My opinion remains the same after my horrible experience...no one should go to Apex. Ever. And is it true the Dr. Daniel Chun who was working at Apex recently had his dentist license suspended? I was treated by him there and I had complaints. An absolutely terrible experience for me. I won't go back to Apex. And told them I wouldn't. They didn't do anything. But strangely the Arlington office called me months later this past July to tell me Dr. Chun wasn't working in that office anymore and asked if I wanted to come back since he was gone. Wow. I asked if he was no longer working for Apex, and they told me he was, just in another office. I refuse to go to a dental office that employs him at all. Clearly they knew I left because of him yet no one contacted me about it until he left? Not an office I want to trust. Even if Dr. Chun isn't there anymore.

Update as of March 2026: I learned today that the Virginia Dental Board recently revoked the…read morelicense of Dr. Daniel Chun, the lead dentist at Apex Dental Care. According to the complaint, Chun performed unnecessary dental work (including crowns and implants) on patients, billed patients for procedures that were not performed, and threatened other doctors in his practice who spoke out. However, I do really commend the dentists at the practice who filed a complaint against Chun and the investigator who did such a thorough job of assembling records and documenting Chin's malpractice.

The dental staff take the time to explain what they plan to do before treatment start. They will explain what they are doing and approximately how long it will take before getting started. This is a big deal for me since I sometime get nervous when I get in the chair. While in the chair, Dr. Thompson's team are always attentive and take steps to minimize my level of discomfort. They do the same for my kids, making them feel comfortable. It's a big change from when I was little and feared visits to the dentist. My kids always look forward to their visit, they think Dr. Thompson's team are very nice.

I had a front tooth crown that I had been waiting for from my previous nightmare for over 4 months. Dr. Shirk assured me that we would get it taken care of with a local lab to match the shade. After a few tries (not the dentist's fault) but the lab, the lab finally got the shade right. Dr. Shirk would not stop until I was happy with the outcome and the shade matched to the rest of my teeth. I must say, I am impressed. Customer Service is very hard to find these days. Dr. Shirk goes above and beyond for his patients from my own experience. His assistant, Alex, is wonderful as well. I love walking into a dentist office where it's clean, the workers get along and are happy, and the dentist himself actually cares about his patient. Dr. Swanson had a method of numbing that gum and didn't feel any pain at all. Dr. Tran is my dentist. She also has the same method as Dr. Swanson. She is calm, comforting, and in control. I feel safe. Every one is courteous. It's comfortable to walk in their clinic. They had a clinic closed where I am, but they moved away about 30 minutes drive, but we decided to keep them.
