The first half of the trail was mostly flat with sand and lava rocks. The second half was a steady incline starting from the stairs. The end requires a little bit of rock scrambling to reach the cave. The views from inside and around the cave were spectacular. Utah residents ($15 entry fee) and non-residents ($20 entry fee). Decent sized parking lot to the left shortly after entering the state park. Trailhead and restrooms are located across the street from the parking lot. The views are amazing and there are plenty of parking areas to pull off to adventure hike or bike. The campground is about $35 per night depending on your camping needs (car/tent camping-fulk RV hookups) This facility has bathrooms and shower rooms as well as covered pick up tables for some of the full hookup sites. Weekends get busy so highly recommend booking online early.

We didn't really know where to start when we arrived, and there wasn't much direction, so we ended up just climbing the first rock formation we saw. Honestly, if it weren't for a group of people ahead of us, we probably wouldn't have had any idea where to go. I was hoping to make it to the arch, but the climb felt a little too steep and slippery, especially with kids. We were carrying our three-year-old and keeping a close eye on our six-year-old, who was feeling a bit more adventurous than we were comfortable with in that terrain. We didn't make it very far in and mostly just stopped to take a quick photo so we could say we visited. It was also pretty hot, with the sun beating down the whole time, which made it harder to explore and enjoy the park fully. That said, the park itself is really nice, and you can tell there's a lot to see if you're prepared and know where you're going. I'd recommend going earlier in the day, bringing plenty of water, and maybe looking up a map or trail guide ahead of time, especially if you're visiting with young kids. Overall, it's a cool place, but we didn't get to experience it as much as we had hoped. Definitely worth another try with better planning!

I loved the Downtown St. George! There are so many pieces of art that are free to see as you walk around! Art Around The Corner has done an amazing job with lots of great sculptures out in the open! They are scattered all around Downtown. The website lists 36 of them and you can use the map to take a walking tour. It was quite hot when we arrived, so we didn't walk around more than 30 minutes. We went to the St. George Town Square Park and checked it out. There are lots of sculptures as well! There are some great water features where we saw children enjoying themselves! We ate at J. Dawg's and then went to Zeppe's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, both recommended by my son & his wife. These are really inexpensive and delicious options! After eating at both places, I highly recommend them, too! I don't even like hot dogs, but I'd go again! Be sure to get their fries ... super!! If you're headed to Zion or Bryce National Parks, this is a great place to stop for the night. It is only about 45 minutes to Zion. We have been through St. George a handful of times, but never really stopped to enjoy it. This is a really great little town and I'm sure we'll stop again next time we are this way!!

This review is for the St. George City, Utah Water Department for their introduction of the…read moreEyeOnWater program where they've installed Leak Alert Detector devices on our water meters and an app to download and review the usage in real-time. Recently, I received an email notice from the Water Department, stating that my water meter was now equipped with the leak detector and at no additional cost, I could download the EyeOnWater app, enroll and monitor my usage in real time. That day I received a push notice I had an 8 1/2 gal/hr. (192 gal/day) leak since installing the leak detector on September 18th that I was completely unaware of. The leak was observed at that time only because the detector was installed that day, but most likely, the leak could have been there for years. Then the quest to find it began. Since I already knew, thank God, where the water system for the Main and irrigation system met at the south side of my house, I began digging there (I was unable to find any areas of puddling water anywhere on my property that could indicate a possible leak) luckily within a short time the ground began showing moisture, then mud, then finally water. It was my Main water line that the geniuses who backfilled the trench when the home was built, dumped a 50 lb. boulder on it. (SMH), thanks, Ence Homes! In the end, the repair went well, saving thousands of dollars from having to pay plumbing professionals $$$$$. I am extremely grateful that the St. George Water Department made the decision to put these leak detectors on and make them available for us to monitor. Update: 11.24.25 Now, having the opportunity to use the EyeOnWater app and monitor my water usage without the 192gal/day water leak, I find most days we're using under that amount in total unless we're doing laundry and/or outside irrigation. So, for possibly some years now, we've lost 192 gal/day, everyday thanks to the incompetent people Ence Homes contracted to backfill our irrigation/main water line trench. Our new Ence Homes slogan is, Ence Homes, the ROCK of homebuilding. (No pun intended.) We couldn't be more grateful to our St. George City Water Department for the incredible decision to place leak meters on our systems, which, again, was the deciding factor that exposed our leak. It is also fantastic to have an app that is as well, extremely useful for monitoring our water usage (every 15 minutes if we want to see how much water a flush, shower, washing machine or the outside irrigation usage is. Otherwise, we can monitor the usage weekly, monthly and/or annually.) from now on. Again, we are so grateful to our Water Department, THANK YOU!

Utah is one of the most majestic, awe-inspiring states and has been such an unexpected joy in my…read morelife - if you had told me 10 years ago that I'd be spending a significant part of my life in Utah I never would've believed you lol. Exploring Utah over the past 4-5 years has changed me - I have developed such a deep appreciation for the deserts and canyon lands that I used to vehemently dislike thanks to the Beehive State! Our 45th state is packed full of burnt orange cliffs and slot canyons, deep green rivers, towering multicolored mountains and hoodoos, unlimited arches and natural bridges, well preserved dinosaur footprints, and an insane amount of petroglyphs and pictographs dating back many thousands of years. I thoroughly enjoyed combing through my Utah photo collection from the past several years and I hope my pics will give you a sense of the vast land of adventure this state holds! When my son got out of the marines, he announced he was moving to Salt Lake City to go to college with his marine "brothers" - at the time I was absolutely devastated bc I thought he'd always live with me forever until the end of days (as I'm sure all mothers do LOL) - but he went off to make a life for himself with his newfound military bros (how dare he??!!!) His decision ended up being such a wonderful turn of events in all our lives - not only did it open up a whole new world of outdoor adventures and American history to explore, but it also brought so many wonderful people into our lives and given us a whole new branch of our family!! His military bros are the most fantastic people and their families have all become part of our family! The outdoor activities and wildlife are unparalleled- and the people are the kindest I've ever encountered. My son has utterly thrived in Utah and excelled at "The U" in his engineering major. This state will forever hold a special place in my heart! It's a hidden gem and I hope it stays that way - but I don't think it will bc apparently it's one of the fastest growing state in the US waaaa!! So I highly recommend visiting - but also please don't so it won't change LOL!!

