I have used this post office quite a bit over the years. I believe it is the largest in the vicinity. I write to say it is possible, unlike at many other venues, to find a space in their parking lot. Well, for that matter, it has a parking lot. That by itself may recommend it to you. The wait time is, in my estimation, maybe slightly better than at some of the smaller alternatives. I would not drive here just to mail a box. I would, however, plan a set of errands as one does, in order to use this facility in the course of checking off that list of to-does. read more

Dog Water. worst government service, just use fed ex. It will take 30 minutes to an hour to get through the line, where one person works. So they are understaffed. It will then take them another hour to find packages. I have complained to management, to supervisors, ive emailed complaints and wrote them. There is no solution. My experiences at this post office have been mostly positive. I like that they're open slightly earlier in the morning and later in the evening compared to other post offices so I can go before or after work to mail things out. Our experience this morning was awful. We set up an appointment to apply for a passport for our almost 4-year-old. The appt included taking a passport photo, a service that is offered at this location. The workers were rude and dismissive and tried to refuse taking the photo of our toddler because she was having trouble understanding what was required of her (no smile, ears showing, sitting up straight, etc. - it's a lot for a toddler to do!). We had to beg them to try a couple of times despite our appointment taking much less time than the allotted 15 minutes. A tiny bit of patience, some stage directions for the parents, or even just a little bit of niceness for an intimidated little kid would have gone a long way! read more

I only come here after hours to mail packages out and lately the stock of self service stuff has been crazy low. Oh and don't bother asking for help during or after regular hours because the staff is either insanely rude or just plain aloof and dismissive. Lastly, I hate leaving negative reviews. Good morning, My name is Tonya. My husband James and I came into your post office branch on our lunch break to re-new our passports. We walked in and took the seats right outside of the office marked for passports, and within minutes, we were greeted by an employee named Keisha. I wanted to take some time to inform you of how wonderful Keisha was in assisting us. Not only were we greeted by her smile, but she politely asked us to come in and take a seat. She immediately asked how she could assist us, and we both were so happy to have someone like her to work with. It is not every day that you encounter individuals that are happy to be helpful and do it with a smile on their faces. She asked for our paperwork, took the time to make sure we did not leave out any pertinent information and even answered a few questions. Once she saw the paperwork, she realized that I had a birthday coming up, and before we checked out, she told me to have a Happy Birthday. After everything that this nation has gone through over the last 2 years, it is so refreshing to know that Keisha can still come to work with a smile on her face and willing to share her joy with others. It was a pleasant surprise as well as a stress-free experience because of Keisha. This post office has gone postal! Everyone called out sick today and leezy was in line for 30 minutes. It's making me wanna go postal!

I hate everything about this place. There is only one way in and one way out of the facility. And turning out of the lot onto Wisconsin Avenue is a nightmare. Good luck finding a courteous driver to let you out. The parking spaces are situated in a manner that makes it very difficult to see around the other cars. Nerve wracking and very dangerous. The staff are so rude to people and they are painfully slow. They have no sense of urgency whatsoever. One woman in there takes the crown for rudeness, though. Her name is Juanita and this woman is just mean. She consistently displays a bad attitude and the way she talks to people... unreal. When she's not being nasty to people, she's muttering smart or sarcastic comments. Really? There's no way that her supervisors are aware of this behavior and still allow her to work in the front. I don't know who tinkled in her Toasty-Os, but with that kind of attitude, she needs to be working in the back, away from humans. I once watched her flat out ignore and then berate an old lady who was just trying to ask her a question. She saw the old lady standing there and intentionally yelled "Next person IN LINE!!!", every time the woman opened her mouth to speak. Why should the lady have to wait in line just to ask a question? This went on for at least 10 minutes. I was so shocked at her behavior that I contacted the USPS to report her. I don't care what you have going on in your life, you DO NOT treat customers that way. read more

