First of all when I called to make the appointment I specifically asked if you clip nails and Dremel just the front two paws and they said sure no problem and then I asked will I be able to be in the room during the exam and when he has his nails clipped and she said oh sure that's not a problem at all. Big huge lie. Not only did she tell me that I could stay in the room while he was having his nails clipped and during the so-called exam which was a lie, I get there and the technician wants to take him out of the room, out of my sight which he has never been out of my sight and if he would not have needed his nails clipped so bad I would have walked out at that point. Then I talked to the doctor, well let's just say I don't know if it was a doctor or somebody wearing scrubs it was somebody I spoke to that said the only thing I need to do for his severe allergies was to rinse them off with water twice a week. That's it oh yeah and also feed him a cheap crap dog food where the first ingredient is chicken feathers and he is highly allergic/sensitive to chicken. So this quack in the scrubs literally told me to feed him a cheap no nutrition Purina dog food where the first ingredient is chicken feathers? Seriously??? So I paid a hundred bucks for nothing well I take that back this stupid idiot did force him and choke him and muzzle him and put him in another room where I couldn't see him and clipped his nails and he has never ever had a problem clipping his nails at the vet's office but she clipped them now they're sharper than razors because she didn't Dremel them like they said they were going to do. So they're a bunch of quacks I wouldn't take a pet snake to them. If you love your precious babies, DON'T GO TO THESE LYING QUACKS! read more

NEVER TAKE your animal to Dr Gibbs if love and care about them ......My dogs were patients of Dr Rice before he retired. Mostly my Jessie Jane just needed shots and nails trimmed. She loved all the "STAFF" In the past year she had three surgeries on a cyst as I was told. Each time Dr. Gibbs said I guess I didn't go deep enough!!! He didn't mind charging me a hefty amount each time. Which I paid because I LOVE my girl. He also said to me thanks for helping me with my new king ranch truck payment ha ha. That's something a patient says to the doctor. I'm glad I could help put your kids through college. That's not something that Dr says to their patient, I just brushed it off like that's not really that funny Less than two weeks ago my girl stopped eating. I thought she just had a tummy ache after day 6 days of checking with doctor I just took her in with no appointment. Dr Gibbs said she was fine. Monday I came home from work early clearly my dog was NOT FINE!!! I tried to pick up my 50 pound girl and she was screaming in AGONY. I'm 5 minutes from the Vet. When I tried to take her out of my car she was in SO MUCH PAIN. I wanted to put her to sleep. Mind you this is NOT an easy decision. Dr Gibbs looked at me like I was nuts. They did blood XRays and said she was dehydrated and had a fever. He said just bring her back in the morning and we'll do shoot dye in her tummy. I wasn't comfortable with that. I really felt she was in too much pain. I said please give her a pain shot something anything. They did not give her any fucking pain shot. She gets a daily pain pill but if you're throwing up all day, obviously that's not in your system. She needed something to calm her down. They wanted me to leave her there overnight and I was like fuck no not leaving my dog here to be alone in a cage. They gave her some fluids and by the time I got home, her belly had swelled up four times in normal size. I was told by the staff it was normal that she would be leaking fluid from her skin. It didn't seem very normal to me!!!!I I gently put my sweet girl on my bed and laid next to her with my arm on her. I dozed off for a moment and when I woke up, she was dead. What pisses me off the most is why didn't he say Yvette Take her to an emergency and get a CAT scan because I would've. WHY didn't he take the sound of her screaming bloody murder loud that there was something so wrong ????? Better yet why didn't he just let me put her to sleep like I wanted to? A mother knows their dog. A mother knows their dog and putting her to sleep with a last thing I would've ever wanted for my 9 year-old dog But more importantly I did not want her to SUFFER and I would've let her go in a heartbeat before I let her suffer like she did the last few hours of her life. Never and I mean, never take your dog to have any sort of treatment there in your life if you love your dog, Jesse Jane I'm so sorry I failed you as a mom by not following my instinct and taking you somewhere else and having you put down, I will never make that mistake again. read more

Dr. Rice was awesome. He asked more questions than most vets and really handled my not incredibly social 80 lb pitbull wonderfully. They were best friends by the time it was over. He stuck around after her exam and procedure and just chatted getting to know us. He seems like he genuinely loves his job and cares about the quality of care. His stuff was super friendly and his costs were not price gouging and they were fair. It's unfortunate that people just come here to complain when so many love him or he wouldn't be in business and I saw the interaction he had with other patients. I read bad reviews and am weary about using the service. When I find something to be incredibly inaccurate I like to be sure to come back and tel my side and my side says you won't be disappointed. read more