We love Utah because they have some of the most beautiful National Parks, which I mentioned extensively in my original review. We even revisited Bryce Canyon during Covid year (2020)... it was a great place to social distance ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Aside from these iconic national parks we also found some national monuments, landmarks and small towns to visit including Virgin Town. If passing by don't forget to stop at the Buffalo Trading Company and try their awesome buffalo burgers... and did you know that there is a real UP House located in the southwestern City of Herriman? You won't find Carl, Ellie and Russell here, though. This house isn't cartoon. Old Irontown (Cedar City) - located in the southern part of Utah Old Irontown is said to be the very first ghost town in Utah. What we found was an off-the-beaten trail that led to the historical part of Old Irontown and a charcoal kiln was one of the landmarks in the ghost town... no ghosts, just a bunch of fire ants! Yikes! Park City Historic Main Street - I was charmed by this popular historic mountain town. Lots of shops and restaurants, bars and breweries, entertainment, galleries, and nearby hotel and lodging. It was once a silver town and hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. Reminded me of Virginia City in NV. Bonneville Salt Flats (Wendover) - this was cool! We drove here in 2020... can't practice anymore social distancing than being here at the Salt Flats. We drove a mile out from the west rest stop area and checked out this densely packed salt bed. I had no idea that Southern Utah was once a dinosaur stomping ground (no pun intended) and that inside the St George Dinosaur Discovery Site @ Johnson Farm is the original intact track surface. There's a path that winds through the park that takes you through the trees, past the flowers and the bushes. There are signs throughout that tell visitors what plants are in the area, so you can better identify what you're looking at. Even though it gets extremely hot in the summer, there's a good amount of shade, so this park can be enjoyed morning, noon and night.

What an amazing drive through the Virginia River Gorge. You are going to want to hit the gorge at…read morethe peak afternoon, when the sun is right about overhead. You will also want to be a bit selfish and not be the driver so you can completely enjoy the oohs and ahhs views. It is so strikingly beautiful that I -- the passenger through the pass -- wanted to turn around for a do-over. The Virgin River Gorge, located between St. George in Utah and the tiny town of Beaver Dam, Arizona. If you are heading in the direction of Utah, you are in luck, as there is a beautiful river that runs along Interstate 15. The canyon itself was carved out by the Virgin River. Moving through the canyon is a bit of a winding drive, and the rocks jet up, revealing steep, orange and burnt orange cliffs. Unfortunately, there is not a pullout as you are moving through the gorge -- and it is very enticing to want to stop. Given the speed with which people are driving and the winding road, it would not be safe to pull over for a look. Immediately after leaving the gorge, you can stop by the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area. It is a camping and hiking area, with day-use ($2 per vehicle). The views looking back toward the gorge, though not as impressive, are gorgeous. And there is ample space to walk around, take a lunch and use the restrooms (which are flush toilets and kept clean). There is not easy access to the river from here, however if you have a short stop.

I spent a leisurely day here, which I thought was enough to enjoy the visitor center, the scenic drive, and hike Timber Creek Overlook as well as Taylor Creek Trail. The visitor center has the NPS ranger desk, a small gift shop with the usual NPS offerings, and information about the rocks. There's also washrooms here and water available. The drive was beautiful with many pull outs to enjoy the view. I drove up to Timber Creek Overlook which is at the end of the drive. It's about a 1.2 mi path, although it was evidentially super muddy in the past with super deep foot prints and people walking everywhere. It was ok. The Taylor Creek Trail was amazing. I've never hiked a trail with as many stream crossings, which made it fun. There's also two homestead cabins on the way, and the trail takes you through a narrow box canyon toward the Double Arch Alcove. The end of the hike was pretty chilly due to the shade and the water present. Brr. I think this is a great counterpart to the more famous area - it's definitely less visited and you get more solitude.

Kolob Canyons as part of Zion National Park is an underrated gem much less visited than The Narrows…read morein Zion. It's located about an hour north of the main park entrance, off the highway on the way to Cedar City. An admission fee is required to enter this area of the park. We arrived around 8:30am and there were only several cars in front of the visitor center. We checked in with our national park passes and started the 5-mile scenic drive up to the top of the mountain. There's are many pullouts along the road to take pictures and see the beautiful views. A circular parking lot is at the summit with vault restrooms and a nice view of the Kolob Canyons. The secret here is to hike the 0.5 mile trail with the trailhead at the parking lot. The hike has a little elevation, but a 76-year old in our party was able to hike all the way. The views at the end of the trail are phenomenal and worth the trip. We spent a lot of time here taking pictures and soaking up the sights. We could see far into the horizon, past the mountains into Arizona on a clear day. For me, visiting Kolob Canyons was my favorite and most memorable part of my Utah trip. The crowds here are nearly nonexistent, though parking at the top of the mountain can get full. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend adding Kolob Canyons to your itinerary!

Not too busy for a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Plenty of beach area around the water. My kids had fun, so we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.
