See my review of the sister restaurant "next door" we went to two days earlier…read moreYea, it is worth the hype. For what you are getting coming out of the US this is a deal. Great atmosphere, perfect service, waiter did great job staring me To a local Merlot that was fantastic, musty, slightly tannic, 1100 crowns. I had braised rabbit in a mustard cream sauce, wife had braised veal cheeks which apparently on of the most popular. Beef tartar for app which perfect French bread toast. 3500 crowns all in, was way more than worth it. You need to make reservations in advance. We had to work to get in at 8:30 three days before- and we went on a Monday night. Chef apparently has a local CZ show which makes him celebrity. Strongly recommend

Cafe Imperial was recommended to us as a fancy, high-end spot for desserts. We happened to be in…read morethe neighborhood and decided to stop by. The space itself is grand and beautiful, but the experience went downhill immediately. The hostess seemed to wield all the power in the room--no smile, barely any eye contact, just a curt and judgmental "no reservation." The restaurant was far from full. She then added, "I only have a side table for you," as if that were some sort of compromise. We accepted. At first glance, the waiters looked well presented, but with a bit more observation, the illusion faded. Some had sagging pants, untucked shirts, and most concerning, repeatedly inappropriate hand placement while on the floor. It happened more than once, which was uncomfortable and distracting (see photo). Overall, the place feels very pretentious without delivering on substance. The food wasn't anything special, and the desserts were average at best and certainly not worth the hype or the attitude. I wouldn't recommend Cafe Imperial to friends, especially if you're expecting a warm welcome or standout desserts.

How can you not try a place with a name like that? Saw the bras hanging as we walked in, made me chuckle. We were seated right away, in a small room with a fair amount going on. I picked the Jim Morrison along with the fries and lovely K had the Janis Joplin, also with fries. Both choices were a very good sized portion with a good amount of fries. The JM stated it's spicy, and it was indeed so. The JJ is also a good sized portion, but it had too much going on for K. What really let the meal down was the fries. They were not hot, and had been cooked too long. The outside was crispy with a good crunch, but the interior was not what we were looking for. Could have been epic with nice fries, but they missed the mark by just a bit.

Great food, great ambience, great decor, incredibly rude staff. Considering this is an American…read morethemed restaurant influenced by American culture and named after an American actor, you would think they would have a little more acceptance of Americans. Nope. The wait staff just looked annoyed by our sheer presence. What sealed its fate was when we simply questioned a difference in what we ordered versus what was on the menu and the waitress responded with "Well, you should have asked." As the wait staff and expert of the menu and food served, I think instead of me asking, she should have asked if I preferred or knew that all juices and lemonades were served with sparkling water, not still water. Especially since that wasn't specified anywhere on the menu nor included under the drink's description or ingredients. Wasn't aware I was supposed to know, or even ask, if my lemonade would include sparkling water. I travel all over the world and have even lived in several countries, and no other place that I've been to has ever used sparkling water for juice or lemonade. If this were some authentic Czech restaurant serving Czech cuisine, I would consider and accept the possibly of sparkling lemonade being the norm. But if you're going to name your establishment James Dean and have menu items called "Texas Burger" and "Burrito" I don't appreciate the attitude or lecture as if ALL lemonades are made with sparkly water and I'm the American idiot who should have specified that I wanted it otherwise...She offered to make me a new lemonade with regular water but made it clear that the untouched bubbly lemonade would still have to be paid for. Too bad, and ironic, that it just took one waitress in an American themed restaurant who had very little tolerance with Americans or else I would have gladly given this place 5 stars.
