We have had this company unfortunately since 2006, for our auto and homeowners. We have had 3 claims all of which we had to fight them for and threaten to involve our lawyer. We have been in our current house for 3 years and have just had to make a claim for water damage and electrical damage all of which the restoration company they sent out supported and had to fight for our claim as well. You aren't able to get ahold of the adjusters and they are shady on what specific work to be done. Shame on this company for falsely claiming to support military families, we have never been supported by this ratchet insurance. Only given push back every time. read more

This (USAA BANK) business will take your money and present itself as an electronic bank but not send you timely notices and caused me to incur an early termination fee of over $2000 because they did not notify me that a CD had renewed until one day after the grace period had ended, and I called immediately (within minutes!) so they should've notified me the day it renewed not the day after the grace period was over. They say they notified me one month ahead of time that it was going to renew but after that no reminder. There was no timely way to respond or change and just for reference, the current rate for a 15 month CD is 4.0% from some institutions with the 15 month term and they were offering me 1.6%. No wonder they didn't notify me until after they legally have to make Noah accommodation. It's dishonest and immoral. Don't do business with them. I have several cars and multiple homes insured with them and I expect more from a relationship like that. 4 years ago, I was trying to take a home loan using VA loan. The agent was pretentious and asked me for $10k. The loan was $480k, and I know how the offers work and I had the money for down payment. My credit was 700+. She was really insistent and me having more money... for some weird reason. She was not helpful and creates a ton of bureaucratic excuses. Because of her BS, I went with another lender who was familiar with VA loan, and they were so helpful. All I can say is that don't even try to borrow from USAA. They suck. After being a loyal customer with 8 accounts across banking and insurance, we are pulling every single one due to USAA's complete lack of integrity and refusal to take responsibility for their own employee's mistake. Here's what happened:3 months ago, I applied online for a Performance First Savings Account with a $200 promotional incentive. The application errored out after progressing to the signature page, so I had to call them for help. The agent said she could clearly see my pending applications -- but instead of completing them, she opened an entirely new (and incorrect) account so she could get the commission. Every manager I spoke to this week (over the course of 3 wasted hours!) admitted this was wrong. One even said, "I don't understand why the employee did that." Despite every manager agreeing it was USAA's mistake when looking at the whole process, the formal complaint "review team" denied the $200 promotion because I didn't say the exact account name on the call -- even though it was visible in their system! Their choice? To lose two lifetime customers and 8 accounts rather than simply doing the right thing. We had multiple insurance products and thousands in savings parked with them (which, by the way, banks need deposits to fund loans so banks are ALWAYS trying to increase how much they have in Deposits in Savings and Checking). Make this make sense!!!! They threw away ALL of it away over $200 -- not because they were right, but because they're rigidly glued to policy instead of integrity. I point blank called them out on this. You really want to lose ALL of this over $200? Their policy says yes. Even when their manager agrees it makes NO sense! After reading other reviews, I now see this isn't an isolated incident -- it's a pattern of dishonesty and short-sightedness across their organization. This bank is ridiculous. We have been customers for 39 years and now out of the blue they hold my deposit of $500 for seven days for no reason.. I transferred $500 from a bank in my current city to USAA every two weeks and now all the sudden there's a whole transfer for for the $500 which by the way it's supposed to cover my mortgage and now my mortgage won't go through. I'm so disappointed with how things are being handled with this bank. My husband has had multiple fraudulent charges on his account. The agents in bankers were very kind over the phone and are apparently undergoing investigation and getting him refunded. Understandably this can take quite a bit of time. In the meantime, we did all of the necessary precautions, all the way to the point of changing email passwords, getting a new account number, new cards, etc. We thought we were in the clear- then over the last few weeks while we have been busy tending to a death in the family and a serious health condition, my husband has had another $20,000 of fraudulent charges. His entire account was wiped out with multiple withdrawals from different states and countries. I do not understand how the bank lets this happen. I have Wells Fargo and if I travel outside of my hometown to Hawaii and order an Uber, wells blocks it, and they have to call me to verify that it's me. This is normal policy, and I don't have fraud alerts on my accounts. Yet my husband has a history of fraudulent charges with this account, and is told it will be watched closely, yet they allowed multiple withdrawals without double checks from different countries and states within days of each other? WTF! This is supposed to be one of the top-notch banks for security and service, being a military bank, and my husband's service both as a firefighter and in the military. I can't even tell you the distress this is causing our family, plus we now have no money until we get paid again. The fact that it has been happening over and over again is starting to make me think it's something on the inside with the bank. Needless to say there will not be any more direct deposits or money going into the account. We are hopeful that things will be resolved because this is a lot of money for our family. I will say my husband says that everyone has been very kind on the phone, however, I'm not sure how helpful they actually are because things have been getting worse not better. USAA is not a well run company. Both insurance (expensive) and financial management are subpar. They used to manage my finances until they sold that business to Schwab. I had renters insurance with them. A fire sweep into my apartment. Rather than assist me with my claim they sent an investigator to see if I set the fire. Today I wanted to add a biller to my checking account. I ran into a road block using their "chat" interface. It was ineffective. No AI. If you're a senior officer they jump to service you, otherwise you're on your own. read more

