Worst customer service and experience ever. The gentleman who works there is a sweetheart. The woman who works there is so rude, will snap at you when you have a question and will wait until there is a line around the building to start a second line. Really? You have to wait until there is 30 people on line to start a second line? It's Christmas time and anticipated to be busy. I've lived here since before this branch opened. I suppose that was about three or four years ago. It's dreadful here. The staff are demeaning and condescending to many of the customers. It's amazing to watch, but sad and frustrating at the same time. What's wrong with these "public servants"? What's wrong with the supervisor? How can they not be overwhelmed with embarrassment for being so appallingly bad at customer service? Update: Sick to death of this branch, I found out the very close UPS Store a block west at 207 East Ohio will handle your mail as mail. That's right, they'll send things as mail instead of shipping via UPS. Simply ask for it. No service charge. It's just one of many services they offer. And they're open on weekends. Rude, entitled and no customer service skills! I think that's what the qualifications are to work for the post office in the downtown Chicago area. I think they pulled these people from the worse neighborhoods so they can treat customers like dirt. Are our tax dollars paying for these employees? This is a shame as I have seen USPS in different locations and they have decent employees. Go to any USPS in the downtown Chicago area and you will see that they have all been trained by MADEA. Its funny in movies but not when you are paying for these services. I witnessed how this post office employee belittled and spoke down on another customer who was a foreigner and did not speak good english and was asking many questions. Americans are treated very well in other countries and this is what they see when they come to America, a bunch of classless postal service employees. Boycott downtown Chicago USPS locations. I *never* write yelp reviews but my experiences here have been so awful I decided to add my voice to the chorus. Staff is unbelievably rude - stopped by around 2:30 to mail a package, took my time writing out the address and just as I stepped towards the counter I was rudely scolded that "the sign says stand behind the line and wait your turn". Helloooo, you had plenty of warning while I finished addressing my package that I might actually require some customer service... A simple "just a moment" would suffice. Meanwhile, the two women working behind the counter carry on their conversation and force me to stand there waiting on the ONE occasion there was no line. PS - your sign is covered up by a printed flyer, thanks for the attitude though. read more

I can not believe how incredibly RUDE the employees are here. And, there's no reason for it! Always only one person working the counter, so if you come on your lunch break to even just simply drop off a prepaid postage package, you'll go beyond your lunch hour. No stamp machine. Buy your stamps at the Walgreens around the corner. Ship your packages through UPS...a little bit more expensive, but WAY less time consuming and aggravation. read more

This place is a joke - our government at work for us. For the 4th time in a month, services not available during advertised open hours; they randomly close with no posted reopening time, leaving clients to wonder if the wait would be 5 minutes or an hour. On New Year's Eve, there was a manager taken from duties elsewhere only able to assist people picking up packages; seriously - staffing a PO with someone who doesn't know how to post mail. The service here is mostly slow, obnoxious (government worker attitude), or both - but the recent unpredictable lack of services is completely unacceptable. read more

Extremely rude and uneducated, I thought I was lucky I walked in when there was nobody else in the office but I was wrong, after a "good morning" this lady got back to me yelling "what do you want"... everything else after that was extremely rude, I can not believe how people like this employee have a customer service job. Why post office, why!? WHY do you always only have one person working the counter? I'm aware the USPS has no money, but I'm always seeing random people wandering around behind the counter... just not assisting customers. The post office is right up there with the DMV as far as the frustration factor goes, and this location is the reason why. Always a long line out the door, always one person working the counter (granted, she's usually as friendly as a post office clerk can be expected to be, but not exactly speedy), no stamp-dispensing machine, and the do-it-yourself package thingie is broken. Always knowledgeable and able to help answer your questions, great staff. Sometimes I'll wait till the line dies down, it's a smaller branch and can get very busy during lunch and rush hour. But the service never falters. I even mistakenly dropped off a Prepaid UPS package into their drop box with other mail and they went above and beyond catching it and getting it to the correct carrier, so my customer received their package on time, thank you thank you! read more

