She loved it--never seen her happier. Walkin' the dog was also incredibly accommodating, easy to speak to, and just genuinely cared about the well being of my pup. We left our puppy, Juno, here for daycare while we were snowboarding in Beaver Creek. It was her first time at daycare, but we heard great things about this facility so we felt good about leaving her for 5-6 hours. We got a great report, she had a blast playing with the other dogs and came home worn out. The next day, however, she woke up gagging and soon threw up half of a tennis ball (rubber and all). We were disappointed in knowing she hadn't been watched closely enough, wherein she was able to eat half a ball without being noticed. That was a little less than two weeks ago. Today we had to hospitalize her after she was up all night gagging, vomiting, and shaking profusely. She was diagnosed with kennel cough, which turned into pneumonia. Our vet said it was undoubtedly caused by another dog she interacted with at daycare, given that she was previously vaccinated for kennel cough and only experienced symptoms after being at daycare. Thousands of dollars in vet bills later, needless to say, Juno will never be returning to Walkin the Dog. We hope whoever took their ill dog to daycare will consider being less selfish in the future, and that the daycare is much more careful in how they screen and watch over their clients. read more

10 out of 10 would bring my dog back here again. My whole family was invited to Vail, CO for a New Year's wedding but our lodging wasn't dog friendly... so the search for a dog sitter began. I did some yelp/ Google searching and found Walkin' The Dog to be fairly close to Vail and highly rated. I then called and after speaking to the staff/ owners I felt like this place would be a perfect fit. Right before our trip a coworker who had watched Jax over Christmas insisted that we let her keep him over New Year's weekend as well, but I was so excited for the road trip with my dog and the adventure he'd have at Walkin' The Dog that I said no (even though she's free and fantastic). I think we made the right decision because when I picked him up he was healthy, happy, and ready to nap pretty much the whole ride home to TX. How cute! Plus, Marisa and Merrill + staff did a great job of communicating with me the whole trip. Furthermore, pricing was very reasonable. I really enjoyed my experience with this particular boarding service. Make sure to book in advance especially around holidays because I hear they book up fast! read more

A successful business really comes down to the people that run it. Merrill and Marissa just might be the two nicest are caring people you'll ever meet; and if you want to find out for yourself, just stop by their shop and talk to them for a few minutes. These are the sort of folks you will feel entirely comfortable leaving to care for your pet while you can't. Walkin' the Dog does more than just look after your dog at their wonderful location. Heck they even look after cats and will do so at your home. I employed their services to do just that while I was away on vacation and they took perfect care of my 2 female cats. Merrill took time to even play with the cats for a little while in addition to the typical duties. What really impressed me is that you really get the sense that they care. They'll ask a lot of questions to make sure everything is done the way you want it. Merrill even stopped by my place before I left for vacation to go over the required services. On top of everything else, their pricing is entirely affordable. I will happily pay for their services again, as I can go away for a week or two without a worry in my mind about well-being of my loved ones. Walking the dog is by far the best. I live in California and came to Vail for the week. I left my dog (100lb female mix named Latte) with Merissa and Merrill for a couple days. Everyone I spoke to in the village said that I made the right choice with Walking the Dog. Not only are Merissa and Merrill two of the most knowledgeable and competent people when it comes to dog behaviour they knew just what Latte needed. When I picked her up she was tired and happy. And even though I was a bit hesitant about how she would interact with all the other dogs I was reassured by watching how Merissa and her employees kept a fun but firm control over every dog inside. BUT, one day I picked up my dogs and was told that there was a dog who had kennel cough, the day before. Had I known, not being a working person, I never would have left my dogs. I told Merissa that displaying a sign, or revealing this would have been appropriate. She became hostile, told me that perhaps I shouldn't come back, and in spite of my insistence, would not take my payment - sounds nice, but was hostile. She's a tough person to deal with. And, in spit of medication, my dog was EXTREMELY sick. When your daycare has a problem, they should close, call, email, etc. AND CLOSE UNTIL THE PREMISES ARE CLEANED! read more

We are grateful to have been friends and clients of this wonderful business over the past 15 years. Our first Golden, Chloe Francis passed from old age at 12 years. During her life she attended "play school" three times weekly and excitedly knew where she was going several miles before we arrived. In addition she spent countless overnights at their beautiful landscaped home, as do all dogs who board overnight with owners Marissa and Merrill Lahman. Our new puppy, Blossom is also a regular and loves playing with her puppy friends. The dogs are always happy and closely supervised in this spotless, pristine facility. Never have I been aware of ANY dog becoming sick at any time during over 15 years. As for the snowboarders whining in a previous mean spirited review, this is a lie. Hope they never come back to Colorado, ever. This business does not use or provide play toys, including balls. The dogs are too busy running in the beautiful outside dog run and having fun playing with their friends. This business does provide well trained and caring employees, many who have worked there for years. They are awesome and exceptional. read more

