Millcreek Community Center serves the community in many ways, as a library, a senior center, and a…read morerecreational center where you may walk the track, work out in the weight room or take yoga or aerobics classes. Did you know that the heating and air conditioning system is one of the most efficient systems in operation? It uses water pumped far underground in a sealed loop to reject heat in the summer and retrieve the heat for warmth in winter. There is also a very large solar array on the roof to help cut electrical costs. I'm proud to have been servicing the HVAC system there since the center opened its doors, I love keeping everyone comfortable and I love this center!

It's off (way off) the beaten path, so you have to go here on purpose, which limits traffic considerably. If you're trying to get back on the fitness bandwagon, this is a great place to start as you can either jump in on classes or put yourself through the drills (what I did) at your own pace. There is a modest locker room and a modest gym, which is good for the lower levels of stuff or if you just want to maintain. It also adjoins the East Millcreek Library and there are a few other things out on the complex, such a track and a basketball court and it's surrounded by some pretty cool woods. I really enjoyed the low key nature of it. On the bad side is what happens a lot with REC Centers and that is that they can become easily crowded (somewhat rare for me and I was able to work around it) as well as reaching a point where I was overpowering the equipment. That this is designed around more modest physical activities is both a blessing and a curse there and while it was great to get back into the swing of things (and maybe I'll wind up utilizing it again for that, once my son is old enough) without breaking the bank, it can only serve that purpose, which means time will be necessarily limited if you intend to move beyond. Staff also could get a bit surly about things, though I don't suppose that is really the fault of this place. It's a nice little place, all in all, but definitely mileage will vary.

Great facility with lots and lots of fitness options. Cardio machines (treadmills, bikes, rowing…read moremachines, ellipticals, etc.) and a walking/running track make up the upstairs part of the building--this is a great place for parents to watch their kids play basketball while they get in some exercise. On the lower level, there is a lap pool and a kids pool (complete with water slides and a lazy river), a weight room, basketball courts, and a high-fitness area (with TRX, punching bags, battle ropes, and the like). The basketball courts are fantastic and have a lot of hoops to practice on. While the weight room doesn't have as many machines as the cardio area upstairs, there are a decent amount of free weights and I rarely see machines broken; I've never seen a machine out of order for more than 24 hours, so the maintenance staff is really on top of things. In addition to these open areas, which are all included with paid admission (daily costs are $3 for children under 12 and $5 for adults), the Park Center offers a variety of fitness classes, including Zumba, water aerobics, spinning, HIIT, and more. I love this gym because of the assortment of activities, the friendly staff, the non-crowded atmosphere, and because you can purchase monthly memberships without worrying about contracts and fees like other gyms.

I honestly wasn't planning to do much at Murray City Park (I just stopped by to stretch my legs for…read morea bit) but it ended up being way nicer than you expect a quick stop to be. When you enter, you're greeted by a huge wooden Chief Wasatch sculpture at the entrance. It's kind of hard to miss and gives the whole place a bit of character before you even step onto the paths. From there, it opens up into this really clean, green space that just feels well cared for. And clean is the big thing here that matters. It feels like the park is well maintained. The grass is lush, the landscaping is especially pretty in the summer months, and there are tons of mature trees that give you shade without making the place feel closed in. It strikes a nice balance between open space and cozy, private areas. The walking paths are another highlight. They're easy, flat, and perfect if you're just trying to clear your head or, like me, take a quick break and stretch your legs. You've also got little views of water here and there that add to the calm vibe without turning it into a full-on destination park. What's kind of impressive is how much is packed into one place. There's an amphitheater, sports fields for pretty much everything, a pool, even an outdoor ice rink when it's in season. The park has playgrounds, picnic areas, and pavilions, too. The park is open year-round and is clearly a local favorite because it's always buy, but the crowds never felt overwhelming when I was there. There's enough space to spread out, which helps. Overall, this park is not trying to be anything flashy, just a really solid, well-kept community park. Easy to walk, nice to look at, and surprisingly relaxing for a quick stop. Definitely one of those spots you end up appreciating more than you expected.

My son has attended the center for the last 5 years with no problems. I was informed (less than a…read moreweek before school starts) that we are no longer on "the list" to attend the day care. I was given no warning, and I would not have known this unless I called. I was told that priority was given to students that attended the summer camp and that this was "policy". Again, we have attended this daycare for the last 5 years and never attended the summer camp, and this is the first time we were told there is not a space for my son. Is there no priority given to families that have attend for the last 5 years? I am a single mother and a teacher. The MAC was a very important piece of the chaotic puzzle of juggling work, children, finances, etc. I now have to find a new daycare in less than a week in order for me and my child to start the new school year. This abrupt news is completely unprofessional, shocking, and hurtful. I am not the only parent to receive this news either, I have heard of at least 1 other family in the same situation. We are confused, and extremely upset in how this was handled. Again, no one told us this could happen or that this was even a possibility until I called to make sure we were good to go for next week. This is inexcusable.