I have never gone to this location and not had a weird experience. The first time I went three cops showed up because apparently the place had been on lockdown earlier, and the second time I went I was told that I had used the wrong envelope and the postal worker Dwayne told me to never come back - for using the wrong envelope. There's a UPS just a few blocks away - don't come to this location because it will take you thirty minutes to stand in line and who knows what else. read more

This place is the worst! Post offices are never pleasant, but the people here are down right rude and unhelpful. My box was slightly creased, and i was told i couldn't "alter the box" for flat rate. It's funny how that's never happened at any other USPS in the country. When another employee gives me a box to fit, the other woman watches me put it in , THEN says it's not a flat rate box. How incredibly unhelpful can you be? These people must really hate their lives to put everyone through so much hell. read more

If you go to this location during normal business hours, expect to be waited on by the rudest customer service agent I've ever experienced. I recently waited half an hour to get stamps (no stamp machine at this location!) and was told to "stay behind the line" until it was my turn. Excuse me? Just trying to make this line move faster, but they all move like molasses at this location so expect to be wasting time. I've seen this same agent yell at other customers. He should be fired. Just two employees, and one disappeared for a major chunk of the time. Both the mail clerks had a tremendous attitude. Very condescending - acting like my letter going overseas was a space shuttle they were sending to Jupiter. They should take a lesson from the wonderful post office staff at the Willis Tower post office - those awesome people handle 10x the customer load and are always friendly, polite and patient. Depending when you get here, the line can get pretty long, especially during lunch and after work rush hour(just like any other post office.) I usually see one clerk on duty there when i go. Don't expect to be in and out during peak hrs. The male clerk is usually pretty friendly to me ! When I missed a form, he told me what form to use , took care of another customer while i filled it out and didnt make me go back in line. Love their prelabeled drop off area. Go when they open. I wish I could give a negative 1 million stars for this GOD awful US Post Office. The two people that are working at this post office have not a single clue of the meaning "customer service." When there is a line literally wrapped inside of the building, what kind of sense does it make (with only two workers daily) for one of the workers to step away for 20 solid minutes to do whatever they are doing behind the partitions. Walking into this post office gives me the biggest headache because these two workers know full and well that they take forever and a day to get people in and out and on with their own schedules. It should never take me 45 minutes to get a money order! NEVER! It has come to the point that If I go to this post office and there is even 3 people in line, I will walk right back out. In other words, I can only be serviced at this post office if I get lucky and come at a time when it is empty (which - come on - this almost rarely happens in a post office) or if both of the workers decide to use their brains and both fervently work to cut the line down. These two workers need to get it ALL the way together! read more

SUGGESTION: It's inefficient to yell at people to "keep behind this line so the camera can see you" over and over ALL day. Put up a sign that SAYS "please wait behind this line" w/an arrow pointing instead! Classic US bureaucracy-make work for nothing. Never again will I visit this location... I entered the store and asked the worker behind the desk which box i would need to send my package she said to wait in line and she'll let me know. I waited patiently in line for 20 minutes finally I went up to the desk and asked her,"which box is necessary?" She hastily responded, "you should know these things before you approach the counter." She also instructed me to use a particular form and told me to go to the back of the line again. After waiting another 15 to 20 minutes in line, it was my turn, and this time i had a different worker. He barked at me "what do you need?" I handed him the box and the completed form and he said that I had the wrong form and I need to fill out a new form and gets the back of the line. I told him that I was given a specific form from the other worker behind the counter next to him. He responded saying that she doesn't know what she's talking about and that I need to fill out this new form anyway. I went to the back of the line and when I got to the front again and I met with that same man he was trying to charge me over six dollars for the smallest piece of tape necessary to close the box. Finally I said I didn't want any to use them to send my package and I'll go somewhere else as it was too much nonsense and very stressful. These employees use the little power they have to abuse people. The lady worker shouted "we didn't ask you to come here and that goes for all the rest of you in line" I wasted over an hour of my day trying to send my package. I finally went to another location located on 540 N Dearborn where I was greeted nicely and felt welcome. I was in and out within 5 minutes. The person in charge should immediately remove these two employees from the counter at 355 E Ohio and replace them with someone who actually wants to work.. NEVER NEVER again will i go to this location. read more

