I had an outpatient procedure done there yesterday, March 5, 2026. From start to finish, it was seamless. From registration to release it could have not been better. The facility was excellent, but moreover, those dedicated people who cared for me were unsurpassed. Highly professional with just the right personal touch. Couldn't have been better. read more

The Emergency room was good and efficient at first but then they took our daughter to this very strange room in a transport chair and left her with no direction. When we asked what was happening we were told the Dr. was beep boopipng around he would look at her labs when he could. Then told another patient that it takes 6-8 hours to get a bed, unacceptable. They were caring for all patients in an open room , taking vitals, giving IV meds etc. Obviously they don't have enough beds, and resources. It will be interesting ting to see what the joint commission says about this. Knoxville needs a new hospital that is patient centric. read more

I will never bring another family member to UT Medical Center in Tennessee after our terrifying visit on June 28, 2026. This was the worst medical decision I have ever made. The emergency room staff's handling of my loved one's care was unacceptable and, in my opinion, put her life at serious risk.We repeatedly begged for a physician to evaluate her condition. Instead, we were told that a nurse practitioner would handle the situation. When I expressed my deep concerns and requested a doctor, the nurse practitioner flatly refused. She made it clear that she was in charge, that her decisions were final, and that my input as a family member was not valid. I felt completely dismissed and powerless.The overall attitude and level of care from the emergency room team was horrible. Communication was poor, our urgent concerns were ignored, and basic requests for proper medical oversight were denied. This experience left us feeling that patient safety and family input mean very little in their ER.I strongly believe the entire emergency department staff needs immediate retraining on patient advocacy, proper escalation to physicians, and respectful communication. Nurse practitioners should never be left without direct physician supervision in complex or high-risk cases. What happened here felt like malpractice, and it should never happen to another family.We are incredibly grateful my loved one survived this visit. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone in need of emergency care. My mom was at this hospital for 8 days.. being discharged with a horrible infection that started smelling the day after discharge.. they NEVER gave her antibiotics .. and left staples in her head for 8 days.. and discharged her with the staples in her head.. she NEVER had a doctor look at her before being discharged even thought family members requested it.. read more

The last time I brought my mom her it was great but we had to come back a week later because they sent her home still septic and this time they placed us in the ats waiting room and have already been here for 5 hours now waiting they have her n other patients hooked up to iv's in this extremely small waiting room its packed shoulder to shoulder and they r coming out taking peoples blood right on top of other people no cleanliness or nothing of any kind they even had me have someone bring my mothers medication up her n give it to her myself because they couldn't give it to her yet because they don't know if they r going to admit her or not and again she is still septic from a week ago when they sent her home that way smdh? Had to go to the ER at UT Medical Center yesterday, andI was in and out in just over an hour. It was so easy to check in and get registered. All of the staff were very friendly and professional. I have never had such a great experience in an ER. They are 5 Stars across the board. read more

12/8/26 - worst experience ever. Arrived at ER at 5:45 with 80yr old with brain bleed. At 6:31 am, 1/9/26 we are still sitting in the ER waiting for a room! We seen the ER fill up and empty out for the most part twice. They say they have NO beds available in the entire hospital. If you do not have beds for patients DO NOT ACCEPT PATIENTS. This is ridiculous. They should have turned the ambulance away so we could have gone to another hospital that would actually help. I've always thought UT was a good hospital but now I have a different option. The nursing staff this particular night was awful. Mom had to have spine surgery, the surgery department was 5 stars. From the waiting area, to updates, and recovery superb. After surgery mom went to the Neuro spine wing. The staff there, were 5 stars. Dillion was moms favorite nurse. The phone system was a minus 1, mom got calls 24/7 for Uber, other people etc... And each meal she had to pick her meals online, and no meal matched her picks. She said the food was disgusting. Minus 1 She had a wonderful man bring her out to the car 5 stars. read more