The mail men/mailwomen delivery mail in the neighborhood are generally 5 stars, but the service at the physical post office is mediocre at best, so let us say three stars. This is my go-to post office. It is not my closest PO, but it is my favorite. To anyone that thinks it's bad, please go to the Georgetown one for comparison. Why favorite? Easy access off Wisconsin, PARKING! Have always found a space. Spacious interior with automatic machines to process packages, racks of material to purchase, USPS standard boxes, nice counter near line so you can rest your boxes or fill in forms. Wish both doors automatically opened, but that's a small complaint. Varying number of staff depending on hour & day, but they have never been anything but polite & efficient, despite some highly demanding, inefficient and confused patrons. Really, I feel for the staff who have to smile ! Lovely experience yesterday: first package was surprisingly expensive, gave her next & she weighed & looked at it, dashed off to see if it would fit in a flat fee box. She then stuffed it in with my help, it was a tiny bit larger, but she wrapped it with yards of priority mail tape & off it went! That is over & above service in my book! read more

USPS retail stores generally have the worst customer service experience in the US. The lack of oversight or accountability are always on display. However, for the first time I can say that my experience has been great. The clerk that I dealt with was empathetic and guided me to find what I needed to do for certified mail (tax season). Offices like this are the reason USPS is going bankrupt! The employees have serious attitude problem! Expect to go in, see about 20 to 30 people waiting in line, and instead of being helped by 3 employees behind the counter, you have to listen to their conversation about .... (I'm sure my review would get flagged if I quote them) Seriously, if they were not wearing a USPS uniform, there would be no way I coulda guessed they were getting paid to do what they were doing! So, after promising myself I would never step in their office again, I realized I had to pick up my new passport from there... OOUCCHH... Let's just say I made my appointment 2 weeks in advance, and they called my name almost 2 hours after my appointment, and the lady was in her room, by herself, and there were no customers before me... Woof. Generally, I hate the USPS. With a passion. Their locations are in incredibly inconvenient areas and the service is almost always awful. Maybe I'm just bitter since one employee in New York reduced me to tears when I was twenty years old and now I almost quiver everytime I walk in. Basically, places like the DMV and the USPS generally make me angry because the employees treat customers like garbage and know they won't get fired unless they actually kill a customer, burn the place down, or steal a few thousand dollars worth of merchandise. The postal employee of choice here gave me a pen after I asked for one so I could fill out the label on my package. Halfway through writing the address, the pen dies. I go up and ask for another one, explaining the lack of ink problem. He responds, "I gave you that one just in case you walked away with it. I'm not giving you another." Are you serious? I don't come into a post office to mail a package express at over $10 a pop just so I can walk out with a pen bonus prize. I think this treatment is incredibly insulting, and I had to go and ask fellow customers if I could borrow their pens. The one benefit of this location is that sometimes it's open till seven. I have a very serious hate hate relationship with the USPS. ::: Deep Breath ::: Too many times have I received damaged packages, torn open envelopes of my mail - cards from my mom, friends, etc... the worst was when my roommate was getting her work visa papers in the mail and someone had opened it before it got to her. This is completely unacceptable! I don't particularly like this post office for several reasons: 1. Their parking lot is really small and it's a one way in - loop - one way out. It's difficult and you must be patient to get a spot. Of course once someone is actually trying to leave and reverse out of their spot, there's no room for them to do this because of the line of cars waiting to pull in. 2. When I received a package, it came broken in several pieces. My mom had bought insurance when she sent it to me - but of course she had the receipt for the item because it was a gift - as well as the insurance receipt, so they gave me a really hard time about getting reimbursed for the cost of the gift even though they could obviously see that the package had insurance. Grrrr. 3. When I applied for a new passport here, the lady wasn't very friendly and no one had told me there was an updated version of the form before I got there so I had the wrong form and had to re-fill it in...and she scolded me for not having known this prior to my appointment. 4. The line is always ridiculously long and it doesn't seem like they care to be quick and efficient. The only thing that I like about this office is their hours. And as Steve mentioned - again on the parking lot - you need to be coming north and be in the right lane to get into the parking lot - making the left turn from Wisconsin is IMPOSSIBLE. Why 2 stars instead of 1? Because somehow I still get my mail. read more