I have lived in the neighborhood for three years now, and always dread having to come here. There's usually only 1 person working, with 1 or 2 lazing around doing "busy work" or chatting. I regularly have to budget an hour to wait in line and mail an envelope, which is insane. They also completely lack customer service. Do yourself a favor and go to the UPS store down the street which can also mail via the postal service. They have no lines and actually helpful and efficient. read more

Why is there only ONE person working when the line is out the door?? The most comical part is there is one cashier open, and one single line. Instead of someone opening a lane so Dwayne can have some help, Bernadette positions herself in the front of the line to direct people. REALLY?! Arrived at 9am, when it's supposed to open, but lobby was locked. As the line grew, multiple workers walked past the line to enter the employees only door, yet the lobby remained locked. At 9:30, 30 minutes after it's supposed to open, with about 20 people waiting, I knocked on the employee door. A janitor answered and told me there was no clerk to open the lobby and had no idea when they were going to come in. He told me to call customer service. The facility's listed phone number is connected to a fax line, and the USPS customer service is near impossible to connect to. These employees seem to do whatever they want with no supervision and no easy way to complain. Save your time and ship with FedEx or UPS. read more

I just got berated and embarrassed in front of an office full of people. I just waited in line for 20 minutes to mail out three envelopes on my lunch break. I get to the counter and the bald head (clerk#19 on the receipt, also the guy who's depicted in another user's photo as awful) guy is working. I say, "I would like to mail three envelopes and get a book of postcard stamps please." He asks how I want them to go and I said it doesn't matter, the regular, first class. He agrees and says "The cheapest, alright." $2.15 flashes on the screen and he says "It's $2.74" I ask "What's the $2.15?" as I am pointing to the screen. He then says "Don't worry about that, I didn't offer that to you so it's not available." Confused but I say "Okay". He then proceeds to carry on saying how yea he didn't offer it so it's not available, I need to listen to what he says and not pay attention to the screen, continuing to ramble on about it. Then he says "Don't worry, I don't make a commission." I just looked at him. "It was a joke Ma'am" I say nothing. This must have upset his ego, because then he proceeds to start berating me in front of a line full of people and calling me names while he processes the rest of my packages. I am saying nothing all while he's doing this. He tells me "You can be nice or nasty and you're just a nasty person" and repeats himself over and over again continuing to call me nasty in front of a line full of people. I wish I would have yelled at him, but I just wanted him to process my packages, I have lost many a package to the USPS of Chicago and I really needed to get these out. It took 20 minutes for me to get to the front of the line with 3 people in front of me. Service is slow. When there was a line of 7 people, one employee left the front and started putting boxes into bins in the back while moving very slowly. I don't understand why they don't have any sense of urgency, especially around lunch time when people just want to get in and out as fast as possible. Dafuq? The man who works there is literally the rudest person I've seen in Chicago. He literally shouts at anybody who steps 1 inch over the line and I just heard him belittle a woman and call her a smartass to her face because she didn't bring her own tape. I passed by this morning for a postcard stamp. The line was long because there is only one person worked there. He was friendly. It cost me 30 minutes before I get helped. He asked me what I need and I told him a postcard stamp. He asked me about the size and I showed it to him. He said it should be the regular stamp. I thought it should be 35 cents only as it used to. Then I considered the price might changed and he should be correct. And I need to go to work so I paid without check the price. When I am on the bus, I checked the price on their website and it should be only 35 cents as before. The postcard is regular 4x6.He told me wrong and I spent more than I need to. How can him work there doesn't know about the price? read more