Terrible communication. Worst car loan experience I have ever had. Took 4 days to close the loan. 8 days later, money had not arrived at the dealer. Salesman said he had never had a transaction drag on this long. NEVER received notice of a problem. Every time I called, it was a new/different isssue. I had USAA for years and so does everyone in my family. When my mother passed, I struggled to make payments for a bit because I'm disabled. I missed a few payments and my auto insurance got canceled. No notification of it being canceled either. I got an overdue notice and that was it, no notification whatsoever when it actually ended! I tried to get a quote just now after not having it for a couple months, and they told me I was ineligible because I had a lapse in coverage and accidents on my record (which were there before the coverage ended). I explained the situation and ZERO effort was made to resolve the issue. They simply said USAA policy renders me ineligible "at this time". We have had a USAA credit card since the early 2000's. No issues at all until recently. We had a large $4,400 charge to Van Cleefs on our card which was not ours. We never received an email or text confirmation before payment as we would expect for an online transaction out of state. We brought it to USAAs attention and after investigation they showed someone signing for it that was not our signature or name and they said it was a legitimate purchase. Please do not sign up for a credit card with them if you are expecting them to protect your purchases or do a thorough investigation when there is an issue. My credit card was compromised so I contacted USAA to cancel it and send me a replacement. They offered expedited delivery for a $20 charge. Since this is my only card I paid this. Expedited delivery was 1-3 days and normal is 4-7 days. This was on September 19. I got an email and the card was sent out the 24th and is expected to arrive the 27th. When I contacted them they said they would return the $20. I explained I didn't care about the $20, this was my only credit card and wanted the card for emergencies. They didn't seem very interested. I have been a customer for 49 years and with the combined homeowners policy and my cars I pay right at $10,000 a year premiums . Needless to say I will be looking at other options. read more

USAA has the worse policies in place. I escelated a call about my checking account I have had for well over 25 years. The person that my call was given too refused to help and said there was noting they could do. When I asked to speak to their boss I received the response, "managers don't take calls and don't return calls." He then documented my complaint and when I asked who got the complaint I told that they spot check them. I then asked will I get a call back at that point and was told no. I have been a member for 16+ years and up until now I would have given a them a better rating but with the most recent issues and problems that have happened I won't rate them with 1. I had 2 unauthorized ACH come to my account for 5K in a 2 day period. The second got resolved and credited immediately for 2K. But I am fighting with them to issue my credit or refund of 3K for the other dispute. They keep telling me they are working on it and keep telling how sorry there are for this. Well fix it so I can pay my bills. They don't care about ruining my credit rating or with your creditors. I have redone my direct deposits to my local bank because I don't trust USAA with my funds. So if your reading this please don't give USAA a chance. They got a "F" rating from the BBB so that should tell you how they do business. What happened to USAA? AWFUL Customer service and care! We have been loyal members for over 30 years! Our car is still sitting in a storage lot - 12 days later. Jannelle B. has completely ignored us; no communication. She does not call us back not even when she said she would. She doesn't represent the company well and has cost them money by letting our car sit in a storage lot. They have had to pay almost two weeks of storage fees. Why? The notes say she can't reach the lot. I called them at 7:30 pm on a Monday night and they picked up. I called them on a Tuesday morning at 11 am and they picked up. I merged USAA in the call. Her negligence has caused us so much anxiety. We need our car for work and to support the family. Day 13 without a car and without it even being towed to the body shop (body shop will probably take 2 to 3 weeks to repairs). She did not follow up with them or with us at all. She is definitely not the professional or the "Senior Adjustor" she titles herself to be. USAA hire the best to take care of the people who have been loyal to you for so many years--shame on you! USAA claims that to qualify for USAA membership, you must have an immediate relative who is a currently active in the Armed Services or a veteran. What they fail to mention in their advertising is that the relative must be ALREADY a member or must JOIN USAA to qualify. That's a big omission! It's false advertising to say you can join, but neglect to say only if the veteran joins. In my case my father is deceased, so uneligible to join even though I am an immediate family member. And after reading so many negative reviews, I don't think I would join now. It's just sneaky to omit eligibility issues that are required. read more

