US Post Office here in Mount Joy is probably one of the most delightful mail experiences I've ever had. The staff (it's usually the same person every time I go) is friendly and congenial--they actually seem like that want to be there. Normally, there's never a line or only one other person being waited on. I did go the other day during the holidays to send a couple of packages and there were several people in line. However, by the time I took care of all of my taping and addressing my boxes, the line had diminished and I only waited for about two minutes for my turn to be up. When I lived in Suffolk, Virginia, the post office there closed for an hour during lunchtime and they had a larger staff. Well, Mount Joy is a much smaller town with a smaller staff yet I do not see any closures during lunchtime. Take that, Suffolk! Their hours are: M-F 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. There are PO Boxes but no 24 hour access (M-F 5am-5pm, Sat 5am-3pm, Sun-closed). This facility does not process US Passports applications or renewals. There is a small parking lot to the right of the building and there is also a drive-up mailbox there as well. Others Services Offered at this Location: * Bulk Mail Acceptance * Burial Flags * Business Reply Mail Account Balance * Business Reply Mail New Permit * Global Express Guaranteed® * Money Orders (Domestic) * Money Orders (Inquiry) * Money Orders (International) * Pickup Accountable Mail * Pickup Hold Mail * Lobby has Copier I'm taking off one star because the lobby is small and set up in such a way that it makes it difficult for people to move around the line. Obviously, it's not normally an issue, but still.

I'm in this place at least 3 times a week. Yes, it can be really slow, especially during holidays…read moresince they only have 1 or 2 tellers. But! I enjoy these two girls very much. They're always cheerful, smiling, and we have quite the fun banter. This makes my postal tasks a little easier to bear. And they have an awesome drive up post box for quick letter deposits. Sweet.

Initially, we were told that we may have to put our mailbox on a post that holds two mailboxes, ours and our neighbor's. Couple of issues there, first, we don't have a next door neighbor. The lot next to ours hasn't sold yet. Second, no one else in our development has this situation. Everyone else has one house, one post, one mailbox. Our builder installed a beautiful post that follows the guidelines on the USPS website. ( https://www.usps.com/manage/know-mailbox-guidelines.htm ) We filled out the change of address online and requested that it go into effect right away. No mail has been delivered. My husband has been trying to settle this issue. He got nowhere with the postmaster. So today I called the postmaster and was greeted by an IMMEDIATELY nasty attitude. Very rude and curt right from the get go. The postmaster told me three times that the issues is that the arm of the post is installed facing forward and it's supposed to go to the left or the right. She refused to answer questions and say anything other than the installation is incorrect. The USPS website shows the proper installation for the mailbox arm to be facing forward. The other homes on our sparsely populated block are all facing forward. I think this is just abject laziness on the part of the postal service. They don't want to have to deliver to all of the new homes in the area, including ours. Nice, right? No wonder they're going under. I fully intend to file a complaint and get to the bottom of this.