UT Medical Center is the absolute best, BUT the 3rd Floor South Surgery Waiting Room is the worst place to wait EVER. I am on edge sitting here. There is so much noise I can't even describe it. 3 elevators, a stairway with people constantly going in & out & sooo many construction workers going in & out a door right next to it, with a lot of hospital employees pushing noisy carts. This waiting room (if you can call it that) needs to be moved! Forget trying to nap or have some tranquility during your loved one's 3 hour surgery. UT do better. read more

Good luck! I've been trying to get in to see an Oncologist since January. They don't answer the phone, and when the operator finally does, they transfer you to the wrong department. When people do answer, they start off the call with "sorry we're understaffed". They promise to call you back to make the appointment and never do. This place can't get its act together in the billing department! Countless times, and this is not an exaggeration, I have had to tell them that my insurance is primary and my husband's is secondary. I've told them in person and on the phone multiple times, and they STILL screw it up! They will either only bill my insurance and not the secondary, or they will drop my insurance and only bill the secondary. I don't know why this is so hard for them! It is incredibly frustrating to constantly be doing their job, and when you do talk to them, they have the audacity to be snippy with you. And what's really hilarious is that when you're on hold they have this recording going on about how they won't tolerate rudeness. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander apparently. If possible, seek assistance from a different system and avoid UT Medical. Maybe someplace else can actually do their job correctly. read more

I am APPALLED at how dirty our room was. Friend came in for a heart procedure. The room was absolutely filthy. There was hair, rubber bands, sticky stuff splattered all over the bathroom floor. The toilet had a paper that said sanitized but after lifting the lid, the rim is splattered in some green/blue/yellow substance. Your shoes literally stick to the floor. The wifi was unusable it was so slow and a cleaning lady came in at almost 930 AT NIGHT to take out garbage. Having to hear someone's cell phone go off all night just made the whole experience even better. Twice I approached the nurses station to get something for said friend and was completely ignored both times. Literally ignored. What happened to caring for people?? read more

DO NOT HAVE YOUR CHILD HERE. Unless you are ready to have the absolute worst experience you could ever have. This is baby number 6 for us, not our first time going through a birth. These women will make sure that your wife is in constant distress. I have things I will be writing in formal complaints about things they did to put her health at great risk, not to mention the mental damage this has done to our family. Imagine having a nurse who will back talk your wife after she's had a major surgery, c section, then after you try to protect her from the rude nurses they will send two police officers Into your room. To really amp things up. While my 3 year old and 1 year old and wife watched me being taken out of the room by police because I, me, not her, was causing an issue. I honestly don't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Find a mid wife. Have the baby at home. We used moonlight midwife and those women treated us like family. We used them before and I will forever be thankful for them for coming to sit with us during birth. To try and essentially protect us. Since the second we walked into the doors we were treated absolutely horribly. I will be filing formal complaints against both nurses. All I can end with it just don't do it. Trust an experienced family who knows what's it like to have a truly magical birth versus being trapped into that building where they send up peppy, bratty, nurses who have no idea what they are doing. When it comes to being able to speak to a woman who has just went through what she went through. Over 24 hours of labor, sent from our home birth at 1am because baby was not coming. Naturally. First I saw Dr Chun at UT MEDICAL CENTER ... breast cancer 30 years ago and one of my implants needed to be replaced.... This man is honest and wonderful... He is a plastic surgeon and his work is amazing... the surgery was done outpatient at UT medical ...from the care the second I walked in there, taking me 30 minutes early into surgery getting... giving me a numbing shot before my IV, which is a blessing as I hate IVs... Dr. Chun came and talked to me... and a doctor that was going to be accompanying him. I had two anesthesiologist come talk to me. I cannot tell you I have never felt so assured and comfortable going into surgery... if I have anything else done in the future, I hope and look forward to having it done at UT Medical Center. An absolutely wonderful experience with wonderful trained staff, and a very relaxing and comfortable environment . 5 days of pain management till surgery, released the day after. Most nurses were well trained and conscientious but several were not. One couldn't find a vein and jabbed 4 times. The surgeon was excellent and most physicians were helpful. There was a woman at the nurses station who was nasty to everybody, she has no idea how to treat patients. Most meals were edible and the staff was usually helpful. 2 nurses were excellent. read more

