I used to have new carriers all the time but have some fairly regular ones now. They even deliver packages on Sunday on occasion. One perk for sure of a small town post office such as this one is that there usually isn't a line. Even when there is, it often moves semi quickly. I have also been able to just drop large outgoing packages which already have postage on them printed online to an empty counter to the left instead of waiting in line. However, even in that case, if you're able to give them a couple minutes, they will gladly give you a receipt for your drop-off if you wait for one of the open counters. It's always clean in here. They have greeting cards, gift cards, padded envelopes, and mailing supplies available for sale. The always ask what type of stamps you prefer if you are purchasing books or sheets. While the counter area closes at 5 during the week, and I believe noon on Saturdays, the lobby is open 24/7 so that you can drop letters and smaller parcels in the indoor slots anytime or check your PO BOX if you happen to have one. My one real complaint is that the blue box outside around the corner of the building hasn't been reliable for me thus far. Everything I have dropped in that box either never made it to its destination or took a month. I just take everything inside now to be on the safe side. Tina is the best. It's always a pleasure when she's working the front counter or happens to be the one answering the phone. She's made pickup of my missed deliveries, etc. easy for me by having my mail waiting for me in a bundle at the front. This is definitely one of the better post offices I have ever used.

With that being said, it's disappointing that the staff often moves at such a slow speed regardless of the number of people in line. Without exaggeration, I've seen lines of customers out the door on several occasions, with no apparent reaction or sense of urgency on the employees' part. This location has an automatic postal machine (APC), which I'm sure was installed to help alleviate customer wait times, but this location really could stand to have two APC machines. It seems that many customers not wanting to wait in the long lines trickle over to the APC, and it further seems that a good percentage of those customers have never used one before, which makes the "efficiency" of the APC a moot point when you're waiting for slow employees AND slow first-time APC users. My bottom line recommendation is that if you must mail something here, come after-hours (this location is open 24 hours) and use the APC. You'll get a lot more done, a heck of a lot faster.

When I think about what a a good deal it is compared with UPS and Fedex, there is just no comparison. The Priority is an excellent deal and their tracking and e-mail notification really help me easily let the customer know where the package is. Yay Brookston Post Office! Save your local Post Office! PEOPLE BEWARE! Fed Ex and the USPS accept no responsibility if they deliver your package to the…read morewrong address. I have had this happen twice now and it is like dealing with dolts. It is their policy to "assume" that you, the consumer, have received the package and they refuse to look into it any further. I have had no problem with UPS and suggest you use them to ship & receive packages whenever possible. UPS has GREAT customer service! I, also, suggest that any time you do not receive a package FedEx and USPS say they delivered, that you file a formal complaint with each entity, call the store from which you purchased your item(s) and suggest the store use UPS instead. Then file a formal charge with your Police Department--even if the officers have a dismissive tone. Thievery is thievery...even if a package is incompetently mis-delivered.
