I am a "Professional Hacker" by job title, so when I saw that there was a robotics school that my…read morekid could go to less than ten miles away from our home in Woodland Hills I jumped at the opportunity. I showed my son a few videos from the buildcoolrobots.com page and his eyes lit up. I thought to myself "We may have a winner". After his first class/demo my kid was hooked. As a "Geek Father" I must admit I had a tear (of joy) in my eye as well as he told me "Daddy I love it". Speaking with Stan (the man) to get a feel for his "savvy" I was extremely pleased at his skill level and more importantly how he related with the kids in the classes. The kids love Stan! I could barely get uninterrupted time to speak with him. The kids were relentless with their enthusiasm for either completing a "Mission" or asking for a little help with their robots "code". This impressed me even more. My son began his journey the beginning of Summer 2013, attending classes eight times a month. In that short amount of time he has gone from an interest in computers to developing code and furthermore being excited about it. My sons enthusiasm spans even further from the classroom as (per Stans guidance for me and my kid begging me) I have purchased everything he needs to develop at home. With that being said, I have gone to my sons room on a few Saturday mornings to find my son NOT playing Xbox but instead programming on his laptop telling me "Daddy I almost completed this mission, look at this"! If you are looking for somewhere your kid can learn skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives, I highly recommend that you enroll them at Great Minds Robotics. Neither you or your kid will be disappointed.

Eh, it's a pass for me. This camp is run by a bunch of middle and high school kids. My SIX year old…read moredaughter came home and said "this (drink) has 0 calories - that's good because calories make you have a big stomach. That's what the counselors at school said". I was LIVID. She also came home upset about the kids bullying her and the counselors did nothing about it. After care is literally a movie in a storage room - I also walked in on the babysitter yelling at my daughter. Again, livid. The straw that broke the camels back was I forgot to pay for lunch for the week (but thought I did) - they didn't even feed my kid and bill me later (which would've been the humane thing to do). My daughter was bored - Spark is worksheets, and the extra fee for arts and crafts/drawing was them tracing and building crafts we could do at home.

I wouldn't recommend this camp. It was run by inexperienced people and my daughter had a pretty…read moreserious injury on her eye that was not reported to me in a timely manner. When I complained to the staff about it and even the higher up's, they did not seem to care or offer any sort of explanation or guidance. We will never go back here again. I would be cautious about sending your child. We have had plenty of friends still send their kids after our experience and it was ok, but I wouldn't want to take the chance!

Using the MCreator app was fine. Okay, I get it, it's visual and teaches simple concepts. But the instructor (maybe a college or high school student) was not an expert on it, was managing 10 kids in two different classes, seemed distracted, overworked, and sometimes on their phone. The quality of instruction was equivalent to a much cheaper program at the LA Parks, etc. My child specifically and kindly said to the instructor, "I love coding. May I learn more?" But this was not really heard. Most of the kids played Minecraft all day (9AM - 3:30PM), except during the breaks outside. But there was not much programming going on, just playing the game. My child stayed on task, tried to fix issues during the "tests" (a Minecraft Modding term), but found it hard to get assistance, except once or twice the entire day, each day. They did a little bit of Scratch coding one day. For the price this program costs, go to Asteme nearby and take their coding class, where there are professional, full-time teachers and the instruction is worth every penny. My child was so disappointed, because they had begged me to take this class. Code Rev management shouldn't punish this instructor. They should revamp the way they train instructors, pay them more so they can hire better ones, develop a half-page syllabus with an organized curriculum, let parents see it during registration, and not call this a coding class, unless there is coding. How about a little more Scratch even? If we wanted to play video games all day for 5 days, it would've been cheaper to go to Dave & Busters with friends. I should've listened to the negative reviews when I signed up. There is no care or respect for the real intellectual curiosity of the students. They think kids just want to play video games all day, and I don't think this is true for most (at least some) of the kids. But when this is what you're handed, your curious, enthusiastic child feels crushed. Do better Code Rev or reduce your prices in half and bill this more as daycare. (I rarely, if ever, write reviews, because who has the time? Also, I want to support small businesses or the franchisee. But this was just too disappointing. To prevent other parents and kids from making the same mistake, I had to say something. )

When I went to pick her up, the group (including the instructor) looked like zombies staring at their computers... no acknowledgement I was even there as I'm looking for my child in a sea of office chairs. I'm willing to take my daughter's claim that she didn't learn anything new and was told she could just "play in her Minecraft world" all day with a grain of salt, because there's probably more to it than that. But she did confirm that there was no outdoor play and that she sat in the same seat for five hours. Overall, she called it "boring." I give it a few stars because they kept my kid safe, but we won't be going back.

The teachers--Miss Danika, Miss Jennifer, Miss Stephanie, Miss Evelyn, Miss Sarah, and many others--were all very sweet to him. They took such good care of him and always made him feel special. We loved the good balance of indoor activities like art and play, along with plenty of outdoor time on their nice playground, including soccer. They put on fun events like the foam party, summer water play, a recent petting zoo, and trunk or treat. Special touches included root beer floats with dads on Father's Day and muffins with moms on Mother's Day. Our son made lots of friends there, and we always felt he was safe thanks to the video cameras on the app and the secure sign-in and sign-out process. They also offered parent night outs with movies and cookie baking, which gave us a couple of date nights. The food was good with breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and the kids sang songs together. We're so grateful for the care and joy he received, and we'll miss this place as he heads off to TK.