Before I explain my story I want to say thank you to V.E.T. Care Hospital! Since Monday I have been at a total loss and within a few minutes of speaking to Dr. Gibbs here at this animal hospital I was finally educated of the infection my dog had and I finally had hope again for my sweet Zaya! I will continue to use them from here on out for all of my animals!! This is to anyone who may need this info or to help prevent from happening... I assumed by searching google spaying your dog later on is healthier for the dog but, not thats not case, as I unfortunately found out... To those who have female dog fur babies that have not been spayed you should definitely be aware of something I recently went through with mine that was absolutely horrifying! Zaya who is only 2yrs old and has only had three heat cycles was diagnosed Monday with pyometra while being prepped for surgery to be spayed at another veterinarian hospital. Within two hours of being at the vet the common low risk surgery costing around $350 quickly became a high risk life-threatening surgery with an additional cost of $2000. I was lost not knowing what to do and almost gave up heartbroken with the thought of having to put down my 2yr old baby. A good friend informed me of a mutual friend who recently went through the same exact problem. The vet that they recommended was **V.E.T. Care Hospital** they checked her out today and said she just needs to finish antibiotics since the infection was caught early and will be spayed Friday at an affordable regular cost. God for bid anyone experience this but, if anybody who does I hope this post helps! Highly Recommend Dr. Gibbs!!! read more

My advice is to void this vet office when considering major surgery for your pet. I wish I had done better research. My 10 year old black lab was diagnosed by the ER with possible cancer of the spleen, hemangiosarcoma. She has had zero health issues before and this came as a shock. Time was of the essence because we did not know when one of the hemangiomas would burst and bleed out. We were faced with doing an expensive surgery that if it had not spread could give us months to years more with her or putting her down before it got worse. Which the vet did clearly explain as well as the ER. We were told by this vet the surgery was not very extensive, incision is barely bigger than a spay and would heal very similar. Seemed confident in being able to do the surgery. We decided to go for it and give her a chance. It sounded very doable and worth it. When we picked her up the morning after surgery she was having quite a bit of drainage from her incision. They said it would get better, keep her wrapped up, change it if need be. Couldn't give an explanation for why just that it could be her platelets which were 1 point below normal before surgery? Two days later she had fatty tissue coming out of her incision. We took her in and she had to have another surgery to redo the internal sutures and external, still having drainage though. Within 24 hours, a loop of bowel had come out of her incision (we had changed her dressing frequently and carefully, kept her tightly wrapped and confined to her bed). Otherwise she was fine, cancer had not spread from what he could tell, not in pain (taking meds), eating and drinking, cooperating with everything. We had to make the decision to put her down at the ER. Turns out the surgery and recovery were much more extensive and complicated than we were told. It is hard for me to believe that mistakes were not made during both of her surgeries. There were red flags that I ignored due to desperation. It is not their fault that I have regret because it was ultimately our decision. I do not feel we were given the correct information in order to make an informed decision. Please learn from our mistake, get a few opinions from different vets and do your own research. read more

I took my kitten in for diarrhea after a visit for them to treat her for worms. They prescribed an antibiotic and anti diarrheal which I got from them. I called when I got home to double check directions. I told the girl that I didn't think I had enough for what I was supposed to give them. She just said "yeah that happens sometimes ". Well, I only had enough for 5 days of the 8 day antibiotic and 1 1/2 days of the 3 day med. the kitten didn't get better so I called back today. They wanted to do another test and sell me another medication. When I told them about not getting all of what I paid for last time, they just said that their records show that I did. She said they could sell me another set of meds and make sure the right amount was there before I left. I asked why they didn't tell me to come in and have them check it when I called the first time. She said that they should have. Oh well. They refused to make it right. So I'm out $45 for meds and have to get her treated somewhere else. read more

Dr. Carlos Gibbs at Rice Animal Hospital is excellent. All the staff were very professional and kind. They got our 15 year old cat in for a emergency visit within 30 min of me calling. Dr. Gibbs examine our cat and was very compassionate and kind when telling us what was wrong with her. Rather than euthanizing her he recommended we take her home and try antibiotics as she was not in pain. He said there was a 50/50 chance of her making it. We took her home and she passed away peacefully 3-4 hours later in my daughters arms. We have her on ice as its the weekend and we plan to return tomorrow to drop her off to be cremated. I am so glad Dr. Gibbs took over Rice Animal and we will definitely be using them for our other pets in the future. read more

I'm posting this here in hopes to maybe save a life. I will be calling and speaking to them since it's a very serious situation but I'm too upset right now so I'm posting to yelp. My dog was there 2 years ago for X-rays and blood work. I complained about his panting and coughing. Dr. Rice was very inconsiderate of my feelings for one thing, which is why I never went back. He didn't care about how scared I was for my dog and downplayed the situation. Just recently I noticed my dogs condition getting worse, coughing more often these days so I decided to have him seen by another vet. As soon as I showed the other vet the X-rays Dr. Rice took he informed me my baby had an enlarged heart and possible heart failure. Dr. Rice never once mentioned his heart being a problem. I waited two years because of what this vet told me and my baby could die because of him. Never take your pet here please. I might have to take legal action depending on how my dog does. Dr. Rice missing such easy information is downright disgusting and unethical. You've been warned. Update: My dog actually did pass away in November due to his heart condition. I'm not sure why anyone thought my review was funny. I was very serious then and I am now, stay away from this place. read more