If you have an urgent issue have an ambulance bring you in otherwise you are likely to languish in a halway or waiting room amidst smells of booze and BO. It is an utter embarrassment to a city that its emergency room can not provide professional and prompt service to its citizens. I have lived in numerous large cities which had no problem seeing people with urgent issues URGENTLY. This place has normalized an average 8 HR wait. People should be outraged. read more

I had to have my appendix removed in January 2026. They have this huge expansion and apparently it's a donation from the Haslam family to "have shorter wait times" but this is simply a bigger holding facility. I had appendicitis and I was clearly showing symptoms and I had to wait from 6 PM to 2:30 AM to have a CT scan to confirm this was the case. I was informed they only had one CT scan machine working of the 3 they have. There is zero reason, at any time, that a level 1 trauma center should have only 3 CT scans let alone ONE working one. I waited 8.5 hours while they pumped me full of pain meds to be able to tolerate the wait to have a CT scan. I was sick. I was in pain. I waited 8.5 hours. Granted, they had gunshot wounds to the head coming in and falls that absolutely took precedent over me, but if there had been more CT machines this wouldn't have happened. I gave 3 stars, though, because my level of care from these nurses and doctors and surgeons was incredible. I am so pleased with the staff there and how I was treated with the impossible circumstances they were given by the owners of this hospital. I hope this review helps make a change... I doubt it will but I hope it could. read more

I feel that UT medical center is full of hypocrisy!! They say they have zero tolerance for disrespect,, oh but they don't think that respect goes both ways respect is earned!! Making people wait in agony for a MRI is disrespectful on them and its own right if they want to get nasty and technical about it!! I lived with a sore shoulder for over 4 months, all they did is do a x-ray in the ER.. knowing that I could have torn the ligaments in my shoulder.. do they give a hoot no!! They don't give a hoot!! And they need to stop playing the hypocrite and get on with what is right and not push us aside like we're a piece of meat in a marketplace!! It's funny that UT medical center dishes it out but yet they can't take their own medicine when they are pressured in the heat,, practice what you preach,, and don't punish us because we get sick or that we have issues with our muscles kidneys etc!! I'm very fortunate to have a good primary care physician,, but when it comes to the ER and MRI scheduling they are lousy. I can understand that that's all they probably have to work with but please don't keep us in the dark tell us when our appointment is how I found out that I had an appointment for a MRI it's because I was told after I called UT medical center first to call radiology. Scheduling.. March 23rd is my MRI appointment.. why couldn't my primary care physician tell me that herself or a nurse practitioner instead of making me wait in the dark wondering did they even bother to make one in the first place? This is a below standard facility, it is always dirty. The service is well below standard, the quality of care is extremely poor. The communication is terrible, My wife was out of surgery for 5 hours before they put her in a room and again I hear the "We are short staffed" yet when you walk into an area there will be 5 to nurses/staff members always talking to eachother about what they did last night, what they ate, where they went? Nursing is not a work from home job, now the State of Tennessee mistreats nurses as a whole not offering nurses the same benefits as other State employees, become a school nurse and you do not get the State employee tuition discounts. You pay into the same pension and have the same insurance just not the same benefits. UT gets there students to work on the cheap in exchange for tuition discounts under contract like endentured servants and it equates to garbage pay compared to there coounterparts nationally. However they cannot even get patients that are discharged pushed ina wheel chair to a car to go home. UT Knoxville just has horrible managment, surgery waiting rooms with no control. One family had 18 people waiting for 1 person, the sign posted says maximum of 2 (big difference). Then all of you absolute idiots that have the volumes on there phones turned up high for ring tones, videos and every other stupid thing you do on your phone while sitting next to people, I hope you choke on a bag of dicks. read more

Today I received a call from UT Medical Center about a bill that was just sent out at the end of December and paid the second day in January. The person I contacted when I returned the call said it was a "courtesy" call. Not only did the female need training in customer relations but wanted to argue that UT center should dun someone before two weeks had passed. I hung up on her and decided to write this review and write a letter directly to the center. My daughter requires medication to function. Her medication is as vital to her well-being as insulin is for a diabetic. Before moving to Tennessee, she was able to get her medication without any problems. However, this sleep clinic fails to recognize the importance of her medication and frequently delays her refills by several days to a week or more. This inhibits her ability to function and is causing her harm. DO NOT USE THIS SLEEP CLINIC. THEY DO NOT RESPECT PATIENT WELL-BEING. read more

