this time and writing the address in the correct place. She yells at me, "Turn the envelope over! See the 'To' and 'From,' that's where you write it, not on the front." At this point, she had me so nervous I was shaking filling out the addresses while watching her yell at an older lady who clearly just needed assistance. I wanted to help the woman, but I was so shook up I was afraid I'd make it worse for her. Since I had to tear open the first envelope I did everything except pull the seal off in case I had to redo it again. When I stepped to the counter she grabbed the envelope and said, "You didn't seal it! I did it for you. You need to have everything ready to go by the time you step up here got it??" I will NOT be returning to this location. Mailing important documents should not cause fear from the employees. It's called customer service and this location has none. Truly the first time I've been intimidated by a mail carrier. This woman needs fired and this location needs employee customer support training. read more

I just had an incident happen in Argyle where a postal worker from here rear ended my vehicle. I got into a confrontation with her because she completely lied about what she did and took no accountability what so ever. A sincere apology, taking accountability and being a mature adult would have sufficed but the fact she called me a b*tch and acted extremely disrespectful and arrogant ignited the fury in me. I called the Broadway location to file a complaint and two supervisors arrived on scene. I hope this incident gets investigated properly and doesn't get swept under the rug. Postal workers should display integrity because the residents trust you to deliver us important mail. I find it disappointing and utterly disgusting that individuals like this work for you guys. I had a scream fest on Argyle street tonight because of this POS employee that tried to lie through her teeth. Below is a picture I took of her USPS van rear ending the left rear end of my suv. Instead of apologizing like a grown woman and moving the company vehicle, she got nasty, took a boxed package out the van, slowly delivered the package to a business across the street and watched my anger unfold. This employee displayed nothing but pathetic, petty and unprofessional behavior. I feel like people tried covering up for her and know exactly who I'm talking about. You guys know who is in charge of the routes and which mail man or woman delivers to the specific streets. Stop playing games. People like her need to be fired because the lack of professionalism and zero integrity will make USPS look bad. These are not the kind of people that should be working here. Another thing, last time I visited this location to retrieve a package, the lady behind the counter had an extreme attitude problem towards the residents of the area who approached her at the counter. I'd hear them be polite with her and she just had the biggest darn attitude and bad energy. Kindness goes a long way. If your employees can't be kind and lack professionalism, you need to teach them that or stop hiring these ghetto, toxic energy exuding females at the post office that always look mad and have no common courtesy or social skills. You need employees that know how to communicate with customers especially at the post office. There is always a line no matter the time of day. There is usually just 1 apathetic person to handle walk-in customers which causes each person to wait at least 20 minutes before they are provided service. The employees don't seem to care at all about the customer. The leader "Miss Anderson" provides zero resolution to any matter that is assigned to her via a service request. She will accuse customers of lying when they provide facts. I have sent a few birthday cards through this post office, and they were never delivered, yet I have confirmed the gift cards within the mailed birthday cards were redeemed. Thus, these employees are stealing mail, and it has forced me to use a tracking number for an item as simple as a birthday card. In addition, I have set up a "hold mail" request that was confirmed prior to the dates the mail was to be held, and this post office delivered a package during the duration of when they were supposed to hold the mail and not deliver. The Supervisor who contacted me after I set up a case regarding their failure to hold mail did nothing to improve the situation and had zero recommendations to prevent this situation from happening again. All in all, this is the WORST post office in Chicago, and the employees should be fired for continuing failures. read more

I'll start by saying a lot of these 1 star reviews are definitely blown a bit out of proportion. This place is slow, yeah, but you'd think it was evil from the way some of these reviews talk about it. The bad: It is definitely slow in here. Like real slow. You'll be in line for a while. I was in line for about 20 minutes, and there was only 1 employee present for about the first half of that. That said, I didn't really mind. I wasn't in a rush, so this wasn't particularly inconvenient to me, but if you ARE in a rush, maybe go somewhere else. Outside of that, this place is fine. The employees seem pretty apathetic towards customers, but I don't need them to like me, just to help me send what I gotta send, which they did efficiently. None of the staff was rude, just short and to the point, which is totally fine. I'd come here again for sure. read more

I sent a letter Priority Mail out of this Post Office on May 12, 2025. I received it back at my home address on May 29, 2025 as not deliverable as addressed. In between I had notified USPS that it was missing and they found it sat it the Broadway Post Office for almost two weeks; sent out to a distriibution point and then returned. An inspection agent in Alabama, the destination of my letter, picked up and followed the case. The agent said there was not reason for non - delivery and that the Priority Label printed was Clear AS DAY. I paid good money for nothing. If you have something IMPORTANT to send, DO NOT use the USPS Broadway location. read more

