My first contact with Dr. Kris Uyehara was several years ago, when his office was in Brentwood. At the time, I had the good fortune of being referred to him by my long-time (and also outstanding) dentist, Roger Schuster, who directed me to have a problem "cracked" tooth extracted by Dr. U. At the time, had YELP been an entity, I would have given Dr. U a five star rating. Today, Dr. U., unfortunately, had the grim task of extracting yet another tooth of mine that was not salvageable; a tooth that was capped more than thirteen years ago and was slowly but surely disintegrating internally. This was my first visit at Dr. U's Beverly Hills office. Like the first visit many years ago in Brentwood, I was impressed with the professionalism of both he and his staff. The procedure was painless....I barely felt even the preliminary Novocain injections. Dr. U. is an easy going and personable Dr. who took his time and told me exactly what he was going to do. He asked if I had any questions or concerns and then gently took me through the procedure. Dr. Uyehara was beyond fantastic. I am a nervous nellie and from our first pre-op appointment, he completely put me at ease. He is beyond calm and reassuring and diligently goes over any questions you might have. The day of my wisdom teeth extraction (all four!!!), he had the same cool and calm demeanor. He and Vanessa were wonderful the day of extraction. I was in no discomfort at any time during the procedure and at his office. My mom was referred to Dr. Uyehara by her regular dentist when she needed a couple of oral surgery procedures done (an extraction with a deep infection and dental implants). The first time I met Dr. Uyehara was when I took my mom for one of those appointments. His office is calm and warmly furnished with lots of magazines to read, his front office receptionist was polite and detailed with both me and my mom, and the doctor himself was very patient indeed. Since her dentist told Dr. Uyehara that my mom was a "high stress patient" (she totally IS), he either has gone out of his way to be extra calming and patient with her - or that's just how he is with everyone. Either way, his bedside manner is really soothing for ME - because I can relax and know that my mom is in good hands - and for my MOM - because she can finally trust someone completely with her dental needs. Based on my mom's multiple experiences with Dr. Uyehara in the past few months and my impression of him when I met him, I'd say that he is someone who I would trust with my dental needs as well as my mom's! I was SO scared to get my wisdom teeth removed. I had heard horror stories, but one of my friends highly recommended Dr. Uyehara. I previously went to consultations with several oral surgeons who recommended I have all four teeth removed. I just didn't feel comfortable with those surgeons, and I'm so glad I trusted my instincts. Dr. Uyehara explained that at this point, only the bottom 2 wisdom teeth should be removed. I greatly appreciated Dr. Uyehara's honesty. Dr. Uyehara made the process SO easy!! He made me feel comfortable with the surgery & recovery was a breeze. The worst part was vomiting from the pain pills, so if you're sensitive to opiates like me, I suggest using a less powerful pain medication. The staff is amazing too! I live in fear of dentists. But, the minute I met Dr. Uyehara, I immediately fell at ease. The guy just exudes calmness, knowledge and competency. I knew I had found the man to do a complicated extraction. The morning I went in, he asked me if I felt nervous. Surprisingly, I did not. All went better than planned. I healed with minimal pain and discomfort. In about three and a half months, I'll go back to begin the procedure to have an implant. I'm not looking forward to it but, I'm not waiting in fear, as might be the case had I not had Dr. U to work on it. As my dental insurance policy is new, they agreed to pay only 5% of the invoice for the extraction. Still, I think Dr. Uyehara's invoice is very reasonable, given the level of care, diligence and location of his office. Office staff is also very knowledgeable and pleasant. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Uyehara. Dr. Uyehara is calm, competent, and extremely caring when it comes to taking care of his patients. He is straightforward and honest, and truly gets the job done as quickly and painlessly as possible. He made me feel comfortable about what was going to happen, and constantly checked in throughout the morning there in everything he did to make sure I was ok. The whole experience was really the best I could ask for in needing to get a wisdom tooth removed! I had been told that I would need to get a wisdom tooth taken out one day, and I ignored that recommendation, putting it off as long as possible. One night, I was in so much pain from having ignored that recommendation, and all dentists' offices were closed. I called Dr. Uyehara and left a message. Within 10 minutes that night, he called me back with meds to take and promised me a time slot the next day. I called first thing in the morning and was told to come in. Normally I'm a nervous wreck at the dentist and doctor's office, but that day I was totally calm and ready for this to happen. He numbed my mouth, I put my headphones in to listen to my music, and the tooth was out before the second song was finished. WIth instructions and prescriptions in hand, I headed home. I just have to say Dr. Uyehara is an amazing doctor. When I came to him I was in so much pain from my wisdom teeth coming in. The bottom two were impacted and causing infections that were just unbearable. I needed them out asap. I called the office and he had a cancellation so they were able to put me in that spot to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted. His staff was very catering to all my questions/concerns leading up to the surgery. I was very nervous. I'd never had surgery before and well I went onto the internet and read how horrible the pain is when getting the wisdom teeth extracted... How they could hear teeth cracking, etc. I went to get the surgery done the next morning, Dr. Uyehara put me to ease, as others have mentioned his demeanor puts you to ease about the whole process. No one likes mouth work done but he makes you feel much calmer about the process. Anyway back to the surgery, I just had sedation and was awake for the surgery. I heard NOTHING. He was so professional and easy on my mouth. