Nearly every pet owner we spoke to in Edwards and Vail, referred us to Dr. Charlie Meynier at Vail Valley Animal Hospital. Our poor boy, Jasper, who also goes by the name, Senor Pepe, suffers from chronic ear infection common to the Golden Doodle breed. Vail Valley is our second home and our local vet where we live mostly, is extremely capable and experienced. He had been working on Senor Pepe for a year, methodically ruling out one thing after another, trying numerous remedies and antibiotics and ear cleansers. We usually got results that appeared to be positive, but always fleeting. Since we brought Senor Pepe with us up to Edwards, and he had a major recurrence, we decided to give Dr. Meynier a call. We were delighted with the responsiveness of the office staff, as this was mid-summer when Covid was raging. We were able to get an appointment right away. We brought Senor Pepe down, called when we were in the parking lot, and were greeted quickly by an assistant, who explained the process and brought Senor Pepe into the office while I waited outside listening to Billie Joe Shaver on Spotify. In about a half hour, Dr. Meynier came out to the car with Senor Pepe, and spent a half hour with me talking about canine ear infections and different ways to treat them. He confided that sometimes, just due to the breed, the climate, the environment, and the individual, there is little to be done. May of the things he discussed had already been tried without long-term success, but he had numerous new ideas, too, which we implemented. While I'd love to say that we had better success with Dr. Meynier's treatment or new ideas that we tried at home, we did not. We are pretty much resigned that short of surgery, which we'd like to avoid, that we will just have to treat Senor Pepe's symptoms best we can. The point of this review is not the outcome, but rather the genuine care and concern Dr. Meynier expressed and his generosity of time, explaining to me the causes and treatments of ear infections. Even though we are still dealing with this medical issue, I'm delighted that whenever we travel to Vail Valley with Senor Pepe, he has a great place to receive his ear treatments or emergency care by a super vet! Avoid this clinic. Read the reviews on google as well! They have done the same thing to two other dogs like mine. I'm not letting this happen to other animals. Had an emergency while in vail! The worse experience ever! This business run and thrive only based on money no care so avoid it. I had no problem paying however: -they wanted to take Xray from the beginning -they gave us two different probiotics while I tell them my pet had been having diarrhea and vomiting a bit. -they kept wanting to get Xray and abdominal ultrasound without checking fecal first. -they had told me they have to send the fecal sample to outside lab and for testing after I kinda forced them to run it the second day. -I had to fight a lot and whole lot more ... Dear Dr. Duncan, this is not the way to treat and provide care! My problem was not money but I did not want to skip the first steps and jump into taking Xray as I had to put my little dog under! Our dogs and family suffered needlessly due to the inaction of Vail Animal Hospital! Our dog Max was seen here last Wednesday because he had been suffering from diarrhea for 2.5 days. The vet charged $300 for an office visit where they provided anti-diarrheal medications and a probiotic. I had passed on the additional $300 in blood work the vet recommended to check for pancreatitis since we were headed back home to Texas on Friday and I could take him to my home vet then. I called my vet in Texas when the medication provided by Vail Animal Hospital had no effect by Friday and the infection had spread to my other dog. My vet first asked if Vail Animal Hospital had performed a fecal analysis- THEY HAD NOT. They then recommended that I call Vail Animal Hospital and ask them to call in a prescription for Flagyl (metronidazole), a commonly prescribed medication for GI infections in dogs. My vet said that it was likely an infection (not pancreatitis) since it had obviously spread to a second dog. They could not call in the prescription in Colorado. I called Vail Animal Hospital and after explaining the situation to them and arguing with them about the need for an antibiotic to get us through the 14 hour drive home later that day, THEY STILL REFUSED TO CALL IN A RECOMMENDED $8 PRESCRIPTION UNTIL I CAME IN AND SPENT ANOTHER $300 WITH THEM FOR NEEDLESS BLOODWORK! My vet called the prescription into a pharmacy in northern Texas that we picked up on the way home. Within 24 hours of being on the recommended antibiotic, the diarrhea of both dogs had slowed. They were back to normal within 48 hours and eating much better. The Vail Animal Hospital refused to follow recommended practice, likely due to unfounded concerns about the overprescription of antibiotics (our vet tells us there is no scientific reason for this). I spent 6 days cleaning up after a poor dog that needlessly suffered because Vail Animal Hospital refused to listen to follow good medical practice and then prolonged that suffering by refusing to listen to reason without me spending additional money with them. I will not use their services again when we are traveling to our place in CO. read more

