I was a USAA customer for 30 years, but no longer. I checked my car insurance rates with 5 other top level companies and none were as high as the predators at USAA. I saved fully half when switching to a top rated firm. That means USAA was 100% more expensive than my current provider. I begged them to be competitive, even sending them the competitive quote. They responded by challenging me and suggested that I somehow wasn't being truthful. Seriously! In 30 years, I NEVER had a claim. I'm the perfect insurance customer - except for USAA. The thing that really irritates is that they do this to our service men and women who deserve every concession and consideration. Avoid USAA, save money and don't support these predators. Buyer beware!! If you think you are purchasing "Roadside-Assistance" from USAA, YOU ARE NOT! You are actually purchasing "Roadside-Insurance". Unlike having a AAA membership and using their services, when you use USAA "Roadside-Assistance," you are actually initiating and INSURANCE claim that is reported as such. Meaning...when you seek quotes from other insurance companies, the quote will reflect your driving record and ALL the "claims" filed with USAA. However, at NO TIME when they enroll you into their "Roadside-Assistance" (Insurance), do they inform you that it generates an "insurance claim." They are misleading customers, and should be sanctioned! I served my country with pride and sustained injuries doing so. I hit a vehicle that ran a stop sign and the driver is insured through USAA. USAA accepted all liability. This occurred on the 25th of July and the total loss department hasn't returned any of my calls or messages left. The only department that had is the medical claims department and he kept telling me that he can't help me get in contact with them. It's clear why. They're job is to take as little of a loss as possible. What they did was low ball me on the value of my car, sent me a letter to accept the value which is $3,500 lower than the comps they listed, and not answer any of my phone calls to force me to accept the ridiculous value they listed my vehicle at. Problem for them is I don't need money to buy a vehicle. So I bought a new Truck and retained an attorney. My attorney calls me today and says that after a week and a half she hasn't received any correspondence of any type from USAA. I call my insurance company and ask them to help and they call a week later and say after all their messages they haven't received any contact with USAA. What a crap company. They ignore you to try to force people's hands that don't have great credit or money to be able to purchase a vehicle without accepting a lowball figure for their vehicle. USAA has had my back for insurance for years, so I was happy to try them for an auto loan. Huge mistake. It has now been three weeks of paperwork drama because the company has issued me the wrong paperwork for the wrong state, issued me the wrong paperwork for the kind of car I bought, and lost documents I sent via fed ex and had tracking info for. The dealership even called them to complain and find a fix, but there is absolutely no institutional memory in the loans department (every time you call a new customer service rep tells you something different or can't find your old issue ticket). They apologize profusely each time, but still make ridiculous errors, like writing on their internal paperwork the car is used vs. new, having it registered in wrong state, etc etc. Truly awful experience so far. read more

Dishonest, predatory and opportunistic. Constantly trying to engage in profiteering by arranging transactions in a manner that allows the bank to maximize the opportunities for collecting overdraft fees, and returned ACH fees. Hold policy on mobile deposits is absolutely ridiculous. For example, deposit a check of $1100. Initially the bank holds $600 while they "verify the availability" of the funds from the check writer. Yes, even on payroll checks that are easily verifiable. But, wait! It gets worse! They'll later increase the hold from $600 to $900 without notifying you or providing any plausible justification for it when you call them out on it. And why, might you ask, would they do this? Simple; to profit off of you. They're increasing the possibility that you'll withdraw more than they're making available. After all , you thought you had $500 available at first, remember? So, you maybe pay some bills and spend a total of $260, for example. Woohoo! Overdraft charges! USAA is all too quick to pounce and profits off your gullibility!!! Even better? They bold face lie to you and say it's your fault! They can't refund you the fees because they don't want to. But they'll spin it like it's just impossible and scold you for believing you had unheld money to spend. Truth is, they can refund their dishonest fees and release holds whenever they want. They just don't to increase their profits. And I'm sure an executive will deny this up down and sideways and spin these shady practices like it's the consumers fault. But, honestly, we had a chance to opt out of NACHA, the agency which makes wire transfers and other ACH transactions take forever in 2014 in favor of a system that allows same day debits, credits and wire transfers. It's how the rest of the world outside America operates. The big banks here opted not to because they feared an exponential rise in potential fraud claims and decreased profits from the loss of NSF charges. And USAA is the worst in this regard. The reason for only 2 stars is as a result of the branch closings USAA has undergone in the last 2 years. Who wants a bank where the nearest place to deposit cash is more than 45 minutes away. They used to have a location approximately 5 minutes away from the Pentagon. That location closed last year and now the ATM (where you could make deposits) closed this month. You have the largest military contingency in this area and you close your doors...this is beyond ridiculous!!! I will definitely look for other banking options. I was really excited about USAA finally having a physical location near me but when I went there, although the woman was friendly, they only deposit cash through the ATM and couldn't do a bank transfer to a non-USAA account, I have to do it online. I've been a member for 15 years and have had to file 3 or so claims since then. USAA customer service is top notch and I would venture to say that you'd be hard pressed to find another company with employees as awesome as they are. When I owned my first two homes, USAA always was the company I had my home insurance and personal property insurance through. Their rates are so much cheaper than other companies. If you qualify to be a member (you or a family member must have served in the armed forces), you should check out their rates. You can't find cheaper auto insurance either. One star off for not having banking branches/ATM's everywhere. I've only ever seen one bank and it was at West Point, NY. You can however, download their app or go to a UPS Store to deposit checks, and they do refund your ATM surcharges when you use other banks, which is unheard of these days. read more

