Beware! The public parking next to it is not $3, it's $9.

Great service! They really get everything done well here. People are friendly but stern. Must make sure not to use your phone, they're really sharp in spotting people who have separation anxiety with their phones. Tips: Don't be fooled by the public parking next street, they're not $3! It's $9. I'm not happy with their sign!

I have to give this citizenship biometric service center a whopping 5 stars. It took 35 minutes from the second I walked in to the second I was complete and done with. There are absolutely no pictures allowed to be taken inside and security will check your phone to make sure it is off. Respect the rules to avoid any unnecessary problems. The center is kept very clean and the biometrics personnel seemed nice. This is a very important step towards achieving what probably every other person in the world wants; US citizenship. I wish every deserving person the best on this road since it is a privilege to attain such status. It is earned and given freely at will. The best to you!

First of all, I'll give you a little history last week, I went to the Van Nuys SDI office on…read moreThursday I arrived at 10:30 am I was added to a list on my phone. I was number 98. I asked the attendant if he had any idea how long it might be and he said approximately four hours. He said I was on the list and I could go sit in my car and they would call me when it was time for me to go to the lobby. I left the area in my car and did some errands. I went to check the list and but it was no longer accessible on my phone. . I assumed I was no longer on it. 5 1/2 hours later I got a notification text saying it was time for me to go to the lobby to get ready to go upstairs. By that time, I was across town and it was too far to venture back. There was PARKING behind the office. I parked there for five minutes while I checked in and it cost me two dollars. There isn't much information about the cost of parking. It is not owned by the city. It is a private lot so you might want to look for parking in the neighborhood. I said to the attendant there are two disability offices, right? Do you think it matters which one you go to and he said I think most everyone comes here. They don't go downtown. I decided to go to the downtown office. I had read it's a good idea to avoid Mondays because they're usually very busy. I took the advice of someone and went on a Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, I arrived later than I'd hope to I'd hoped to be there by 2:00 pm but arrived at 2:45. I'm only mentioning this because I was one of the last people seen that day. They close at 5 o'clock and if you're in line and they can't get you before then you'll have to come back another day. I would suggest going by 2:00 pm. You should be safe to be seen. There is parking in the building, but I would avoid it. I asked the parking attendant and he said if I was longer than an hour, it goes up really high and can go up to $46. I parked in a lot at the corner of flower and eighth at a flat rate of $15 downtown parking is expensive take transit if you can. The office was pretty organized. There was a holding room where you sat in chairs and they kept moving you up until it was your turn to get in line in the office. There were three employees working there each at a different station behind glass. That room smelled bad. It was carpeted the whole place smelled like sweaty men. I felt sorry for the employees working there. The carpet was stained. I don't know why there would be a carpet in there seems like a bad choice to me. The employees at this office were great for the most part and they seem to have it really down. They would ask people questions before they got in line in case they needed to deal with things in another way they were very courteous and they kept things moving they had a good system! There was a lot of people that needed help and they got them through pretty quickly. Be prepared if there's anything you might have to have mailed. PRINT it before you go. They don't send anything out online from that office. They only send it through the mail so make sure you go and print what you need sent out before you arrive. ALL IN ALL THE LINE MOVED PRETTY QUICKLY. THEY WERE FAR LESS PEOPLE AT THAT OFFICE AND THEY WERE IN VAN NUYS ALTHOUGH THAT COULD HAVE TO DO WITH THE DAY I WENT. DON'T PARK IN THE BUILDING IF YOU GO OVER AN HOUR IT'S GOING COST YOU A FORTUNE. Make sure you print anything you need before you go. They do not send any email correspondence from that office to any other part of the SDI system. Give yourself extra time to arrive there. It's quite busy downtown. The building is on the east side of Figueroa. They're all one-way street so if you miss the building, you'll be driving around in circles. Good luck to you! I hope this information helps!

Upon entering off Figueroa St you'll see two lines to your left, one for birth the other for death. The forms off to the right either for birth or death certificates. Once you complete your form you'll have two lines. Service is very quick I was in and out with the birth certificate in less than 10 minutes around 11am. Plan your day to avoid the LA traffic jam then enjoy your day in LA. Both parents do not need to be present to obtain a birth certificate. Parking available in the structure or street meter. If meter parking is available I suggest that one as you typically won't be there long. So if you live or pass away in LA this is a place you'll have to be at. Don't worry you won't wait in traffic like on the LA freeways at this spot. God bless

They ignore anonymous complaints. Even when not anonymous, they don't do their jobs. I reported…read morerats in my building ceiling (common shared indoor hallway ceiling) where you could see the foam tiles chewed away at almost every corner, and many round urine stains. I specifically reported that they were in the ceiling, I can hear them running in the evenings. The county inspector came over, notified the building manager days before coming, and said she saw nothing. Of course, the manager quickly replaced the foam tiles, painted them, patched them up and vaccuumed the floor. There were still signs - some urine stains and some chewed corners of tiles- but when I asked if she had seen that evidence, she said it was only in her "job description to look down for rat feces - not to look up." I was amazed... I asked specifically for her to look into rats living in a ceiling space and it's not in her job description to look up? What a sad excuse. It's disgusting that these employees don't do what's morally right, and they get paid big $. Why would you announce that you're going to do an inspection so the builing can hide their evidence? Why wouldn't you look up? You expect me to believe that there's a job description that says don't look up? or barely shift a tile to see the rat nests/feces? I offered to do this myself in her presence and she refused to come back for me to show her the feces. Tax money laundering at it's finest. What is the point of this department if no one does their job? Not even the supervisor cared when I called in. She could hardly speak English, and didn't care at all. Her job security is off the charts.

I was seen fairly quickly but likely due to my uncomplicated request. When I left near 12:30p, there was a line out the door with security limiting access inside due to capacity. Security kept the limit of people inside comfortable for everyone. I came at the perfect time, and recommend considering arriving before employees take their breaks for lunch. This location seems extremely busy, and long waits are likely common depending on your situation. With an ever revolving door of people coming in requesting help, employees look spent and over it. I don't blame them, but it was a little depressing once I was called. Most people waiting inside were in good spirits, but the energy of employees behind the glass were over it and again, I was gone by 12:30p. They probably get some out of pocket guests often. The welcome crew that guides and hands your numbers were in better spirits, they really do set the tone for everyone coming in. It can't be easy, so I appreciate everyone that made this experience so seamless.
