Dr. Blankenship was very friendly, but I was mortified when I received my bill of almost $450, after insurance, for a new patient visit. My husband had a new patient appointment with her the week before me, and he was charged $300, after insurance, for his appointment. The reason I was charged more was because Dr. Blankenship talked about medication with me. Literally just talking about a medication warranted another $150. She did prescribe a cream for melasma, which was $15 at the pharmacy, however now I owe $150 more just because we discussed it. If you are concerned about cost, I would advise asking about pricing before and during the visit. Our health care system is so broken. read more

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a dermatologist in the valley for an annual skin check. I found one close and booked an appointment. It was not until after the appointment I found out Vail Dermatology is part of a chain Epiphany Dermatology and does not provide preventative services. This was not mentioned when I checked in and was not mentioned on the website. On the website it is even listed as "This quick and painless preventive measure is an invaluable tool in the early detection of skin cancer as well as many other dermatological conditions." But they do not offer preventative care. They said there is a sign in the office stating they do not provide preventative care, but this sign was never pointed out. I was charged an exorbitant amount. More than any other dermatologist I have seen for an annual mole check. Just wanted others to be aware. Overall disappointing. read more

I tried to call Vail Dermatology in Edwards, but I could never get through to them. My calls kept going to voicemail. I decided I would stop by and look for the product Elta that I like. I walked in and there was one lady at the check in counter and one at the product desk I told them my calls kept going to voicemail. The lady behind the check in counter didn't seem to care at all. Then I asked if they carry the product, Elta. The lady behind the check in counter said no we don't in a rude and put out way. The other lady behind the product counter said, yes, we do. I looked and the product was on the shelf!! I asked the price of it, and it was like asking them to do too much. I will never go back again. Bad energy when I walked in. I used to go to Dr. Nern who is wonderful, but never again will I go to the Edwards office. Such a shame. read more

I went to get a treatment for melasma and paid a lot oj money for the treatment and i already had 2 treatments done and i see no difference at all. I told marisela that i really needed my melasma gone by next month because i was so embarrassed and my sell-esteem was so bad because of my melasma. But she never said that treatment may work or not. All she did was recommended me this treatment called clear brilliant laser. Also they recommend me 2 creams besides the treatment so what wad the point of paying all that money for the treatment if i also have to pay more money for expensive creams? Should be 0 stars but 1 is the lowest. My wife saw Claire Mann, at the Edwards Riverwalk Colorado location. They took a skin sample for my wife and sent it to an out of network lab. We now owe over $1,000 for this lab test because this company sent it to an out of network location. We have absolutely no control on where they send their samples so this is a mistake made by Vail dermatology. Their mistake is costing us so much money and there is nothing we can do about it because we get billed weeks after they sent the sample and at that point the test is done. My advice would be to not even mess with this location unless you are happy to burn your money because they don't take the few minutes to ensure your lab work stays in network. They have your insurance and they can check these things, but they don't. read more

I see at least THREE similar reviews to my experience where they attempted to make multiple, unnecessary appointments to generate revenue. Office staff is rude and irresponsible from the top down. The medical services provided by Dr Blankenship and her medical assistant was great. The billing has been an absolute total nightmare. They didn't bill my insurance and received a bill for the total amount. I've received multiple incorrect bills via email and regular mail. I've had to call at least 6 times to try to figure out if the insurance has been billed and what I owe and to try to freeze my account so they don't send me to collections. What a disaster the billing has been. I have never seen such absolute incompetence. One more thing to note, I requested an appointment with Dr Nern based on the high reviews/ratings but I was told she was "on leave". But when I reviewed my EOB's a few of the billed services listed her at the provider. I don't know if that's because she owns the practice or if there's some sort of fraud but I'm just going to report it to my insurance company. Do not go here, go ANYWHERE else. read more