We weren't thinking of getting a new car anytime soon but who can say no to a 2% interest rate score. When the bf had a car accident they were prompt and courteous and my bf car looked brand spanking new. Also since I'm a student they give me a reduction on my car insurance AWWWesome. Its very close to the Naval Academy like a stones throw away...and located in the middle of downtown annapolis! The staff was nice helpful and helped me quickly and efficiently to take care of all my banking needs. I live in crofton and this was alot closer than going to arlington! They pay out 3/4 of the losses incurred by a customer. The diminution in value claim review resulted in a an assessment of my loss equal to $1176 provided to me on the 25 September 2019. I strongly disagree with this assessment. 1. The foremost factor is that my vehicle has an accident on its title, before the accident it had a clear title. 2. My vehicle is an electric vehicle that has a lithium-ion battery in the rear portion of the car, where the impact took place. 3. Carmax has appraised my vehicle at $20000. Additionally, 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Premium with similar mileage and most importantly a clear title costs $24998. 4. The original USAA representative, who I talked to at the time of the accident, assured me that my vehicle will be restored to the original condition that it was in prior to the accident. I want a vehicle with a clear title and I would have to incur additional expenses such as 6% Maryland sales tax, $299 dealer fees, and approximately $329 MVA registration fees. 5. The numbers indicate that the loss in value that I have incurred is equal to: $24998 - $20000 + 6% MD tax + $299 + $329 = (approximately) $5925.88. read more

Trying to communicate with USAA over the phone is basically impossible these days. You have to know at least 5 different codes or else they won't help you. So of course you have to take that information with you wherever you go, and also make sure all your emergency contacts likewise know that information or else USAA will not help you. Did you know that? You better because if you can't call them, most likely none of your emergency contacts will be able to reach them. But of course they call you any time, but once they reach you, they won't tell you why they are calling until you answer those 5 questions. Absolutely ridiculous. Also, just try to email them, oops, they don't have email. If you get an email from them and try to reply to it it bounces right back as undeliverable. There is no email listed anywhere on their website that you can use to reach them, but they will email you all the time. A one way communication that exemplifies their substandard customer service. Do a Google search on USAA complaints, and you won't believe your eyes. Page after page of horror stories. And no response from USAA on how they are making all these things right. read more

