This is ONLY a great experience if Tonya is NOT working. She is the most miserable person Ive almost ever encountered. I have been meaning to write this for years. She doesn't have a bad day, she is a pure grey cloud of negative energy . She is rude and miserable. There is zero joy in this woman's body. Ive not sure why she works for the US postal service in customer service with such a negative personality. I got spoiled living in Columbia and having Ms.Yvonne for YEARS'!!! I have occasionally left the most office if Tonya is working solo because she is that miserable to even be in close proximity to. You hear how she speaks to everyone and you think na ill pass. Theres now a UPS store across the street. Go there if you can it may be more expensive but this woman is an unpleasant experience. I feel bad for her coworkers cause I couldn't imagine working every day with a human just miserable 24/7. Ive tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but I've been in Cleveland park 3 years. I haven't met the clerk Parker, who has been reported as rude. But he couldn't be any worse than TONYA, who is not just rude, but belligerent and mean. I have seen her turn away people in tears because she will not help them understand how to mail a certified letter. She refuses to accept packages not labeled the way she says they should be labeled and sealed and turns people away instead of providing service. For my part, she mistakenly told me I could not handwrite an address on a priority envelope, intentionally refused to scan the envelope and refused to return it to me so I could take it to another post office. I do not know what happened to this mail - but I do know that what she did is illegal. She either intentionally delayed my mail or intentionally kept it without mailing. According to USPS regulations, Whoever knowingly and willfully obstructs or retards the passage of the mail, or any carrier or conveyance carrying the mail, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both. Don't try talking to the Cleveland Park manager, Mr. Brandon Toatley, who said: Well you got into it with Tonya. He did not know where the package is and did not care to find out. Super convenient post office to my mom's house, and have been numerous/thousands of times. It seems like they're still adjusting to Covid being endemic though as they have all this signs up still about their restrictions when things were worse and the entire section where the clerk is is sectioned off behind a newer glass wall. The line was long today, but I had a good podcast and wasn't in a hurry. Thing is though, with 3 or 4 people in front of me and 2 working on other packages inside , it could've helped to briefly have a second attendant. When I talked to her she was very cordial. Also, it's always dark in there and it looks closed when you walk by. Inside the door that looks like it's for passport appointments is falling apart and the stand of packaging supplies seems to be blocking a good number of P.O. Boxes. The interior needs a makeover badly. Basically, it's a good post office, they just need to take down the plexiglass wall they put in during COVID and do some little renovations. Great convenient location with Saturday hours and friendly staff. Only a five minute walk from my place so my go to on the weekends. I've stopped in and bought cards and the like to mail out the same day when I haven't had time to head to the store. I've only ever used this location to send out mail so I can't comment on the other services offered. The staff is always friendly and that's a huge deal for me since I've been to plenty of other USPS locations where the staff is rude and unhelpful. There is usually a line when I come which is generally on Saturdays but that's not surprising since I assume most folks like me work during the week and only have the weekend to take care of running errands. The USPS keeps finding new ways to fail at their job. This place CONSTANTLY goes above and beyond to disappoint, make you wait, be rude, ignore you, and lose your mail. Last Monday I mailed a package that needed to arrive in NOLA Thursday. The people behind the counter NEVER wait long enough for you to request electrical receipts and just press the print button without asking you or waiting. The printer ripped my receipt on the tracking number and the woman insisted it would be emailed. I should not have been stupid enough to listen. Sure enough, I got home, did not have an email, called the store, and they said they COULD NOT RETRIEVE my tracking number even though I was JUST there. My package never arrived, it is now Sunday. I am running a small business and this is why no professionals rely on USPS for their shipping. I will now only travel MILES out of my way to go to UPS. They have NEVER lost a package, area always fast, kind, and helpful. My packages arrive on time or early with UPS. I ALWAYS get my digital receipts and if I lose one, the tracking numbers are easy to retrieve. It is 2021! Catch UP! I can show you the exact transaction on my card statement, date and time and precise charge, I know it is in your computer, so why can't you retrieve tracking? It is embarrassing for our country that the public mail is so unreliable and still often more expensive than the private companies. I second the other reviews that "Parker" in particular is INCREDIBLY rude and goes out of his way to tell people no and refuse to help them. He acts like he's the manager and just yells at customers and other employees. I've seen him come back from a break, see the line is really long, and just go back into the back leaving the only woman working stranded. Brings a new low to the USPS. Consistently unpleasant employees who seem to take pleasure in yelling at customers. I understand it has to be a frustrating job and we all have bad days. However, I don't need attitude when I come in to simply buy stamps or drop off a straightforward box that I've packed up, addressed, and have ready to go. Extremely rude employees. I wish I could leave zero stars. For starters, I went there today (12/26/20, the day after Christmas) to mail two first class packages that were prepaid. One package was 90% taped but I ran out of tape at home and figured that I could either use free tape at the post office or buy another roll. The second package wasn't taped at all. The post office only had free priority tape and I waited in line to purchase the clear "first class" tape. This was completely okay. After I purchased the tape, the lady that checked me out said I had to tape my package outside of the enclosed space and use the main lobby because they were getting ready to lock up. It was only around 12:53 and the were closing at 1PM but I just said okay because sure enough it would only take a minute to finish taping one of my packages. I had accepted that I wouldn't be able to tape and mail the second one that same day. As soon as I started to tape up the first package, I overheard another USPS associate stating to kick out another customer out of the enclosed space and sure enough it was still not 1 pm. The same associate asked me if I needed to purchase postage and I said no because I didn't and was just taping up a first class prepaid package. When I started to bring my package toward the front, I saw and overheard the USPS associates telling other customers that they were closed despite it still not being 1:00 PM. I then said "Wait a minute. I just need to drop this package off." One of the associates the tried to tell me that they were "gracefully closing early" because they opened early. I pointed out the sign on the door that says that they close at 1PM. They hesitantly took my package but then threatened me with saying " you can take your package back since you want to be cute". I live in Cleveland Park but from now on, will just go a little further to the the Farragut Square post office where they are friendly and professional. read more