USAA was not only horrible throughout the home-buying process (see previous review) but they also have terrible roadside assistance. I was a member of AAA many years ago - before I got married - and I was always impressed with their service. When I marred into the USAA family I decided to get rid of AAA and use USAA's roadside assistance. WOW. Big mistake. Unfortunately I've had the need to use roadside assistance many times - I commute 25 miles to work via the interstate, and I've had my fair share of fender benders and blown tires. My first experience with them came when I was in a car accident on I-95 and USAA told me I could ride with the tow truck driver. When the tow driver arrived he told me it was against policy to ride with them. I should have known at that moment that USAA Roadside was not all it was cracked up to be. The straw that broke the camel's back came a few weeks ago when my car door latch broke and I had to get it towed to the shop for the repair. It took SIX HOURS for a tow to ultimately arrive. TWICE our tow was cancelled without notice, and had we not been monitoring the status on the app we would have kept waiting and waiting and waiting. A few weeks before this incident I had a blowout on I-95 in a very precarious location and USAA gave me lots of mis-information about the tow company they dispatched to me. First they said it'd take an hour - that was not the case. Then they said I could track the status of my tow using a link they texted to me - but the tow company said the link was completely useless, they don't use it, and they've told USAA to stop distributing it to people. Bottom line - you get what you pay for. After waiting 6 hours this past time for a tow, I cancelled USAA roadside and signed back up for AAA. This is not an isolated incident - each time I've used their roadside assistance there has been SOME sort of drama. You've been warned! read more

Overall USAA has been hit & miss. Really depends on who we're working with. I was a passenger in a car accident. The person who hit us was uninsured, so my friends insurance, Geico, and USAA split the claim. The Geico rep was in constant contact with me, communicating and negotiating on my behalf. My USAA rep did virtually NOTHING. However, A year later my son was in an accident & his USAA rep took GREAT car of him. At 21, My 2nd son was quoted $1,400/yr +/- by other insurance providers ( even tho he has a clean record and drove a 2001 Yukon) USAA is providing GREAT coverage for 1k annually. They also took care of me when I had renters insurance claims - but again - it was a bit of a fight. I had 3 different adjusters. 2 were HORRIBLE, the one in the middle was SUPER helpful & told me of coverage I didn't even realize I had. Finally, I just moved to Annapolis, MD. I have a loyalty to USAA bank that rivals anyone's loyalty to their college basketball team. Over last 12 years, they have helped finance or support my car insurance, mortgage, car loans, and investments. I am so loyal in fact I refuse to enroll in a standard bricks and mortar bank, and end up having to mail everything to their San Antonio office. USAA has very few physical locations, always by big bases far far away (ie. Ft. Hood) until now. Right by the US Naval Academy they opened up a full service banking location to service the academic midshipmen. I was so excited I raced in, and they gave me a tour and a goodie bag. Everyone in there was so friendly and happy, probably because they get to look at midshipman all day. Most long time USAA customers have complained that having a physical location to run and operate will not keep costs low, and midshipmen know how to use a computer for all their banking needs. Who cares, really? The place is filled with men in uniforms. Money and midshipman=two of the best things in life. read more

I've been with USAA banking for over 21 years and my husband has been with USAA for much longer. I have reservations about why I even use their banking services. My daughter went into the branch with my sister-in-law to deposit a US Funds check and they would not deposit it because they said it was a foreign check. The check is in US Funds not any other currency. They also wouldn't deposit her cash into her account and made her deposit it by the bank machine. They also wouldn't accept her bank rolled coins. You try calling the branch number and it takes you to the USAA 800 number. I've spent over an hour today, not to mention the time my daughter took yesterday to go down to the branch and the time I spent on the phone yesterday. I'm ready to cancel all of my accounts with USAA not to mention car, house insurance and investments. So insane! read more

It was worth the one-time trip. I am very upset with USAA. I have been an 8 year member. How does USAA allow someone to take 2 cashiers checks or tellers check whatever they call them against my account online without proper authentication via the phone or in person? I used to work at a bank and those were as good as cash and were only done face to face in person. They told me 2500 is the most someone can take out without calling in.