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. He knows what he's doing so was able to work swiftly and promptly, while having excellent work done on my mouth. He would tell me after he extracted each tooth and I couldn't believe it. I was like really?!? already? I felt nothing! I was so thankful. It was the best process that any surgery can be! Post surgery - I was expecting to have to take some time off for recovery but nope I was back at work after one day of resting. No swelling. You can just tell with my recovery that he went easy on my mouth. If I need any other dental work on my mouth I will definitely be back to Dr. Uyehara. Dr Uyehara is the most honest and trustworthy medical professional I have come across. The tooth extraction he performed went perfectly. I started to notice that he was different from other doctors - he didn't push for extra X-rays or unnecessary procedures. Then I received the bill from his office. So reasonable! I had to go back in because I had a question about my procedure (took 5-10 min) and there was no charge. Other dentists would surely have charged an office visit fee for this. The doctor is very friendly and takes the time to answer any and all questions. The icing on the cake is that every time I go in (a tooth extraction and implant is a 6 month procedure with multiple visits), he stays on schedule and I'm not waiting. The parking attendants downstairs always say "you must be coming from Dr U -- no one ever gets in and out in under 20 min". Finally his office staff is super efficient and friendly. Dr Kris Uyehara was recommended by my dentist Dr Raymond Silkman who told me he was the best he knew and I must say that Dr Kris lived up to that expectation. It was my first experience with him. I had to extract a root canal tooth - #19 that got badly infected, had a cracked root and therefore couldn't be saved. I went in with few considerations and he kindly accommodated my needs, worked with me and complied with my requests for which i'm grateful. I felt heard and cared for just the way i wanted and it made me feel good & comfortable which is usually not the kind of feeling we experience when we go for surgery. He was professional, personable, explain to me at every step what he was going to do and did a swift, yet excellent job at inducing Novocain, removing the tooth and curing / cleaning the socket of its infection. I was handle gently and felt no pain at all. His staff was as supportive and took the time to explain things clearly. As I write today, a week later, i'm healing beautifully with no complications!!! He and his staff were also very relaxed which added to the calm atmosphere and I love that Hawaiian music Dr Kris - great choice :) reminded me of my vacations in Hawaii. I never write yelp reviews, but I just HAVE to write one for Dr. Uyehara. I have TMJ issues and have limited jaw opening so I was putting it off til the last minute to take my wisdom teeth out. Plus, all of my friends said their wisdom teeth were broken into pieces during the extraction process and afterwards, their faces got super swollen. I was so shocked that Dr. Uyehara took out two teeth in about ten minutes; painlessly, and my face wasn't even swollen at all. I just couldn't believe it. My friends couldn't believe it either. Not that he needs another 5-star review, but let me join the chorus here. I have had a problem tooth for almost 40 years...multiple root canals, but infection always returning. Dr. Uyehara was recommended to me by a highly respected local dentist, and I set up an appointment to get the remainder of the tooth pulled and replaced by an implant. It was not an easy extraction, as the tooth just didn't want to let go. But Dr. Uyehara was gentle throughout the entire process, frequently checking in to make sure I was okay (I was). Once the tooth was out, he very thoroughly cleaned out the root to remove the infection. Again, despite his diligence in cleaning the root out, I was completely comfortable the entire time. He asked me to come back in three months (it takes time for the bone they pack in the root to attach) to see if the infection had returned. I was delighted when he told me everything looked great, and we could proceed with the implant. I am going in this afternoon so he can finish the job, and then 40 years of problems will be over! I feel so fortunate to have found Dr. Uyehara. In addition to being exceptionally skilled, he is also a wonderful person. I recommend him without qualification for any dental surgery. read more

I had SO much anxiety about having a wisdom tooth removed. I never had oral surgery before, but I've had fillings done where they didn't use enough anesthesia, and I could feel the drilling, which was very painful. I was so worried the oral surgery would be painful, and/or it would take a long time, and that I'd be so uncomfortable afterwards, etc. But true to all the other reviews, Dr. Uyehara was wonderful. I felt absolutely nothing, and it was over so quickly! Amazing. I couldn't believe how fast and painless it all was. Even afterwards I had no pain. I only used Ibuprofen, nothing stronger, and I healed up in a week. Amazing experience! read more

I put off getting my wisdom teeth extracted for far too long, simply because I was afraid. So, many decades of dental service, Portland, New York, London, Los Angeles have provided a lexicon of the dentistry trade through the years. Great, good, indifferent and downright terrible. But I wasn't prepared for the recent experience with Dr. Uyehara. A few years ago, my wife had wisdom teeth removed by him and she raved raved raved. However, we seldom listen to our loved- ones opinions. Cut to the chase. I got blindsided by an Xray showing real trouble. Get it fixed - fast. No problem. Quick date. Transfer of films. Cool building with Good parking in Beverly Hills. Mellow digs, Nice real staff, who answer questions and Care. And of course...the maestro. If there are surgeons who communicate openly with the very latest equipment and relaxing atmosphere all the way -start to finish - (major league extraction and removal of infection in about 40 minutes) Constant monitor of blood pressure, constant staff attention and question answering - Dr. U is the chairman of the Board. Sends you home with a check list and prescriptions for cure and pain (and I've still got a couple of bombers left). You've got the picture. This is the guy to let into your tender chops to fix things. PS - not long after I got out of his chair my dear wife needed his genius (fast) and he cooly delivered two perfect games for our family. Well educated and skilled, this oral surgeon did an amazing job of extracting my two wisdom teeth in an efficient and painless process.