While the staff and doctor I had were great billing was an absolute nightmare. I had my initial visit back in October. At which point I paid for my visit. Then I had my second visit to remove several moles. I was sent a bill about a month later which I had questions on. When I eventually had my questions answered I then went into the office to pay the balance. Which I was told was the "remaining balance". This should have been the end.... Instead I received another bill in the mail which I called about and when talking to the person in the office I was told that the statement was confusing and billing would be asked to call me to explain it within the week and that they would place a hold on my account until then. After waiting 3 weeks and calling 3 more times I finally spoke with billing who told me that even though I had already paid what I was told was the "remaining balance", I still owed money. At which point I went back into the physical location and paid the "remaining balance". While one might think that that would be the end of the story you would be wrong. Instead, a week later, I received another bill for the exact same amount which I am now told is a coincidence. The saga continued within the same manner with me calling, trying to pay the whole balance, going in physically, paying the "remaining balance", and then being told, I owe more money (4 times total) until eventually, my account was put in collections even though I gone in person to pay the "remaining balance" several days before that. As a long time local I do not say this lightly, but please do not go to Epiphany dermatology/Vail dermatology. While the doctors and staff that I interacted with in person were lovely.....The manager never called me even after being left notes to do so by the staff when I had valid concerns. And to sum it all up billing is an absolute dumpster fire. But feel free to go to this location and use this company if you don't mind surprise bills, bills that are split up and have no correlation with the services rendered. read more

To start, the staff here is amazing. Every single one is so kind, and informational when you have questions. They all make me feel comfortable and "at home" as best as you can feel while going to some sort of medical facility. Dr. Blankenship(spelling?) is seriously one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She helped me immensely in the last year and a half to get my issues figured out, and SOLVED. Dare I say I'm sad I won't have to continue my monthly visits to her office? I called and asked why they set me up for an appointment if the office was closed. Never received call back. They do not send text message reminders cause the staff is lazy to set up. *Buyer Beware* - "Absolute rip-off" is an understatement. I was charged $1290 for a single visit that lasted less than 10 minutes at their Aspen office on Spring Street. Hard-working locals -- even with good health insurance -- watch out! If I was the doc scamming peoples' money like this, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. AVOID THIS PLACE, unless money is no object for you & you don't mind undisclosed, shady business/billing practices. After the shocking bill for $1290 arrived, the billing gal -- who was helpful & understanding of my dismay -- applied a 20% discount to the portion denied by my insurance provider so... *I "only" ended up paying $942 for my less than 10-minute visit.* As an Aspen resident for 25 years, I will actively share my experience w/family, friends & review readers in hopes of helping others avoid getting ripped off like I did. **I got 9 "diagnoses" in less than 10 minutes.** Maybe the ridiculously high number of diagnoses is how I got the "Level 3" office visit price of $215? The way they run their business may be expedient in the short-term, and maybe since a lot of ppl in the area have a lot of money it will work in the long run, but even if I had unlimited amounts of money I would GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, as they are NOT TRUSTWORTHY. The doc casually & reprehensibly UP-SELLED the heck out of me with no mention of actual costs involved, i.e. unnecessary biop$ies? CHA-CHING!! The doc was not even competent when it came to addressing my primary concern -- more details below.*** When I called and found out they took my insurance, I booked an appt to have a persistent wart on my finger treated. At the appointment the doctor looked at my finger for literally 1-2 seconds and said, "You don't have a wart; it's already gone." (No it's not, more below.)*** Since I was there, I had her take a mole off my back that kept getting tugged while dressing. When she said, "Do you want that biop$ied?", I thought sure, why not. I also asked her to look at a small pindot-sized bump on the top of my foot b/c my primary doc said there's a chance it could be skin cancer. The dermo said, "It does not look like skin cancer; I can remove it. Want it biop$ied?" Just to be certain, I figured, sure, why not? Q: WHY NOT? A: BECAUSE IT WILL COST YOU NEARLY $700 TO DO SO. There was *zero professionally responsible advice from the doctor* as one would expect -- such as, "No real red flags here, so biopsies are unnecessary, especially since it could cost several hundred dollars and your insurance may or may not cover any of it." OR, "This looks suspicious, so despite the cost -- potentially up to nearly $1000 -- you should get biopsies." Instead of receiving proper professional guidance, I was taken for every penny. Removing the mole and the pindot-sized bump (which turned out to be scar tissue) took less than 3 minutes for both. Cost = $375, PLUS the lab cost for the biopsies = $490. My insurance kicked in $187 toward the labs so I paid $302 for them. *TOTAL out-of-pocket expense for 2 unnecessary removals & biopsies = $677. OUCH! Would have hurt less to have my boyfriend slice them off with a rusty razor blade.* The doc took 1-2 minutes to freeze a plantar wart on a toe that I would have happily treated myself for $10 or less if I was **fairly informed** that I was going to be charged $235 to have her do it. The doc looked over my body in 2 minutes & said I don't have skin cancer. Thank God for that, although she also said I don't have a wart on my finger, which I still do, so who knows how competent & credible any of it is... ***After paying the bill of $942 for a single visit (did I mention it was less than 10 minutes?...) I'm still left to deal with the wart on my finger - which was the reason for my visit in the first place. read more