USAA motto: the insurance company that caters to military member should change to the insurance company most likely to take advantage of the military member. As a military member, I have been insured with USAA for over 20 years. After purchasing a home over 6yrs ago we experienced one of our most devastating lost, a flood in our home. My family (to include my pets) were suddenly without living quarters, you cannot imagine the horror but can only hope that in starting the rebuild process your insurance company will guide you through the process. That was not the case with USAA. I was seriously disappointed in the assistance me and my family received over a 6-month journey that continue with no end in sight. We've dealt with rude, unconcerned USAA adjusters, substandard contractors, failed payment in a timely manner to USAA to contractors (causing work stoppage). We have also experienced denial payment for living expenses, utility etc. Initially we depended on USAA to relocate our family. WE contacted their contractor ALE who did nothing for us. USAA contractor ALE was not capable. After several calls, with limited to no choices (ALE office is in Utah, we live in the DMV). ALE had no idea what communities existed in our area or what we needed as a family with pets. We were forced to find a place to stay/movers, to move the few things we needed ourselves. USAA did reimburse us for the move. during the rebuild/displacement we never met USAA adjuster. He never came out, never gave us any direction or information concerning the process: what we were entitled to what to expect from USAA or its preferred contractors. To add insult to injury, USAA preferred contractor were outstandingly expensive. over $60,000. dollars were issued out for cloths dry cleaning. I did not know I had sixty-thousand-dollar worth of clothing items. Over $80,000. dollars were issued to USAA contractor Capezio. Evidence of Capezio substandard work existed throughout the home, bad mudding/taping to the replaced drywall, water damaged drywall painted over, no prepping was done so paint was applied to dust and dirty walls. door knobs, hinges, electrical plates curtain hooks etc. were painted over, molding put in place that looked warped or uneven. Even after addressing my concerns with the contractor as well as USAA adjuster the work continued as if the discrepancies did not exist. I later reached out to USAA office, hoping to be heard. there I was given options when having issues with the work that was done. Again, my assigned USAA adjuster never came out to look at the work or address the contractor in any way and we were 6 months into a job that was to take 3 months. Although monies were free flowing to USAA contractors, that was not the case for me and my family. while displaced from our home, monies were denied for minor living expenses, $600.00 for food due to the initial loss. buying items, the first month inside the temporary housing USAA adjuster denied the cost. I continued to pay the mortgage on my home and all its utilities. but I also had the cover the co utilities at the rental apartment. I was also forced to pay the rent a couple of times at the apartment when USAA failed to submit payment in a timely manner. this reminded me of the commercial where the couple talks about dipping into their savings because their insurance company doesn't completely cover their loss. I've had two adjusters since the loss six months ago. The first adjusted failed to make payments on time, denied me and my family minor living expenses and was unavailable. he didn't work with us to find housing or address any issues with USAA preferred contractor (we caught on camera the 1st contractor South Rivers, letting people come in and out of our home who were part of the company. we also saw the person inside the home after hours). USAA adjuster never investigated the matter when we brought it to his attention. The second adjuster was just as bad, only he comes with an attitude. must be the training. this USAA adjuster was abrasive in getting his point across when denying payment. I guess he felt, if I'm fearful I'm less likely to ask for what I am entitled to as an insured member...USAA Yet the large sums of monies given out to their preferred contractors without questioning/inspecting the paperwork for cost or to see if the work was done to specification. but that's not the case when money is to be issued to the insurer. USAA will deny the smallest amount and its motto is "Cater to the military member", right. read more

When I called to get an explanation I was transfered SIX TIMES before I made someone talk to me. Incompetent employees who don't know what their job is. I took my SUV to Safelight based on my insurance (USAA) preferred customer referral. The work done on the shattered back window (hatch back) was done fast and sloppy. I took the SUV in around 12pm. I got a call from Safelite receptionist at 2pm stating that the SUV was done. I arrived close to 5pm, paid in full and picked up the vehicle. Upon inspecting the glass I noticed the large puckles and opening around/between the glass and the rubber. I brought it to the technician's attention as he was closing and asked him not to close but to look at the vehicle. He continued closing the store, set the alarm and came out. He looked at the openings/puckles around the window and stated "that's your vehicle it's warped and there was nothing we can do about it". I pointed to the open rubber around the window that was not sealed to the glass. He got in his vehicle and began to start it up to leave. I started taking pictures of the incorrect work done on the window. Noticing this, he then offered to work on the window the following day. The following day I called for the status on the SUV and was told it was ready for pick up. I asked if they fixed it. The receptionist stated "they did the best that they could do." and I knew it wasn't fixed. When I picked up the SUV, the seal on the window (hatchback) looked terrible, bubbly and out of sync. In addition the lock would not catch on the widow. I asked to speak to the manager who stated "that was the best that he could do." He was unwilling to work toward correcting the problem or refund my money. I called my insurance company USAA and was connected to their window department, a different section within the company. I was transferred to what was referred to as the executive part of the glass company. Then I learned that the glass company within USAA was Safelite. This sort of explained the manager's arrogant attitude when I said I would contact my insurance agency...he was like, so. The executive section offered to come out to see if they could to fix the window. They also offered to contact the manager in order for me to talk to him. I'd already talked to the manager and found no solution. It had been two days. I just wanted my money back so that I could take my vehicle where I knew it would be fixed properly, they refused. Thanksgiving was the following day and my plans to drive the SUV out of town were ruined. Sick, I couldn't discuss the matter any further. I won't ever use Safelite again or depend solely on USAA insurance company for recommendation without researching the company first. I prefer a job well done over a rush job that is done sloppy and incorrectly. read more

The absolute worst service I've ever had from a credit card company. While trying to sort out a fraudulent charge on my account I've spent countless hours on the phone, first waiting to even speak to someone, then being transferred from department to department and it's never the right person to speak with about the problem. After three months of phone calls, filing affidavits, etc., this charge is still on my bill and I have to make even more phone calls to another department. As soon as this matter is finally resolved I will cancel this card and never do credit card business with them again.