My first experience today with these lovely humans. Waiting room was very chill. Great first impressions. Receptionist, Kinga, was warm and immediately greeted myself and my 5 year old tabby. We were early so we got to see a happy puppy leaving with his two happy looking owners. Kinga was happy to answer all of my questions and was very knowledgeable. Once in the waiting room, I was surprised to notice cat scratching posts to make my friend more comfortable. Couldn't believe that he was purring the entire check up. Sarah the vet technician took our information and was speedy and warm. Apologizing for the delay as there was a pupmergency in the other room. But there was very much not a delay. Dr. Leape came in the room and they administered two vaccines with magic to the point that my cat friend didn't stop purring. Dr. Leape you are an artist and you have an excellent staff. 10/10 will recommend. The entire scheduled appointment lasted less than 40minutes. read more

I brought my 15 year old Maltese for extreme bloody diarrhea. He had been having issues for 2 days and we were exhausted from sleepless nights taking him out and cleaning up disasters and it was getting worse. He wasn't eating and was lethargic. Dr. Leape examined him and proceeded with a very condescending lecture on his dental status. I had been informed by another doctor, that related to his age he was no longer safe to go under anesthesia for teeth cleaning. But that's not what we were there for. Finally she addressed his bleeding and was going to keep him for a few hours to run tests and give home fluids for dehydration. When we picked him up a few hours later the bill was a whopping $1000. Labs, x-ray, extra charge for urgent care, fluids under the skin, an anti-nausea med (he had never thrown up during this time) and flagyl and some to take home, a probiotic powder at $50 and can of gastro dog food at $10. NO ANTI-DIARRHEAL. (One of the technicians was very sweet a washed the bloody towel we brought him wrapped up in.) and after $1000 bill, We still had another terrible night with extreme bloody diarrhea. NO ONE CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO CHECK ON HIM. I finally called at lunch time to see if I could get an anti-diarrheal and Dr. Leape told me she did not see a need for that and to wait and see how he was that afternoon and she would call back before evening to see how he was. NO FOLLOW-UP phone call. When we got his notes on his care, she wrote a whole paragraph on "age is not a disease and going on about dental disease/care and contradicting the other doctor's advice". WHAT? Really? The next day after another terrible night it was recommended by someone else that a small dose of Imodium and staying on the flagyl. Also feeding my dog small frequent meals of whatever he would eat as he wasn't touching the canned food/probiotic. Lo and behold, my dog was finally better the next day and no more diarrhea or sleepless nights. And as of today he is even better and almost back to his old self and no more diarrhea and is eating again. We never received any follow up phone calls from Vail Valley Animal Hospital nor the one stated from Dr. Leape and after spending $1000 he continued with issues for 2 days before having seek help else where. I'm giving a 1 star for the sweet tech who washed the bloody towel. read more

Over the weekend, a dog I am dog-sitting got bit by another dog, tearing a piece of ear off. The altercation was incredibly stressful, and I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Olivia Jerrems of Vail Valley Animal hospital in Edwards for her incredible help, honesty about associating costs, and overall care in the moment. As a dog-sitter and not full-time dog owner, this is my first time dealing with a situation of this magnitude, and Dr. Jerrems provided the dog in question with excellent care, answered all of my (probably repetitive due to my lack of experience) questions, and... frankly, in an emergency I am so so appreciative of her help, and Sydney's (she worked at the front desk, not sure her title) help. While expensive (what can you expect out here in the valley) the doctors and incredibly professional, full of knowledge, and made my panicked self much more calm in a first-time situation for me. Vail Valley Animal hospital is unacceptable. Brought my dog for a dental cleaning and when I brought him home he was licking all his paws. With further examination I saw that they trimmed his nails too short causing the quicks to be exposed and signs of bleeding/dry blood. When I called about it they said that his quicks were too long, bleeding was "normal" and didn't apologize for hurting him. They never mentioned to me that that is part of the procedure or notified me of what happened upon pick up. His nails did not need to be trimmed as I do it at home at least twice a month. Also they missed one of his nails so they obviously weren't paying attention or had done a good job. I will never put my trust in these people/ this company again. read more