I would like to encourage Yelp to promote a little peace, love, and understanding and prevent reviewers from using personally disparaging comments, as has been the case here. [The post by "Babar S. of Addison TX" should be removed entirely, because references to "Rapper Missey looking ghetto princess" are inappropriate and non-productive.] What can such a comment add to a discussion of service delivery? My experience at this post office has been uneven, to be sure. Sometimes the staff seem to be helpful, kind, and warm; other times they clearly wish to be elsewhere. What is behind this, I don't know. My largest complaint has to do with older or infirm people having to wait in a long line while a low bench is 10' out of their way. Can't they move it? I also wish they would use signage to clear up where they want people to stand, i.e.,which side of the counter. (Sometimes there are competing lines at cross purposes.) They have to handle passport inquiries, people moving or holding mail, and the usual USPS domestic mail transactions. They also seem to have a high number of overseas customers mailing internationally. This may account for the lines and complicated transactions. This post office is horrible and it's all because of the wretched people who work there! I had an encounter with an employee there and immediately reported it to the postmaster - Gerald Roane. He showed genuine concern with my complaint and said that he would address it. Unfortunately, my package (that I shipped on the 12th) has mysteriously gone missing; it was supposed to arrive in CA on the 16th but according to tracking, it hasn't even left DC. Now I can handle a b*tchy postal worker but NOT a b*tchy postal worker who TAMPERS WITH MY MAIL. I will NEVER go to that post office again. read more

They told me to call first thing in the morning and work it out with the Friendship Post office. I've called three times. Classic DC Postal experience, it can be hit or miss, you can tell if one clerk is nice to a customer the other ones give them the evil eye. It is the US Post Office, the DC workers at Post Offices, really need to get some customer service training, as it is clear that this is not a customer focused business. This post office and it's employees are a joke. They are so disorganized, it is record breaking. They have lost one and the same "certified" letter 3 times in a row! UN-BELIVABLE. And when they start looking for it, it is like children are looking for a misplaced toy. There is not one exact place where the certified mail should be, oh no, they are looking in drawers, and nooks all over the office, which just underlines that there is no system whatsoever. I had to return 3 times and each time they said they will send someone to drop it off at my house or let me know otherwise. Anyway the result was they never found the letter, never dropped it off and never notified me, even after having visited this sad institution 3 times and speaking with the manager. Additional to that is that the staff has a CRAZY attitude! Man, oh man, what are the requirements to get a job at the Post Office? None? What is going wrong there? No wonder the US Postal Service is losing money. This place explains why: customer service is non-existent. I got to this post location 40 minutes before closing time on a weekday and there was a line of 10 people already waiting, with only one clerk at the window. Two other clerks tried to direct people to the automated machine, or moved boxes from the counter. The one clerk, an older black male was slow and seemed to be just going through the motions, as if conserving energy or running the clock. I was shocked when after spending what seemed like an eternity assisting a single customer, he walked away from his station and went to the back. Several minutes passed and I started wondering whether he would return at all. Finally he returned, and when someone asked why he was gone for so long he replied "bathroom break." Closing time came and there were still 5 people in line. In all, I estimate I spent 40 minutes trying to mail a box. I will not be back to this location. read more

I'm willing to forgive mail being late. I understand with covid everything is behind and that usps is doing the best they can to catch up. Even the people working here are pretty polite and friendly. However there have been pieces of mail and now a package that haven't been delivered to me and I've had to report them lost. Oftentimes I get mail late because it was sent to the wrong building and eventually someone brings it over. I just kinda hope that by posting this review the carriers take a little more care with double checking addresses because I've had time sensitive mail get lost and it's incredibly difficult and frustrating to have to sort it out when it says it was delivered but wasn't. read more

When I walk in a post office, I expect it to be a "Post Office", meaning long lines, non existent customer service, etc, but this location was BEYOND what I could have imagined. Due to the location, I had to come here about a dozen of times (certified mail, bulk stamps, passport related stuff, etc), and I don't understand why every single employee that I have encountered felt sooooo obligated to be rude! They actually got me thinking, if an average person want to complete the assignment of one of these employees, the hardest part would be to be this rude to the customers. They are just sooo bad, that I now make the trip to other locations to avoid these people. But heyyy, I guess that's what they really want, less crowd, less long lines, and reduced work flow... at least until they close this location... It may seem strange to anyone who has ever done business at any US Post Office to give this one a 4-star rating, however, it is because of those other varied visits to other locations - ranging from tedious to terrifying - that I must give props where they're due. I do have to say that my rating scale may be a little skewed. If you're a person with plenty of time on your hands who doesn't mind when clerks are rude, otherwise preoccupied (i.e. on their cell phone), or openly dismissive, then this and all my reviews aren't for you. Personally, I don't have time for that. I need to get in, get out and frankly, the less I have to interact on the way, the better. In light of that, this Post Office is perfect. Primarily - the self-service options are open 24x7. Making access to my PO Box über convenient. Nice not to have to worry about limited access times...(like M-F 9-5 at the Calvert location) Boo. The self-serve postage machine is a huge bonus as well. But people, you know who you are, if it's too much for you to handle, wait in line. There's no shame in it. Take yourself over to the desk and let them do it for you. Don't hold up progress being proud. The clerks aren't more or less surly than your average postal clerk, but at least they're acceptably quick (and you can always opt for the machine... =) read more