The give a damn about customers waiting in the lines. The line can be damn by the and there will be one window open. You might get lucky and they might have mercy and open two windows. The hits keep getting better with this place. Two greeting cards sent were ripped open and robbed. One credit card that was scanned by their own delivery app never made it to me, yet conveniently was grabbed from when they scanned it and then used on a shopping spree. Ugh. I truly hate this place. I am a proud daughter (and granddaughter) of postal workers, so my gratitude for this profession runs deep. However, the Uptown location just CANNOT get it together. The desk clerks are always so unfriendly. They make you feel like you are ruining their days by merely being present. Most recently, the desk clerk was eating sunflower seeds, dropping them on herself, using her hands to remove shells from her mouth, clicking on the computer keyboard, and handling my packages while ringing me up IN THE ERA OF COVID. WHAT IS GOING ON?! It was repulsive and unsanitary and I will be filing an official complaint with the USPS because this is completely unacceptable and I just can't get it out of my head. All of this, on top of no greeting, despite my warm hello. She didn't ask me about my packages or if I need to declare liquids/hazardous materials in the packages. Just a total omission of protocol, of which I know is required because I have to hear about my mother (also a clerk) drone on about it during daily recaps. I respect, honor, and trust the USPS. Went here to submit a passport application for The Heiress Apparent. You have to make an appointment online at USPS. They ask that you arrive 10 min before your appointment, which we did. There is a separate line for passport applications and when they say you need an appointment, they mean that. The young lady waiting on us was pleasant and the process was quick. We got in at 1:35 pm and were waiting for the bus at 1:57 pm. She took care of La J and another gentleman in that timeframe. Don't have a photo, no worries, you can have it done there all at the same time. The level of service at this location seems to be fast. There was a line for all services and it was moving quickly. Another woman came in to renew her passport after La J had started the process. She was told she could do that in the all services line. We left to wait on the bus and about 5 min later, the woman was waiting at the bus stop with us. Do not try to drive up there on a Saturday because parking is crazy! For new passport applications, you will need a check made payable to the US Dept of State. If you don't have a checking account, USPS can do a money order for you right there. Whole process from leaving home to getting back home took less than an hour. read more

I simply called in and politely asked if they could do a bit of price estimation for a certain item I would be sending overseas so that I can bring enough money. What did I get? I ended up hearing a shouting tirade from the other side of the receiver. If you can't do it on the phone, then at least be nice about it and I'll understand. No need to scream at me like a ruffian. This post office falls short in so many ways -- and manages to get worse with each passing year. There can be a line of 30 people waiting for service and one person at the window (the newest woman they hired is on her phone while she waits on customers). If you call, no one will ever pick up the phone. The interior is always dirty, and mailing supplies are never stocked. The automated postal machine is frequently out of order. If I could give ZERO stars I would! Firstly, I hate when AMAZON uses USPS from China! Although I was expecting a package, I was never notified that an attempt was made. When I finally found out, I called this GOD FORSAKEN P.O. to schedule a "re-delivery" since neither the mobile app or the website was working for me. I called on my cell, a woman answered, listened briefly, then placed me on hold...for 30 minutes never to return and I didn't hang up. Since I was in my office, with my cell line still engaged on hold, I dialed the P. O. from my desk landline. The line was opened, no one said anything and immediately put that line on "hold" playing the same jackass message still playing on my cellphone! Now, I had 2 open lines on hold. After another 5 mins I finally hung up both lines realizing she NEVER intended to come back online to help! Why have a fricking number to call if you're NOT GOING TO HELP! At least have the decency to return and say "I'm sorry I can't help you", at least I know where I stand with that. This review confirms ALL the other HORRIBLE reviews I've read about this place! Just another classic Post Office experience. Though one I thought was especially obnoxious and unnecessary enough to warrant posting about for the bizarreness of it. Special call out for Clerk #93 for ensuring the Post Office keeps its well known customer service reputation. It all starts with me being one of two customers in the store. The only other guy was clearly off to the side preparing a package and not in line. There were all empty clerk windows but one. No line or even ropes to form a line. A very optimal situation. I should be able to go up to the clerk's window with no line, drop off my prelabled package, and be in and out... right? I waited at what appeared to be the start of the window where the only clerk was. She was writing something on a piece of paper. The clerk did not acknowledge me for a little while, so I stepped a little closer (but not all the way up) in case she wasn't aware I was there. Without looking up and very bluntly, the clerk told me to wait in line. So I stepped back. Then a few moments of waiting there, she says I now have to go *all* the way around "the line" to the next open window (which this "line" had no dividers to actually make it a line and nothing to really make it clear to even know it was a line). I do as she requires of me. "Perhaps there is special equipment at that particular window" I thought. I get to the obviously empty window where the "line" goes to to. Nothing happens. There are no other clerks, and she doesn't go over to it. Instead she calls me right back over to the window I started at in the first place with her still sitting there. When I get to the window, I asked if it was really necessary to send me around just to come right back to the same window. She ignores this at first, but I asked again. She then claimed she was unaware who else may or may not be working, and also unaware who else may or may not be inside the store in general. Obviously she was lying directly to my face since she knew to call me over more or less right when I reached the empty window she sent me to; but if we ignore that and take her at face value, shouldn't you at least be aware if there are other employees working with you or not? Not to mention being aware of any suspicious characters you may be allowing to freely roam the store could also be a good idea. That's just me, an overachiever I guess. Of course she also felt entitled to give me attitude for all of this - for making me sit, roll over, and bark for her so I can be given the privilege to see the queen of the post office and be allowed to drop off a prelabled package. She even went as far asking if I'm feeling okay. Perhaps she could use a vacation, US Post Office. She might snap violently on someone if something as incredibly minor as this set her off so deeply. Anyway, good job Clerk #93 for managing to take a prepackaged and prelabled box, scan it successfully, and hand me a receipt without causing even more trouble at the end. She did at least did say have a nice day despite it all (though obviously not meaning it), and she backhandedly mentioned I could use the machine next time for package acceptance (yes, good idea, push more people to the machine that is already midway replacing your job...); I would also like to believe she wouldn't purposely misfile the package due to being so incredibly ridged and hyper robotic about everything, so that's somewhat comforting to think about. But talk about making a huge calamity and ordeal over something that should have been a quick in and out. She really went completely out of her way to make this all happen, so I went completely out of my way to write about it for your entertainment to read about. read more

