Odille, the hostess and owner, is warm and welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and decorated in a Provencal manner that is in keeping with the area. Castel Mireio is located in the midst of the some of the best wine country in the world in a village with great restaurants and good services and is close to Roman ruins and beautiful, historical perched villages. The restaurant at Castel Mireio offers a lovely breakfast with fresh crossants and delicious coffee on a pretty terrace when warm or the lovely, cozy dining room in winter, and traditional provencal lunches and dinners are available on the premises, as well. The house is very out of the way, quite hard to find among the windy roads and the road leading to…read moreit from the main road is bumpy. but this place is so worth it, set amongst vineyards in the South of France, the house sleeps 12 but is big enough for many more, an outside swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms, conservatory and large Sitting room as well as outdoor bbq area and large barn area. Stayed here for a week in the summer and had a fantastic time, the swimming pool is a good break from the sun and the house serves as a great base for exploring the countryside around it, 1hr from Bordeaux (approx) and about 30 mins from Bergerac there are absolutely loads of places to visit in the area. The kitchen in the house is massive, open plan to the sitting room so you can entertain in style (in winter, in summer you have got to sit outside!) and plenty of room for a few people to help with the cooking. Youll need it as the house sleeps 12, and theres plenty of room for more if you want a couch or floor space. The house is fully equipped, and all they ask is you leave it stocked like you find it, the shelves are full of books which people have left over the years, your encouraged to take one and leave one and the cupboards have all the essentials. The guest book is full of comments going back 20 years, so the past has seen many happy families and groups of friends rent it out I would recommend this for somewhere to stay if you have the money, perfect for a large family, or a group of friends to spread the cost. The hotel is perfectly situated as a base from which to explore the wine territories, the local sights and hiking in the nearby craggy Dentelles de Montmireille. Both the hotel and restaurant are run by Proprietor Thierry Bernard and his wife. The hotel setting is lovely and idyllic, set in a woods right at the base of the Dentelles (in fact the start of the hiking path up the hills is 300 yards further up the road. Rooms are decently-appointed and comfortable. The outdoor porch and yard also are lovely. Prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is a real standout, featuring top-notch local and French cuisine, skillfully prepared and immaculately presented. We ate there twice, and worked through various items on the menu. Its quite clear locals also dine there, which is not surprising, given its quality. In addition, the winelist is tremendous, and comprehensive, featuring not only wines from Gigondas and other southern Rhone distiricts, but also farther afield. In addition the famly also owns their own wineries, providing a very tempting "house" choice. Thierry is very good at helping diners select the best accompaniment for their meal. Overall we had a good experience at Les Florets. Our travel circumstances were slightly stressed by some earlier mishaps, and both Thierry and his wife were patient and helpful in trying to resolve the issues. Great hoteliers and splendid dinner hosts. I'd give the hotel 4 1/2 stars, and the restaurant 5 stars.

Upon our arrival, we were immediately consumed with the overall aesthetic and attention-to-detail that was given on this beautiful villa. This place had a true French vibe--all the way down to the mini cooper in the driveway, surrounded by terra cotta potted plants and a private, well secured courtyard. The rooms make you feel as though you've lived in France your entire life and you open up the windows to hear the sound of church bells. Our room had a back terrace with clear, open views of the sky. To me, this place is a must. If you find yourself in Avignon, you have to stay at the Villa Margot and enjoy the care taking by Meris. Her welcoming "petit fille" dog and roaming kitty were a great companion in the villa.

However, the two best things about this place aren't what you see on the web site at all. They are: (1) the pool, which is absolutely essential for twice-daily swims given the 100-degree weather in the middle of the summer, and (2) the hosts, who serve you a wonderful breakfast every day, and give you an itinerary of what to do every day -- mostly visiting small towns, tasting wine, and going out for excellent meals. In fact, you don't really need to plan your trip to Provence. You can basically just book your tickets, rental car, and a week at Le Clos and you're all set.

The surrounding was most lovely, definitely medieval, artisan, and countryside. But what we really recommend is the cuisine. Do not miss the chef Edward Cristaudo's menus, one 3-course, the other 6-course. Basically you chose the courses you desire from the general menu ... and off you go into the delicious world of Michelin-star like cuisine. Fresh produce, local inspiration and more classical French influences make for a marvelous and most enjoyable meal experience. Wines are most reasonably priced (as is the menu) and are well-discovered amongst the best local producers (there are other, non-regional wines on the menu, though) All of our connoisseur taste buds were delighted. The very competent, friendly and personal service was delightful AND classy, but never pretentious. Just a delightful break from the often stuffy Michelin-star service, without giving up the culinary quality, innovation and taste. We will certainly return to "Le Crillon".
