Honestly, since there are a lot of older folks that live in this town, I assume they don't want to drive their Lincolns to the next town to get their mail. It's not really that far from the next town but this office is still a gem and is very useful to the town's residents. It was actually pretty busy when I went. It was near Thanksgiving so that might explain it, or maybe since it was snow and ice people didn't have anything else better to do than go to the post office. This office is really small and everyone seems to know each other so it has that small town friendliness that you would assume would be present.

I know it is weird to review a post office because I don't think people go looking for post office…read morereviews. But on the off chance that they come across this one I want to make sure they know what they are in for. I live equidistant from two post offices so depending on how I am feeling I will go to one or the other. I typically like going to the one in Indianola vs Kingston because it is a prettier drive and cute quite little place. But yesterday when I went in I had an awful experience. I immediately could tell the lady behind the counter was in an extremely bad mood. And she was taking it out in everyone else. Every customer that came up to her seemed like the biggest inconvenience to her and they all left feeling a bit grumpy them selves I'm sure. Then it was my turn, in an effort to make her day better I was quite and as polite as possible. Problem was i was shipping a dvd media mail and she tried to charge me first class prices. No big deal i thought i will just politely remind her i am actually shipping media mail. But oh no that just pissed her off more she started sighing and stabbing buttons on her touch screen and even slammed my movie down on the counter. Then she interrogated me on what kind of movie it was(it was Spiderman) which according to the website doesnt matter and according to the 10 other times I have shipped out movies in the past 2 weeks doesnt matter. But for some reason she made it a point to argue with me and tell me she couldn't send it media mail. So I pulled up the rules on their website and she just said in a Huff that she would ask the post master. (Which was fine with me because I hope he will be more reasonable than her.) She was rude, unprofessional, uncourteous, and uncaring with customer packages as I was not the only one who had a package slammed on the counter. I will be sure to do what i can to avoid this place in the future.

But I do recommend trying to do online so you have everything inputted in the computer and everything will be good to go. Came in and had my temp scanned and all the chairs are separated to 6 feet apart. I did see that even if you come in with a friend or family member, that they still required you to sit apart. So I would probably recommend coming alone or having them wait in the car. Overall everything was fast and friendly.

I stood in line for 45 minutes to be told I needed additional documentation, and I returned with the required documentation. However, I was still turned away, despite their website still indicating that walk-in appointments were available. They said they do this when they have too many people, but there were plenty of seats available, and I told them I could wait all day today. They refused to give me a ticket. Instead, I was told to make an appointment online. Currently, you cannot make appointments online on their website, and they have implemented a policy of Friday-only appointments. However, they WERE taking appointments...for the "right kind of people." It felt discriminatory and completely random. They wouldn't tell me what that meant. I am a teacher and not readily available on my schedule. When I asked to talk to a supervisor to complain that their website was clearly out of date, an older gentleman came out, slapped a pamphlet into my hand, and simply walked away. I've heard horror stories before about this particular gentleman and this office, but I didn't believe anyone who worked as a social servant could be so rude. It's agencies like DLEO that epitomize government waste, disorganized, wrong information on their website...they need to be audited, and see if we can cut them from the state budget in favor of online services. I will be writing to my State Representative.

There is this one Asian lady (I believe she is Korean) who helps me most of the time when I'm there, and she is great every time! She explains how things work thoroughly, whether I'm there for mailing in my old passport to get it renewed or sending a package to Japan. She is also very careful about putting in the correct address so I feel more comfortable and confident getting help from her. She also has good energy level and is nice to talk to. Being in customer-facing job myself, she inspires me to do better at my job too. This may be common knowledge, but since they do not let you use mailing tools like glue, tapes, or scissors, I recommend bringing them from home if you plan on packing on-site.

Why am I paying for a mailbox if they just leave my items outside and my mail isn't in my personal…read moremailbox? I had to stand in line to my mail. And to top it off, there's only one person working the desk while someone is sending a million letters out. So frustrating.
