We've had a wonderful experience with Master Sung and all of the instructors in our 5-year-old…read moreson's Taekwondo class. He really enjoys going, and it's clear that Master Sung genuinely cares about his students and their development. He does a great job of making the classes fun and engaging while also teaching important skills like discipline, strength, flexibility, and self-defense. I really appreciate the positive environment he creates and the way he connects with the kids. I would highly recommend his class to any family looking for a great activity for their child!

Master Sung is an extraordinary instructor. He teaches with a deep sense of respect--offering it first, not demanding it--and it creates an atmosphere where discipline feels meaningful and uplifting rather than intimidating. He carries himself as though it's an honor for him to teach you, and that attitude naturally inspires students to give their best. Before my class, I regularly see him working with the younger children. His patience is consistent and genuinely admirable. He is fully present, correcting form, encouraging effort, and managing different skill levels at the same time with ease. Every student gets attention, and every child is treated with care and dignity. Each adult class is unique, thoughtfully structured, and creatively taught. Master Sung keeps us engaged, challenged, and progressing while still making the learning experience fun. The black belts who help run his classes share the same respectful, supportive spirit--they treat helping you as an honor, and you can feel that sincerity. I've truly enjoyed my time at USTT. If you're a parent looking for a school where your child will be guided with patience, respect, structure, and authentic martial arts values, USTT is exceptional. And as an adult student, I can say the teaching is every bit as inspiring.

As a veteran living with PTSD, trust is something I have to earn carefully. Before I enrolled,…read moreMaster Kim told me that he and his brothers had spent many years training U.S. Army soldiers in South Korea. As a veteran, hearing that mattered to me. It made me believe I was placing my trust in someone who understood veterans, integrity, and honor. Unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. I prepaid for a three-month Kendo program. When I enrolled, I was told I would not need a uniform for four to six months and that protective gear would come even later. Within two weeks I was being told to buy a uniform, and by the third week I was being pressured to prepay for an entire year. Those broken promises immediately raised concerns, and I stopped training after about three weeks. After months of repeated follow-ups and having to go to the dojo in person, my uniform was finally ordered. When it arrived, I was told it had been given to someone else--even though I had already paid for it. I was also promised a partial refund in March. That refund never came. I later returned to try to complete the training I had already paid for, but the class was disorganized. Students were unsure of forms, and even basic equipment was forgotten during instruction. I walked out. For most people, this may sound like a dispute over money. For me, it wasn't. As a veteran with PTSD, I trusted Master Kim because of what he told me about training U.S. Army soldiers. Instead, I experienced repeated broken promises, constant pressure to spend more money, and commitments that were never honored. That experience severely triggered my PTSD and sent me into one of the darkest periods of my life. The emotional impact became so overwhelming that I reached out to the Department of Veterans Affairs for professional mental health care because I was afraid of where I was heading. I cannot say what Master Kim intended. I can only describe what happened to me and the impact it had on my life. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this dojo. If you are considering training here, ask detailed questions, get every financial commitment in writing, and carefully consider whether this is the kind of business you want to trust.

They go a bit beyond and promote citizenship and responsibility as well. I think the owner, master Ben really enjoys his craft and seeing kids grow into it. His level of patience is phenomenal. I'm not sure where his competition levels and accolades are at, but regardless his love and dedication for the sport are what's important. It took my eldest (now 6) almost 2 years to get promoted from white. I initially thought, wtf? They're trying to milk it. But I realized it wasn't that. He wasn't ready at the time (3yrs old) and it would've only held him back as he's progressing Thru the belts. He's now doing pretty well (could do better w more practice at home). My now 3yo was given his first belt pretty quickly and is seemingly lagging behind his brothers progression, but everything ought to come in due time. The one thing that astounds me is Master Ben knows each and every student by name. How he could memorize 100+ active students by name, and know their siblings/cousins as well only goes to show his level of dedication to his craft.