I love Dr. Rice office! I worked at a grooming and boardng facility and got MARY recomendaciones to visit their office. Since, I was looking for a new vet in the Burleson/Fort Worth area I decided to pay them a visit since they were recommend to me so frequently by clients that had been going there for years. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! After doing a lot of research and calling around, I found that they were the biggest bag for my buck, while also ensuring the best care for my 2 dogs. They never wanted me to pay more than I needed to and never suggested more than necessary for my pets. They always helped me with any questions I had and I REALLY wish they would have moved up here with me to Colorado. They are my most favorite vet clinic! You need to make an appointment and see this wonderful vet clinic and see what I am talking about. read more

If you're looking for a warm and friendly vet... try Deer Creek on 1187. Dr. Rice is fine and dandy. But needs to run a tighter shop. We got a new puppy who happened to have fleas. She was MISERABLE through the weekend so that Monday I brought her in. Dr Rice was not there but they said they could weigh her and give her a pill. They gave my larger dog nexgaurd and my little (2.8 pound maltepoo) interceptior. Anyways she got worse that night. I got 3 hours of sleep and I cried because she couldn't eat, sleep, drink, play or potty because of the scratching and screaming (we were up ALL night). Anyways, thankfully, Rice was booked and referred me out to Deer Creek. They told me that Interceptior is a HEARTWORM medication, NOT flea. Anyways, 30 minutes later, a topical, words of advice, and leaving the vet... she stopped itching as much. We got her home and she ate, played, and was so much happier. This all could have been avoided. Although Dr. Rice is a perfectly nice guy, I cannot recommend his office. read more

I have never met a more condescending man in my entire life than Dr. Rice. My faithful dog is old. She has a growth in her mouth and ulcerations on her face that won't heal. I made an appointment for today. Dr.Rice comes in and for every question I ask he has a smug answer while looking at his technicians and making faces of mockery. He tells me that you cant just plug your dog into a USB port and find out what is wrong. At this point, I am ready to go. He asks what else I need and I reply with I am worried about my dog and you've been extremely condescending and I just want to leave. As I am waiting to pay my bill he is using a mocking voice to say "I was as nice as I could be be but NOOOO you said I'm mean." I immediately defended myself in front of an entire office of people and again said, "I just wanted reassurance because I'm worried about my dog and you are condescending." He literally Told me to get out of his office. He followed me to my car outside mocking me saying "you said I was soooo mean....etc." I told him again that he is condescending and just left. It really is horrible to deal with the aging process for my sweet girl. The last thing I wanted was to have a grown man treat me in this manner. I'm appalled at his behavior. read more

I called to ask how much it would be to just see my puppy because I thought she may have parvo and was in tears. Some lady answered the phone put me on hold which I don't mind. Then asked what I needed and I explained to her I needed a vet to see my puppy but I don't have more than 100 til I get paid the following Friday. She cut me off and told me it would be 200 upfront. I asked if she knew of any vet that would see my dog for less just to check her out and she said no all require 200 or more and hung up on me!!!!! I went to Northside Clinic in Cleburne and they were absolutely amazing and looked at my puppy and talked to me and turned out she didn't have parvo or anything! Just because they took the time to talk to me and actually see my dog!!!! I'll never go or recommend this horrible place to anyone. So rude! read more

My family and I took my dog in this past week to get neutered. The surgery went fine how ever they did not want to put a cone on my dog. They only gave him Neosporin for his wound and said to make sure he doesn't lick his scrotum because it could get infected. He is a dog for crying out loud his natural instinct is to lick his wounds. Because of their lack of common sense my dog now has an infection and needs a second surgery which is $1,200. This is flat out outrageous! If my dog does not get his surgery he may die. This experience has been a nightmare all because these so called "professionals" did not want to give my dog a cone after his surgery. Please, please, please do not take your pets to this place. Please save your selves the heartache. Also please keep my dog in your prayers! read more

