Blech, I don't know what it is about the Post Office. No matter which one you go to, you have long lines and the staff just shuffle around behind the counter as if there is no urgency whatsoever. I can understand keeping a steady pace, but the delivery of service is matched often by the staffs demeanor and it isn't too great here. Unrelated to my plights, the woman in line with me made an appt. to process her passport, but when she got there it was unknowingly canceled. I felt bad for her as she went back and forth with attendant as she displayed the confirmation # and everything, also mentioning she had to take off of work. It was sad. What gives me a headache is the parking too, right out front are hungry meters. Come on. At least the South Orange Post Office gives you 15 minutes to handle your business in the Post Office, even though it likely won't be enough, its something. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would! Absolutely abhorrent service, they should be ashamed of themselves. I called ahead to confirm that they are open for walk-in passport services, they confirmed yes, and they noted until 3:30pm. The usps website also confirmed that this location accepts Saturday walk in passport renewals until 3:30pm. Great, so drove to Orange, ,NJ (about 30 minutes) from my home and arrived inside the post office at approximately 1:45pm. Got beckoned to the window by a young female attendant (last window - closest to entrance). She told me that the passport services are closed after 2 pm (never mind they told me 3:30pm on the phone and website says 3:30pm). Ok, then...well it 's now 1:51pm, which means I was in line before 2pm and at her window before 2pm, we are good to go. The young "lady" told me, "no...we aren't servicing any new folks...talk to her supervisor..." who happened to be in the window to her right...my left. The supervisor ignored us, did not listen to, failed to adhere to the posted hours, could have cared less....just poor service, lack of empathy...and failed in her job duties...she and the younger lady walked away from the window chuckling...it was almost as if they were relishing in their power behind the glass windows..."power tripping at the orange, nj post office"..who does that....zero reason for poor service, poor attitude and totally unprofessional...lazy to do their work... We were there with young children, did all the correct things, called to verify times, checked against the usps website...I will be contacting local officials...the rude attitude was beyond...I don't live in Orange but if this is how they treat all their patrons they should be ashamed...it's sad and dreadful... Probably a blessing in disguise that the didn't process our renewals...probably would have messed up the apps and paperwork would have somehow gotten lost...shaking my head...we must do better than this! read more

My husband really wanted me to leave a review of this post office again which was prompted by his great service today at this location. The bad reviews of this place do not do it justice as my husband and I both had positive visits here. His situation began weeks ago when a package was not being delivered to our house. At first we couldn't figure out why but eventually coming here earlier in the week he was able to find out (after spending countless hours on the phone speaking to customer service with no answer) that PayPal shipped the package with the wrong address. So obviously this was going to make it next to impossible for us to get it knowing it was probably going to go back to the place that delivered it. Well my husband came here again today in hopes that our package might have come back here since it's the hub of this area and most packages come in an out of here constantly. The guy who works here (Rodney I think his name was) was very helpful and told my husband that the package is most likely in a huge pile that's in the back. He said it would be very difficult to find but he wanted to try, so he went into the back and searched for it. Lo and behold it was buried in this "pile" but the guy was able to find it and go out of his way to do so. There was a line of people waiting but the workers here really wanted to have him leave happy and he did. My husband really did not think he was going to get the package and was very grateful for the staff here and Rodney's hard work to find it. I think this post office has a bad rep for no reason. There are some people that come in here that are just a bunch of complainers and I think that is because of that they wanted to help my husband since he is so chill and nice to people. Maybe others should just relax and give the workers a chance: this place is always crowded so it's ridiculous to expect impeccable service every time but they absolutely do their best here. We wouldn't mind having to come back again because of the great service. read more

Am I really reviewing a post office? In a town where I no longer even live? Either I have a lot of time on my hands (which I don't), this place has exceptional customer service (not even close), or it's just awful (ding, ding, ding!). This post office is horrible! It has got to be the slowest post office in the history of post offices. There were times where I contemplated asking them if they needed help behind the counter, it's that slow. Unless you get here when the first open, be prepared to wait. The worst part about it? The employees don't care. You can see them waltzing around in the back, talking, strolling, taking their time. Ugh. As you can tell I feel strongly about this post office. Seriously, the best way to ruin my usual good mood is by making me go here. So glad I no longer live near there. read more