They hold on to mail and prepaid packages with labels affixed and tracking provided for over a week; They just don't give a rat's ass, and just sit on them in some bin, before they scan "accepted" even though the packages are and have been in their possession. If one dropped the package and not waited in line to get a receipt, which is so counter productive and takes up everyone' time ... you are screwed, just as I have been a few times. 60640 I heard was rated the worst post office in the country. I am sure it would make it again to the top ten! Many of the employees are beautiful and friendly, and competent, but management who directs these employees is poor and uncaring! The US postal general (file a complaint with the us postal general here https://www.uspsoig.gov/form/file-online-complaint ) might clean house and turn this location around. It is so very sad and unacceptable even with potential staffing shortages due to Covid! I will never step foot in it again, which is probably what their goal is - I hear them loud and clear "Don't you get it? How much more can we try to mess with your packages to not come here!" It is close to me, and mailing items is my livelihood, so I take the extra drive to go to 60613 that's on top of their game and gets to their mail quick and fast and efficiently. It's a PITA to drive, park, wait in line to get a receipt, but I trust they do their job and my items get to my customers in a reasonable time. 60640 SUCKS! The few beautiful people who work there I am sure are so tired of apologizing for the ones who continue to run 60640 USPS location in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood to not just the ground, but the abyss! read more

This is my post office of choice. I've had nothing but good experiences here. I came to get a passport after having it stolen during the busiest postal service season, Christmas/ New Years. I came it once and the passport export told me the exact documents and copies needed. I came back for full-service passport needs, submitted my paperwork and received my expedited passport in less than two weeks. The staff here were very helpful and eased the complication of U.S mail. Woman behind the counter berated me and refused to give the package back after I finally got someone, and then started a screaming match because she didn't want to correct the postage and I should know better. Went on to get someone else who was just as useless and followed me out after insisting they could no longer help at this location because doing their job was too much. I went to the Post Office on Broadway today (05/12/2020) to mail something out. There were only two people in front of me, but it took forever, because a customer felt like chatting, and the employee indulged him for maybe 15 minutes. Only two windows open. The young girl that finally took care of me had no mask on or any sort of face covering. They have some plastic partitions in the windows purely for appearance's sake, because the plastic was parted wide open. Not a safe place. Honestly dreadful, and a shame I am forced to live with this being in the 60640 postal code. I put in a change of address 1 month before my move to this area, and did not receive a single piece of mail (despite having that form in, and my name on the mailbox) for 2 months. An important check was lost, along with credit cards, bills to set up utilities, and even my voter registration card. I still only get about 50% of the mail I am supposed to 4 months later. Every day, I open my box to mail of the previous 5 tenants, even though the last tenant lived here 10 years. Which means I am getting decades-old mail at this address. All of my packages disappear. I frequently get amazon packages for people that have moved out months or years ago. When I write "return to sender", they don't pick it up. For the packages that do arrive for my building, they are thrown into the bushes and left in the rain instead of putting them inside. I called to complain, was put on hold for 1.5 hours (not kidding), and some rude, ghetto man picked up and yelled at me, saying I should have put in a change of address (even though I did so months ago) and hung up on me. I now have my important mail delivered to my workplace because my address is not a safe place for mail to be delivered. As we speak, I am missing a $50 package that was shipped 2 weeks ago and several Christmas cards from family. Unless you want to get robbed, do not tell people to ship anything important here. Pay for a P.O. box at UPS if you want your items delivered. read more

Whenever people complain about mail delivery on Yelp, I always chime in about my mailman Mark. He is always prompt, he knows everyone on his route by name, and will gladly take outgoing mail. He has seen me on the street on the way to the mailbox, and has offered to take my mail for me. This guy is so good that you can tell when he is on vacation. Needless to say, he was recently removed from his route, and faces possible dismissal. This is the result of an ongoing feud -- and lawsuit -- between him and his supervisors. I only know his side of the story, but guess who I'm likely to believe? So when you're rated as one of the worst post offices in the nation, the best thing you can do is fire one of your shining lights. I give up. read more