If you are faced with the very tough, heart wrenching decision to put your pet to sleep please do not bring them to this clinic. We did so and I absolutely regret it and wished we would have spent the extra money to have kinder, more compassionate care. Instead my elderly dog spent her last moments in agonizing pain. He was extremely unprofessional, flat our rude and argued with us about our decision to put our sweet dog, Sophie, to sleep and made us feel extremely awkward and upset. Telling us she was very ill, which obviously we knew hence the reason we were there and hoping to peacefully end her suffering. He decided he needed to go ahead and examine her even though we had asked he not and just to please let her go in peace. But he poked and prodded without our consent and once he realized after he jammed a plastic stick up her rear very rough and saw what we had been telling him, only then did he accept our wishes. He and his staff are all very uncaring and rude. A simple "I'm sorry for your loss" would have gone far. I would hope that someone who is taking care and treating our beloved pets would go above and beyond to provide fantastic service, I can only imagine if he was as rude to us to our faces, how he is with all the sweet pets behind closed doors. If you're looking for a warm, friendly and welcoming place I would advise you to keep searching because this is not the place you want to take your fur baby, run far far away from here. It may be cheap but it's cheap for a very bad reason. Our family is now left feeling very confused and hurt over an inconsiderate doctor and his staff. read more

I would just like to say how much I love my new vet! After years of struggling to get health care for my large dog, who goes into theatrics, when visiting the vet, I have finally found a vet who doesn't freak out when I bring in my roadshow. Dr. Rice handled the situation with grace and humor. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have found Dr. Rice. He is so much more knowledge than any vet I've been too, and his prices are so reasonable. His staff is just wonderful, and we receive the best of care from the front desk to the exam room. So, if you have a giant baby like me, Dr Rice is who you want to see, because Dr. Rice employs a staff of strong vet techs, and I believe it took at least three of those young men to place and hold Justice on the exam table. Another thing that amazed me was, when I called the nice lady at the front desk, and I told her I had a follow-up question, she said, she'd ask Dr. Rice, and to my amazement it was actually Dr. Rice who called me back to answer all my questions! I had no idea that there were actually vets nowadays who'd care enough to return client's calls personally. That's just down-home, southern hospitality at it's best! I just couldn't be more impressed, and I adore his sweet office staff too, they are just the nicest ladies you'll ever meet. Justice just had an urgent health matter, and Dr. Rice was double booked two weeks straight, and the sweet gal at the front desk graciously worked in an emergency visit, and I was so thankful, because I don't know any vet who is willing to treat Justice. read more

I am sending in this complaint in hopes that no one ever has to go through what I have trying to get medical attention for my two Mini Yorkies. I have used Rice Animal Clinic for years even before the two Yorkies I have now and they are 9 yrs old and 6 years old. My previous two dogs passed away at ages 14 and 13 and were under Dr. Rice's care as well. I had problems with them with my first two and thought because I only really had to see them once a year for shots or maybe twice if they had their teeth cleaned that I could deal with it but it is ridiculous to have a vet that won't even see your pets in an emergency or when something is wrong. They never try to work you in when you call. Like today I called to see if they would see Minimop and the lady that answered said what's wrong with her and after I explained she said well the doctor isn't in today, (And why am I not surprised) Then she said, he's booked up for the next several weeks. I said OMG every time I call when there is a problem I can't get them in, what's the use in having a Vet for years if you can't get in when there's a problem. I told her I was going to file a complaint against them and write a bad review. I told her I didn't like her attitude and that I was concerned because our dogs can't talk and tell you what's wrong and that they always treated us like "it's no big deal or sorry." She said look DEAR I'm trying to help you, and I said calling me DEAR isn't helping me. Most clinics have times set aside for emergencies or will try to work you in. I never get that from y'all, just like when my little poodle had a blown anal gland and was bleeding all over the place, I didn't know what was wrong with her and all y'all could do AGAIN is say we're booked he can see you next week (6-7 days later). She could have been dead by then and they didn't care. I ended up taking her to another vet and found out what it was and she was stitched up. After this go round I decided to call another vet and am switching because of the poor quality service and because there have been times when I didn't think he knew what he was doing. He always bashing other clinic for what they charge and some of their treatments but at least they are trying to take care of their patients and that's more than I can say for him and his office. I love my pets enough to not want them to be treated this way. If you really want your pet taken care of don't take them to Rice Animal Clinic in Burleson TX. I AM DONE! read more

One time is all it took, I will NEVER take another animal there. Had a 9am appt for my dog who needed some tests run for a possible UTI so samples needes to be taken... Something that should be able to be waited on to happen. When she was seen she was very worked up so they sedated her and asked to keep until the afternoon. fine. 3pm and we do not here anything so we call. The woman who picked up said she would check and call back.. an HOUR later and we still did not hear anything. I was at work so my roommate went there. Got there about 4:15.. it was only then when the vet was bringing out another dog and saw him that he rushed back to get the samples from my dog..she was out by like 3:30 . so getting whatever they needed did not take long once they actuality did it.. again it was not until the vet saw my roommate there that this happened. Like he forgot my dog.. She was there all day for something that took about 15 minutes when they actually decide to do the job.. read more