Wish I could leave zero stars. I have never felt as embarrassed or upset walking out of a USPS as I was out of this location.  Your employee with 'Parker' on his tag could use an attitude adjustment and right-quick.  If that cannot be done, I strongly recommend moving him from working with customers as he has no bedside manner whatsoever.  This is the *second* time where I started to ask questions about the policy he states and his reply to that is something along the lines of 'I don't want to argue with you.'  It may not be those exact words but he explicitly states/makes a comment that I am arguing with him--when I am simply questioning what I am being told, namely because I have used the USPS all my life & love the USPS (seriously; ask my friends) and the rules/directions he gave me were things I have never heard previously.  For example, I reuse boxes all the time & my reused boxes from companies have never been refused because the company's logo is there (that was the first time I 'argued' with him).  Then, he tells me that I have to rewrite the addresses (the 'to' and the return address) because I did not have it on the correct side.  I have never heard this before in my life and I have sent many-a-package.  When I questioned it, yet again, his comment was that he didn't want to argue with me to which I balked because I did not think I was arguing--I was merely commenting with, albeit, a flabbergasted tone, so perhaps my tone could've been better.  I just commented that I have never run into these many issues or redo's on my packages before and he said something along the lines of 'I gave you a simple solution.  Most customers just do it.' Let me tell you--I did do it.  These are just rules or directions that I have never received beforehand.  He was rude, condescending and made me feel small.  It also makes me worried that my package won't reach its destination simply because a man could not handle a woman questioning what he was telling her. I would love to receive a phone call from the manager of that location because I truly believe he should not be working with customers or he needs follow-up training on how to deal with customers who question what-may-be-new rules to them.  This is not a 'Karen' situation-if you review the Yelp reviews for this location, there is 1 male employee who has earned this location multiple negative reviews.  It is already a difficult time--I do not need to be gaslit simply because I am asking questions or wondering when/why these esoteric rules are being enforced now. read more