Yes. I am reviewing a Post Office. The passport office at this USPS Friendship Station is absolutely fantastic. The staff are helpful and accommodating, they have a full office vs a desk at a busy counter and they are tremendously responsive and customer oriented. We needed to get a passport renewal for Soccerballgirl presto pronto. Getting a renewal for a kid is just as big a deal as getting one in the first place - we had piles of documents to bring here and get authorized before we could send them to the passport courier service. They were fantastic at this office and I want to give them a big shout out. Thanks. read more

I am so disgusted with the service here, both delivery and at the desk inside, I don't have enough space to write it all down. They claim to have delivered packages that have NEVER been delivered. At least not to me. They constantly give me mail belonging to other addresses. They even gave me mail for my whole block because they were too lazy to deliver it themselves. Forget about calling them, they don't answer the phone. Good luck getting a manager that will actually do something. Unfortunately it's a Gov't monopoly and we're stuck with it. My low score is not due to the post office itself. I've received good service there. Its due to the awful parking lot. As others have said, its tiny so sometimes its full. And if you are driving South on Wisconsin towards this Post Office, you will have to make a left to enter the parking lot. Good luck. Its a death trap. The sheer incompetence of this Post Office is amazing. How can employees be so smug and so rude as if it is my fault their job sucks? How many times do I have to tell them "this person is dead, stop giving me her mail" before the understand (mind you the deceased hasn't owned the house in like a year). I came on at 10am on a Wednesday morning with 15 boxes of books (25 lbs. each) to be shipped cross country. Needed a post office with a parking lot, and this fit the bill. The staff did a really nice job in a couple of ways. 1. One worker saw me working really hard to lug the boxes into the station by hand, and he brought a cart to the sidewalk to make it easier for me, without my even having to ask. 2. When I got to the front of the line with my 15 boxes, there was only one woman working the counter, and seven people behind me with much smaller jobs. The woman smartly ushered me to the side to be helped by someone else. It didn't cost me much time at all---someone else was out to help me within five minutes--and it saved the people behind me a lot of time. read more

So rude, these employees are. I had four reps "help" me after getting to the front of the line 3 times to send an international package. Each one told me differently and most of them seemed unfamiliar with the process (I should've gone to FedEx as the service was outsourced to them in the end anyway). I wouldn't have minded the lack of knowledge if they had just been nicer. But they behaved in a manner that I should've known what I was doing. If you look at the distribution of my reviews you'll see a bell curve - most places get 3s or 4s, some 5s and some 1s. I would suggest that this indicates I'm a fair reviewer. Having said that, I give this place 1 star. I agree with William H -- Hit or Miss. I walked in today Oct 29 2015 at about 12:30pm. I recognized the two men working. One had a name tag that read 'Gaskins.' He was slow but friendly and pleasant. I didn't get a chance to see the other guy's name tag. Unfortunately this was the guy who 'helped' me. I had already gotten a mailing envelope from the wall but I needed to address it. They had no pens on the table, so I waited on line and when it was my turn, the other guy - not Gaskins - called me up. I said hello and was friendly and asked for a pen, adding that there were none on the table. He lent me a pen and then told me to step back while he helped the next person. It took me all of 45 seconds to address the envelope and when I got back to him, he was just finishing up with the 'next person,' a woman who he was clearly familiar with as they were talking about Tortola and other islands. I remember he said "I just got back from Cancun recently." Then when he was done with her package, he unplugged his cell phone from a charger behind the counter and....walked away in to the back, leaving me standing there with my package. Gaskins had been helping a tiny older woman for about 10 minutes and when he finished with her -- about 5 minutes after the other guy disappeared-- he gestured for me to come on over, and he took care of me. But that other guy is a total tool, and I can see why the USPS is going under. I'd rather pay a few dollars more and go to that UPS store that's 2 blocks north of there on the other side of the street where the people are efficient and friendly. read more