Then there were 0 persons ahead of me and I waited another 10, until I realized that the poor person who was ahead of me probably just hung up in frustration. I would recommend going to any other ER in Knoxville. I had a very high fever and had to go to the ER because it was after clinic business hours. I received decent care while in the Waiting Room, but ended up being there for 8+ hours without receiving treatment from a physician. Some people had been waiting to receive treatment for 14 hours. I had to leave Against Medical Advice because I was becoming very sick, and by that point, it was morning and regular clinics were opening. I received a huge medical bill for treatment that I never received, which was extremely difficult to dispute. I typically don't leave reviews, especially bad ones, but I think it's important that people know that this ER is exploiting people and delivering poor patient care. read more

I was in need of some MRI's to satisfy the neurological doctor when I was told at UT Hospital I was not able to get those MRI procedures due to the metals in my body. So I went to work getting every medical report for each metal implants that reads non magnetic metals. Everyone signed off on getting the procedure after a Ultrasound on the carotid stent due to someone said it looked crushed. Really? If it were crushed I would know. So after all the reports were sent, the ultrasound procedure completed and vascular surgeon said all is good, an appointment was scheduled a month out. The night before at 6:00pm, I get a pre op call to check in when I was told, I would not be able to get the MRI procedure done. I asked why and the person said she doesn't know and everyone able to answer the question had gone home. I asked why I was called so late and after the medical staff had left and she blamed it on being short staffed due to COVID. This was July 2023. The issue with UT Medical Group is, they are not a group. One department has not a clue about the other so there is zero continuity, zero consistency, zero customer support, and the incompetence level is outrageous. My Primary Care Doctor hasn't a clue of what that term, Primary Doctor means. I will not recommend UT Medical to anyone. I know it's an opioid epidemic, but my grandma's whose 95 went to UT after suffering what appeared to be a stroke FROM severe pain. She had osteoporosis and her vertebrae just crumbled and at first she wrote nsaids then some other stuff that come to find out was just a muscle relaxer my grandma cldnt even get out of the bed at home after it hurt too bad but she had a potty chair next to it and she was in so much pain but we were halfway n she was struggling so I lifted her up and sat her down as fast as I cld but it was too late. She did have a stroke though they said she was fine and looked ok but within a week vascular dementia took my grandma's entire memory and mind. I do blame the doctors for not treating pain in someone who is probably going to be bedridden and die and is 95 years old!!! read more

Pathetic! That's about all I can say. I have never had a good experience at any UT facility, especially the ER. I went in with BP 199/100 and feeling faint. They stuck me in a cold room for several hours with the door almost completely closed so they couldn't even see if was still alive or not. At some point they took me for a CT scan. While waiting I couldn't help but notice how filthy the floor was. Finally a doctor came in for at most 5 minutes only to jump to conclusions that were to me obviously incorrect. Coincidentally my mom, her sister (my aunt), my grandmother and her sister ( my great aunt) ALL WENT TO UT, SEEN THE SAME DRS. My mom died 2019 (52), my aunt died 2022 (51), my great aunt died 2023 (67). I do not recommend the ER at Ut. I go to the OB here and the reason I came is because of being pregnant and having vomiting and diarrhea since 8pm the previous day without being able to hold anything down. I was told to come and go straight to labor and delivery triage, only to then be told to come to ER. Where I walk in and it's overcrowded on top of being sent to a room where you cannot use the bed, only to receive an IV and be sent back out to the lobby to not even be able to sit down because every chair is full. This place is unsanitary and I would not be shocked if I end up having staph after this visit. I will never come back to this facility and will be looking to switch OBs also due to the miscommunication. read more

Admitting staff seems over pressured triage staff is very rude and if anyone had a bedside manner to them, it was the ER doctor that attended my wife outside of that.