Complete joke of a post office. Amazon deliveries due on Sunday come through them.. The only thing is that they rarely deliver them... The tracking number always shows a status of 'Delivered' or 'A notice was left because the mail receptacle was blocked.', but they never actually deliver the package. HORRIBLE BUNCH OF WORKERS RUNNING THIS PLACE!!! They keep misplacing my mail/packages, and they have the audacity to blame it on somebody stealing my deliveries, and telling me to go file a police report hahaah! when the tracking info clearly shows that IT WAS PLACED INSIDE THE MAILBOX!! I personally see no fault in this post office at all. I went in to mail some school forms before I leave next month and I was confused as to what slot to put the mail in. This place is soo quiet that it feels awkward for people who do not regularly go to the post office. It's just one of those places where you get in and get out, then carry on with your day. :)) The heat was probably stopping people from going in. read more

As a teenager living in Orange (Which happens to be a dump), I ship orders at this post office very frequently because I sell stuff online and I like to ship the orders to my customers ASAP instead of planning a schedule with USPS to pick up the order the next day. Now the post office: I hate it. This post office has 4 main windows and most of the time, it's only 1 window open. Sometimes 2 windows would be open and that's on a good day. This place obviously needs help by hiring extra employees but I never see a help wanted sign up. The employees take their time, not caring about the customers either. If I could give this location zero stars I would. Customer service is horrible. Upon calling you get put on hold. After 22 minutes of being on hold, I hung up. This was in the am. Called in the evening, placed on hold for 14 minutes. Someone picked up, another staff member unfamiliar with my situation due to the fact the first person never relayed the message. Stating she would call me back upon tracking a package that stated delivered that I never received. She never did call me back. Be it as it may, your best outcome is to show up, after hopefully finding parking, and wait in the long line to simply tell you to come back. I thought the mini-government shutdown did not affect the post office. However, our main post office in Orange may not know that. We live in West Orange and did not receive any mail on Dec. 24 or 26, a few pieces of junk mail on the 27, and no mail again on the 28. I know I have several packages that are overdue. For 22 years I have lived at my address.3 weeks ago they started delievering my mail to llwellyn park. They insisted I lived there! They were nasty and very unhelpful. I hate getting anything rom the USPS because they DONT do their jobs. I get other peoples mail , that's why I started to do all my bills online just for this reason. I went in to drop off passport paperwork after checking the website for the availability of the passport agent and found out they were available for the time and day I needed to go . BUT TO make sure I called before going and the woman on the phone had assured me someone would be there to help ( time gap of 20 minutes later ) I arrive only to be told there was NO ONE to help me . The man suggested I called the wrong number so I called the same number in front of him and guess what the phone RANG right next to the lady who told me there would be someone there to help. She ignored me pointing out that she was the only female behind the counter who obviously was the one who answered. All the man could offer me was a shoulder shrug and a different post office location. I understand cooperate websites putting the wrong schedule because it's happened to me at work BUT to have a live person tell me I could be helped then have them deny it it 20 minutes later I couldn't believe it . read more

The Orange Post Office actually has worse customer service than Comcast! After giving up on having PO Boxes (my home mail wasn't being delivered to my house- another long story), I rented a box at the UPS store on Main Street in Orange. I order a lot of stuff through Amazon. Last fall I had 6 packages re-routed by the PO because some illiterate there can't read an address. (UPS Store: 278 Main St vs. P.O.: 384 Main St.) They were seeing my box number, and (this is theory I was given by some woman at the PO) and returning the merchandise because the forwarding instructions for their box of the same number had expired. That one woman had even said she would have the responsible person call me back (never happened). I called many times, most times the phone just rang for a really long time (I'm persistent if I think I have a snowball's chance), once it was picked up and immediately disconnected. I even tried going on-line and filing complaints, NOTHING came of that. Finally I gave up - mostly because Amazon resolved it by refunding me or replacing the merchandise. And now it is starting again (May 2015). I guess I should just start shopping at the mall again. Just for kicks I'm going to try to send a letter to the Post Master in Orange. I agree with comments about long lines and poor parking. I tried a PO box at the satellite office on Main St in W. Orange (by Northfield and Valley) - they have lousy hours and they stuff your box FULL of the Sunday newspaper coupons and flyers. read more