I have rarely ever received good service from this location. I went in this morning to purchase some stamps on a whim. Unfortunately I'd forgotten a mask, but stood in line for about 15 minutes until someone asked me to approach. The employee rudely asked if I had a mask, I explained that I'd forgotten and just needed stamps and she cut me off and just said you need a mask. I understand the mask policy but she was so rude and dismissive that I felt it would be better to try another location. I love the USPS but this location leaves so much to be desired. read more

In my 30 years of using USPS, I have never dealt with someone this rude when I asked a question about how to do something. I came up to this location to apply for my son's passport (after having a crap experience at the Washington Square location - see that review before applying there). This is new to me, but you need to schedule appointments to apply for a passport (not sure if this is specific to DC or new to the passport process overall). Anyway, I scheduled my appointment for 1:30pm on a Tuesday. I had all my paperwork and was on time (seriously do not be late!). Saundra was extremely helpful and patient. She checked to make sure I had everything and noticed the back of my license wasn't copied - she even went back and made a quick copy for me instead of just sending me back home to come another day. She explained to me when I'll be expecting his passport and the original birth certificate (which you apparently send in to get the passport). I was also able to mail out the items I had with me right after with Saundra. I had a really pleasant experience and so appreciate her attitude and willingness to help a flustered mom get this done. It is hard to get out of the house with a 3 month old and I so appreciate anyone who will understand that and just be friendly and nice to a mom let alone help her get stuff done! I know where I'll be going for any passport related things in the future. Oh also parking is really easy up here at least in the middle of the day during the week. read more

WE, the taxpayers, the ones in your line, the ones affected by your abysmal service, vote whether to keep your post office facility open or decide, what's the point, mail sits at this postal depot for days and we get abused by you, in keeping you open. So, the next time you are rude, and someone asks you a clarifying question, think about the power of the voter and your pension. Depending on who you get this place ranges from fine to terrible. I came to send back a package with a code for them to scan and wasn't sure if something needed to go in the package so didn't tape it up. I also crossed out the existing label because it couldn't be removed. They wanted to charge me $4 for a piece of tape and to repack the entire package inside out. The last time I went here neither thing was required. The woman had a massive attitude when I pointed this out. This is on top of their absurd and authoritarian approach to lines. I misplaced an address I was sending to, was trying to find address on my phone when the clock struck 5pm, and the postal worker shut the processing system down after I'd already paid but before I'd finished looking up the address I was sending to. I was ejected from the office having paid for services not rendered because "it's 5pm, the machine is down for the day," even though I had the correct address in hand. This was after I'd bent over backwards unwrapping a gift I'd meant to send because they were so understocked they didn't have a single package to fit a reasonably sized gift box, and the only way I could ship the gift at all was without its wrapping. That had taken me ten minutes, with zero help or suggestion from the postal worker, otherwise I would obviously have been done before 5pm. Rude staff both a female and male clerk at window. Refused to accept my package filled with stamps on all sides except the bottom. Clerks said stamps should only be on top of package. There are no such rules! I have $44 from my stamp collection and decided to use them for mail. Clerks were lazy to count. I told them the Friendship and Chevy Chase Post Office accept it all the time. I came to this place because I just got my Covid kit from the library nearby. Took it to Friendship post office and they processed it with smile and comment about the stamps and gently cancelled them. Post Office supervisor should look into this. read more

Went to passport services about three weeks ago to apply for a passport. I had a wonderful experience at this location. I came on a Monday morning at 11:00am. It wasn't crowded at all and the women that help me was so friendly. I wish I could remember her name but she made the process very easy. It didn't take very long, maybe about about 10-15 minutes max. She answered all the questions I had and was very informative. Can't wait to get my passport! read more