We were on vacation in Vial when our dog Maggie's face swelled up a day before our departure. We could not figure out if she got bitten by something or it was allergic reaction. We google vet in the area and took here here. The whole staff at the clinic was amazing Wonderful nurse and both doctors that we saw were amazing. The front desk lady was so so sweet. We ended up coming back second time,at 11 pm( thank God this has emergency services and its open all night) since after benadryl the swelling did not go down but it got bigger. Dr Charlie Meynier was the doctor we saw at night. He was amazing and caring and so kind. Even though he was there like 14 hours that day and just got out of surgery he took care of Maggie wonderfully. I wish I could give him 10 stars and we did not live in NYC. He would be Maggies doctor. There is probably thousands vets in NY but none of them even compares to this doctor. You can always tell when someone really does it from the heart. I was not at all pleased with what happened when I tried boarding my dog with you for 1 day. Even though I had all of his records, I was required to have a vet exam and additional shots even though he wasn't yet due. All of this just in order to board for a day while we skied. When my dog was brought out to us in the afternoon (we only boarded him for about 4 hours), he was not a happy pup. I will never board there again. read more

I can't tell you how happy I was with Dr Justin Milizio. He was wonderful with my GSP. I had taken Riggins to another local vet with his skin issues ,which turned out to be mites, and they were not able to diagnose for over 2 months after spending all sorts of $$ on wipes and other treatments. Within 10 minutes he diagnosed Riggins. He explained everything and even let me see under the microscope. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that it was a little pricey. But good care is worth it! I was blown away that Avon Hospital had not even considered mites. Really a shame my dog had to suffer for 3 months with these things. Thank you Justin! read more

Only can take care of healthy animals. If your dog is sick they will miss everything. No ultrasound available. NO 24 hour care. Should not be recognized as even a vet hospital. Poorest coldest care ever! And then the fake "oh I am so sorry for your loss." They misdiagnose and offer no care for sick dogs. Truly the worst! Then they hit you with a big bill. I think the service was as good as can be expected for Covid curb-side. It's prob time to let people go back inside now. The mark-up on the medication is outrageous. I was charged $106.95 for optimmune ophthalmic ointment. On Chewy it's only $47.99. I understand is very expensive living in the mountains (all other services on my bill are double what you'd pay in Denver) but I'm not sure I can get my head around the doggie drug mark-up. read more

The Edwards branch (neighbor town) of this Avon Vail Valley Animal Hospital treated our pup so bad when cleaning her ear that she went hyper ventilating and scratching the door. We have been to vets with her before, with the same ear, and they all loved her - she is from a show dog family and her mellow personality is lovable. Steer away from these people, they also charged us $262 for this traumatic treatment. read more

My one and only interaction with this clinic is threefold. 1. The staff and Dr. Charlie are very nice, professional and certainly seem quite competent. They have great technology available onsite. 2. The up-sell is uncomfortable. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. 3. Their prices are outrageous. I found myself defending my decision to not pursue their suggested treatment plan. The animal is practically end of life, yet they suggested tests that would have made no difference. In summary, they're great people just doing their jobs and running a business. What a great place! I recently moved here, and had to find a vet. My beautiful boxer had developed a tumor on her forehead. A woman from the Pet Boutique recommended them. Five stars, although our story has a very sad ending. Our 10-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, Hank, had a recurrence of a nasal tumor that he had received radiation treatments for a year ago. Although we have always known that the tumor would probably recur after 6-18 months, it happened quickly and Hank's conditioned deteriorated over 48 hours, causing a brain lesion that led to severe and worsening neurological symptoms. Dr. Justin Milizio did a thorough history, was familiar with nasal tumors such as Hank's, examined Hank gently and thoroughly (although Hank was panicky) and explained our options clearly. We chose to end Hank's suffering with great sadness but with confidence that he had received excellent treatment and had been handled with gentleness and compassion by both Dr. Milizio and our vet tech Claudia (?). read more

My dog & I are new to the Vail Valley. It was time for his annual dental cleaning. I called several vet offices, to find some wanted as much as $400-500 for the procedure. Steve's did an excellent job for much less, we were able to schedule the appointment within the week, and my dog was ready to come home just 2.5 hours after I dropped him off. He was well-recovered from his anesthesia, and was bouncy on our afternoon walk. I was very impressed with Steve's office & highly recommend their services!! read more

Dr Charlie Menyier has an ego too big to understand how disappointed we are in our dogs last visit to his clinic. Our little shih Tsu ended up having a 6 inch blade of grass caught in his nose that they completely missed! My husband had to pull it out 15 hours after they released our dog from their clinic and over $1000 in costs! Instead of offering us a discounted rate for his negligence, he offered nothing but a phone call throwing around EMPTY medical nouns and verbs's.