I went to Vail Dermatology in January 2021 for some bumps I had on my face. The doctor told me to use a lotion and it would go away and then she told me that she could burn this with liquid nitrogen, but never mentioned there would be an extra charge. My face got infected from this and I had to take antibiotics. I got billed for this and when I complained they said they would take care of it. More than a year later (14 months later), I called to make an appointment and they didn't have availability. The day after I called they started sending me emails and letters that I had an outstanding balance and if I didn't pay it it would got o a collecting agency. I called and no one seems to care or help me about this. I am never going back and don't recommend them. There are better services out there! read more

I have had terrible experience with this place - do not go here. Go to Denver, or go to Mountain Derm. They sent me to collections over an outstanding balance that was paid. When I received the collections notice I called to let them know that it it was not correct. They apologized and confirmed I had no outstanding balance. I then received another collections notice and called again. They confirmed it was taken care of and would let the collections agency know. Fast forward to over a year later and I tried to make an appointment. They told me I could not until I cleared up an outstanding balance. They made me call a billing department who then confirmed that I did NOT have an outstanding balance. In addition to all of the billing problems and errors, the appointments I have had there have been rushed and I felt like I wasn't listened to and my concerns were brushed off. I am glad I have discovered Mountain Derm so I no longer have to go to this terrible clinic. read more

Avoid this office! I made an apptment for an annual check up, but the receptionist just booked me to have a spot looked at. I had to make another appointment and pay again to have a full body check because the receptionist MADE A MISTAKE. But it gets worse. Someone called me after the apptment and told me I had STAGE 2 MELANOMA. I got a second opinion, and it WASN'T. The dermatologist said that was like telling someone with a sore throat they were HIV positive. The office called me to see if I wanted to schedule an apptment to have it treated and I said, "No. I have had too many miscommunications with your office." She said, "OK, no problem, bye." They just don't care. Besides all that, I had a treatment on my nose years ago, and now it is irreparably scarred and looks like hamburger meat. Do yourself a favor and find another dermatologists before you get scarred too. read more

I called for a consultation for my daughter who was experiencing a severe acne outbreak. After seeing Dr. B in the Edwards office for approx. 20 minutes, I received a bill for $515.00. The doctor said she was charging for extensive counseling. What is a consultation then? We did not ask more than a few questions!! $515!!!! for asking a few questions. After a few diet changes and a few weeks, my daughter's skin began to clear. If we had decided to move forward on the treatments she suggested, we would have probably paid thousands and subjected my daughter to treatment she didn't even need. After many phone calls to Vail office and corporate billing, and even a message left for the doctor (unreturned), they would not change the billing status to charge me for a consultation only. read more

Love the ambiance of the office. The front desk is amazing gracious and welcoming the moment you step into the office. Dr. Nern was very understanding and helpful to my treatment. She knew what to say to me in order for me to clearly understand the Medical part of my treatment. I also got a facial from Jessica who is a fabulous and talented esthetician. She gave me the upmost treatment to my skin and I felt like we were friends after I left. I received treatment and 7 days later got a message that my test results for two biopsy's was in. After leaving 2 messages that were left unreturned And 4 days later I actually went to the Willits office to get my results. I was handed my Derm Report and asked if I'd like to make an apt to discuss the results. I said no, I would like to have a call from a nurse or the doctor before I paid for another $$$ appt. still waiting. 2 days later. The cosmetic manager is absolutely full of herself and doesnt know anything about her job. I went in during the anniversary sale and she did not give me the time of day. Maybe i didnt look like one of her beaver creek second home owner clients. I asked for a recommendation on a moisturizer and she showed me a $32 nothing that was full of perfume and didnt even consider showing me something nicer. She acted like I was wasting her time. Do yourself a favor, get better care for way less money, including your gas, by driving to Denver. They also try to hardsell you on their own private pharmacy, including a "skin softener" she said I need for callouses on my feet, not that these were a problem or anything I consulted her about. Love everything about this place. The staff is very friendly and personable. The office is beautiful and they have a really nice desk you can buy useful skin products at. My dermatologist Sarah Youngblood is one of the best. She knows what she is doing and is very knowledgable in her field. I've had to go to many dermatologists in my life time and she is the only one that actually prescribed me stuff that works. If something isn't working she will help adjust the skin care regimen to my needs and is very understanding. I would recommend her to anyone who needs skin care help especially young women struggling with acne. I don't usually write reviews but thought I should because they deserve it. Thumbs up. read more
