While visiting from the Philly area my rear derailleur cable snapped about 12 miles into a 50 mile ride . They were very accommodating with an emergency replacement which I greatly appreciated! Probably one of my worst experiences ever as a customer at any business I've ever been to. I brought a bike in to be fixed and was told that there were a few additional issues that they recommended be addressed as well.... Reluctantly, I agreed to let them take care of them (I don't know too much about bikes, so I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt). They told me that they would have to order a new shifter in (okay, not a problem). I called them up about a week later to check on the status of things and they said "well we should have the part in a few days and should be able to fix it right up." Two weeks later, I finally got the bike back after calling them back multiple times and being told "it'll just be a few more days" each time. In all, it took three weeks to install a new shifter, rear derailleur, and chain. They claimed that it was due to difficulty in getting parts, but regardless it would have been nice to have some sort of update from them at some point - the only two phone calls I got from them in that three weeks was 1 call the day I dropped it off so they could tell me something else was wrong and 1 call to tell me it was ready for pickup (after I called them that morning asking about the status of it, and they finally got back to me four hours later). In total, the bill was $225. Almost half of that was labor costs, as they charge a flat rate of $20 in labor costs per part that they install. The cherry on top was when I was leaving, the manager said "yep, now you can go break it again so we can fix it for ya again!" Really? Three weeks and $225 later, and you're going to make that joke? Sorry, but your priorities seem to lie with making money and not with serving your customers. I'll be taking my business elsewhere (heck, if it means saving $100 in labor costs, I'll just teach myself next time. I'll save time and money compared to what I went through). TLDR: brought a bike in to be fixed, and it took three weeks. $225 in total, almost half being labor costs. Management seems to prioritize money over customer service. read more

I've been to Bicycle & Fitness Outfitters only once, when my paisley blue and white beach cruiser got a flat tire. Upon walking in the store, I knew I was out of place. BFO clearly caters to cyclists and not the campus bike cruiser. Regardless, I needed my bike fixed so I rolled it into the store and was warmly greeted by the employees. I didn't have an appointment, so it took about 15 minutes for an employee to have some time to take a look at my bike. When they did, the diagnosed the problem quickly and gave me two options. They offered either a quick fix tire repair (about $10) or they could special order my tire and replace it for me. I opted to have the quick fix. After about half an hour, my bike was good to go and I rode right out of BFO. The quick fix has held and I have't had any problems since. read more

I've bought 2 bikes over the years here. My sons bike when was younger and my woman's hybrid trek navigator bike (gosh, this bike is a Beauty and rides well. ) I took my bike on the 42 mile nyc bike tour and it road like a charm up the Verrazano bridge. Bob and his team were so helpful to me when selecting this bike. Late last year my son outgrew his bike, so I gave him my old mountain trek bike. He rides it like crazy mad. This week I walked in with it cause he needed new petals, a tire, etc... okay..it needed an overhaul. Bob took the bike went over everything we want done with it. He said it would take a few days, but the next day they tuned it up and made it ride like it was brand new. My son can't stop talking about how well the bike rides now. I would highly suggest you purchase a bike and get your bike serviced here. Roll on! read more

I recently took a bike into Bicycle Outfitters that I had purchased in the mid-1990s. It definitely needed some TLC. They replaced the necessary parts in a timely fashion at a reasonable price. They did not try to up-sell me on anything. Very pleasant experience. read more

Did not have a good experience with 2 bike tune ups, took Bob 2 weeks to finish, we paid $65.00 per bike and did not get our moneys worth. Bob said the bikes were road ready (after I asked him) with that said when we got them home to go for a ride 3 of the tires were 20 lbs.( way under the correct PSI) I did expect both bikes to come back cleaner then when I dropped them off to him, but that was not the case. I called Bob and told him I was not happy with the results , especially when he told us up front I will give your bikes some TLC, he said bring your bikes back and I will check the tires for leaks, he should of checked for leaks when he had our bikes . At the very least he should of offered to pick them up, my impression of him is he doesn't care,after he gets paid. Never again , we will not be back. read more

Outstanding example of why you go to the 'local bike shop' pros: unbeatable prices on new bikes, quick repairs at modest prices cons: only trek and a few cannondales in stock; no ebikes i moved here from switzerland two years ago. walked into the shop in the middle of winter just to look. the guy really went out of his way to find me the right size hybrid trek. i checked on the web and the lowest price--delivered in a box--was the shop price, and that included one year free service! two years on and they have replaced two chains and the entire back wheel during my 6000 miles, mostly on the gravel of the rail trail. i bought things like tubes and lube and the prices in the shop are like a dollar more than on amazon. it is a pleasure to take my bike into this shop, and to be able to have so much trust, with friendly service. read more

I disagree with the prior poster and don't know how she came to the conclusion that the store "clearly caters to cyclists." The man on staff (Justin) was very helpful to me despite the fact I I wanted a bike for exercise and recreation, not racing or BMXing. I never felt looked down on in the least. Granted, the store is located in a "college town" but I never got the impression it was there only for one market of bikers. Several children's bikes were clearly visible as well. If I had thought they were being uppity, I would not have stayed as long as I did. read more