It NEVER gets better. NEVER. We moved to West Orange one year ago, and had I based my choice of town per their postal service, we would NEVER had bought here. We are still, one year later, still receiving mail for the previous residents, while my packages go missing, or somehow appear in the bushes next to our house days later. We have filed three formal complaints, had three case numbers issued, request "carrier alert" stickers 4 times (which have still not yet arrived); Im throwing my hands up. I wish I could opt out of USPS. I tried to talk with our (MANY) various carriers - no result. I've spoken with postmaster (Valerie? Veronica?) twice (when someone actually picks up the phone there, which is rare) - she gives lip service, and could care less. I have to sit on my front steps to ensure the RIGHT mail is left in the CORRECT location - unreal! Upon visiting this office, it's repulsively dirty, and there's no mistaking that NO ONE who works there wants to help anyone with anything - it's a bit over the line to see and hear the employees speaking nicely to each other, but use nothing but rudeness when dealing with customer after customer. This place needs some SERIOUS investigating. I've done all I can to ensure I receive as little as possible via USPS, but, amazingly, what little still comes never comes correctly, and we're still looking for two packages that magically disappeared in March... Updated 12/30/18: I didn't think it could get worse, but it has. The number of my packages delivered to wrong houses has increased, and the number of times a "substitute" carrier has marked a package as unable to be delivered due to "unsecured location" (front porch?!?!?!) has skyrocketed- mind you, this usually happens later in the day when the carrier realizes she forgot the package in the truck or just can't be bothered to complete the rounds. People COUNT on things being delivered without incident and chasing- you guys seem to make a simple task as difficult as possible, and you're dishonest and without the slightest compassion when one of your CUSTOMERS asks for help. I visited today this post office for the first time since moving to Orange 14 years ago. The experience was fatal. A number of books were sent to me more than 10 days ago and the young lady who took care of my complaint went looking for the books. I waited 1 hour and she never had the courtesy of returning to me within a reasonable amount of time to advise me what the situation was. Meanwhile while waiting the line was growing at window 5 and employees would simply pass by and walk away. They don't seem to care. I dont like to give bad reviews, but now that I am writing about this post office most of the carriers don't know how to read. I get mail constantly for other people. I take the botheration to drive to the intended recipient to give them the mail that was wrongly put in my box. I go to South Orange or Maplewood post office and service there is impeccable. They don't comprehend that they are employees of the federal government. They should not be opened on Saturdays if they are not going to service the people who pay their salaries. Shame, shame on this post office. I hope I never have to go there again. I intend on sending a letter to the supervisor and a copy to the headquarters because we should not be waiting on line 1 hour and get absolutely no response. read more

The post office itself is disorganized beyond belief, in fact chaotic. Employees seem to not care about their job for the most part, nor do they bother to pay attention to where they place the mail. I submitted a mail hold during a 3-week trip and collection/resume upon return. When I went to collect/resume mail and the clerk said the post office had "nothing on me" and the next step would be to "Wait and see if the mail comes". Is Post Office in the mail business? They are very condescending when you asking questions, as if you should know the answer prior to asking. this is by far the WORST post office in the area. I was supposed to get a package a few days before Christmas, which I had to reschedule for delivery. Well, they took the slip with my signature....but never delivered the package. When I called on the 24th to see what happened to the delivery, no one could find it, and my mail lady didn't know what happened either. The wont just say its lost either, they just keep saying they'll look for it. Its been over a week now and ever time I call I get some who can't help me. And tonight, I asked to file a claim that its lost so I can get a refund from the company it was sent from, and I got someone with an awful attitude telling me she couldn't help me, I needed to call back in the morning, and was super rude about it. Doubt I'll get someone who can help me then too. The lose things, and have AWFUL customer service. read more