An inevitable line - bring a friend or book. Almost every time I come to this post office 2 people are working. During the holiday rush there was a third. Today there is only one person - and I'm writing this review while I wait. The longer it is the longer I'm in line. I often see children in line and they are all attracted to the greeting cards. Once an employee policed the cards telling adults to stop the children from looking and touching - which is almost impossible since there always seems to be a line and the cards are at a child's eye level. They threatened the adults with having to purchase any card the child touched. They have the standard boxes and shipping supplies for purchase. I've never had to but others have to purchase tape if you need some. There is also adequate counter space to prepare your items for shipment. I've personally only had good customer service from the employees so I continue to return this location. My only complaint is the line...the inevitable long line. At least I can get some yelping in while I wait. They now close early on Saturday. So come with a book or something or someone to pass the time and you will have a pleasant experience. (There are still 2 people in front of me) read more

You know those little sticky notes mailmen leave on your door? If you're not at home when they try to deliver something? I had gotten three of those, and my package was about to get sent back... After a tiresome round of telephone investigation with the corporate operators, I learned that it was in Cleveland Heights. There I had a pleasant dealing with a local service agent. The lady at the desk could see my excitement, and so she started guessing what was in my package, teasing me and laughing about something coming all the way from Nebraska. The point is, she was anything but disgruntled, and made me smile on an otherwise stressful errand. I left my ID at the desk, on my way out, and she called me "honey," to get my attention...and the thing is, she would have called any of us any number of pet names--that's just the sort of friendly service you will get here. read more

They have very negative attitudes, constantly talk back, and are incredible inefficient. My son and I went to the post office in Cleveland Park (3430 Connecticut Ave, NW) this morning. We had an appointment to get him a new passport. Since he got his last passport he has transitioned and legally changed his name. We walked in a bit nervous - Post Office employees have a tough job and they can be cranky. Plus I never know how my son will be received. (He wasn't particularly nervous, to his credit.) The two women on duty could not have been nicer! They helped us ensure our papers were in order (they weren't), they helped us figure out what we needed to do to complete the submission and were patient, kind, and at no point did they leave us with the feeling that we were doing anything at all out of the ordinary. I realize these are elements of normal human interaction but I don't take it for granted anymore, sadly. I was so moved by their generous spirit and gentle ribbing (of dad, for getting the paperwork wrong). My only regret is that I didn't say anything in the moment - so I am saying it here - I am truly thankful for the experience and for their help. read more

Walgreens took an unusable passport photo of me so when I received a letter informing me the picture was rejected 2 weeks before my trip, I went to the post office panicked. I am sure they were like "oh boy, this lady...." as I can seem unpleasant when I'm anxious(this is a generous description). But the two women at the post office were equal parts "leave your b!tchiness at the door, hon" and "I'll help get this done for you"- which is honestly exactly what I needed. To be blunt, I'm an idiot about these things and the one woman took my photo, showed me exactly which envelope to use to expedite the photos, then called me back to take a photo where I was looking directly ahead, to prevent a possible issue with this photo's acceptance. The other woman actually took the envelope from the state department, the photos, the letter I was sent and the envelope to expedite, and put them all together, checking the address, in the process she had to reopen an envelope I had mistakenly sealed (I'm a mess) and she sent it off. She took over to the point where I just had my extra photo in one hand, the receipt she gave me in the other, and she told me what to do with each- "that photos an extra for you and the receipt is to check when your letter reaches its destination" (paraphrasing). I'm a pain but they really saved the day and I truly appreciate it. read more

I just had a very negative experience trying to get my passport renewed. The woman working at this Post Office was the rudest human I've come across in a long time. I watched as she spoke in a loud, condescending tone to an older lady in front of me for not knowing if her credit card had a chip. Her rude tone caused everyone else in the room to take notice. "MA'AM YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CARD IN THE MACHINE IF IT HAS A CHIP!!" The poor lady was taken aback and said "I'm sorry, I don't ever use this card so I just wasn't sure what to do". I was next in line and she treated me as if everything I inquired about was a major inconvenience and talked to me like I was completely incompetent, even saying "let me slow down and tell you again" when she had never explained it to me well in the first place. I had done my research online beforehand and asked a couple of simple questions around that to determine if I should mail my application or go in person to get it, and she nearly took my head off.