I am writing this review as I too have witnessed Marissa being completely unreasonable and overly hostile. She is more interested in being aggressive to clients who pay high dollar than listening to solutions which might make it easier for those who are paying for this "service". I guess with an extremely overcrowded daycare, customer service isn't a priority. The daycare is staffed by mostly younger staff and it is difficult to speak with someone in the morning as there is constant stream of people dropping off their dogs. I usually would have someone pick up my dog in the afternoons as I live in Vail but on the rare occasion I would go by early, I often found my dog leashed to a crate with an explanation that he was "running around too much." I was bothered by that but let it slide. When my punch card ran out, I was given a call my Marissa to renew and gladly gave her my credit card. She waited 3 weeks to run it. Unfortunately, she attempted to do that on the same day I had several new construction projects hit and was over my limit. This could have been handled with a conversation but instead she cussed me out and told me never to return. No problem there, I had already spent over 5k at her business and was happy to take my business to someone who actually appreciate it....and had an actual client portal and payment system in place. I encouraged her to take a look at how she accepted payment, but naturally she did not want to hear about it. She is abrasive and very difficult to interact with. I just can't say enough about these people! They are amazing. I have never felt so comfortable leaving my dog with anyone in my life. I use them for dog walking services a few times a month. They simply come to my home while I am at work and take Draper (120 lbs Bernese Mountain Dog) on a hike and bring him back happy and tired. Walkin the dog is by fat the BEST daycare/boarding facility that our puppy, Jackson, has ever been to. We live in Boulder and often travel to Vail for a weekend here or there. We were looking for a place that would watch Jackson while we went skiing. Although this place is a bit pricey - it is absolutely worth it! We know Jackson is in good hands and we don't have to worry about him AT ALL. If only they had daycare on the weekend! They do have hikes though, with a service to pick up and drop off and it's reasonably priced (I think about $25 for an hour hike incl transportation). I would highly recommend this place over any other anywhere! Merrill and Marissa really know what they are doing :) And they are NOT difficult to deal with by any means so I would disregard that other review that says differently. read more

We love this place!! My dog, Cody, has been going to Marisa and Merrill for 5 years. They do a great job-the place is clean, smells good, and most importantly, Cody is always thrilled to go and happily tired when I pick him up. He gets great socialization there, and plenty of exercise. The outdoor run is great and when it's really muddy, they don't go out there so not worry that you'll be picking up a dirty dog! But if you do want a dog wash, Marisa will provide it for a small fee-just a basic wash. They are super accommodating and once they know your dog, they consider taking him or her overnight to their house should you need boarding. They obviously love the dogs and the dogs love them. It's a fantastic option when you don't want to leave your pup alone at home all day! Thank God for this terrific service they provide!! read more

I took my dog here after we tried another place that searched high on the Google search for "Vail Doggie Day Care".... That place was gross, dirty and stinky and my dog came home spelling like pee and very thirsty... yuk! I was reluctant to try again but this place came recommended by the vet. I went there and it was clean, organized, well laid out and no smells at all. They gave us a quick tour and told us about how the day goes for the dogs. They have a lot of play areas, balls and a great out door area as well. We are heading back again tomorrow. we are on a ski trip and our dog sitter had to cancel at the last minute. Our dog is pretty pampered and at 12 years old, he has never been boarded, been at a kennel or to day care. He seemed just fine after we picked him up today. We were in the Vail area for an extended time with our young dog. After reading the reviews on Yelp; we decided to try Walkin' the Dog for daycare while we skied. If I could give them 10 starts I would!!!! All the dogs you can see in the daycare area were always so calm! It was truly amazing!! She was there 7 times & each time I dropped her off or picked her up; the was total calmness with the dogs! Very clean. She LOVED going there; even learned "doggy daycare" and would get so excited to go!!! Everyone there is very nice and caring!!! DEFINATELY take your furr baby to Walkin' the Dog if you are in need of this type of service. It was a very nice feeling to know we were dropping her off where she would be loved & cared for! Amazing care, lovely and committed dog people! We found this place online from San Francisco, and we have a puppy that had almost never been alone during his first year. The owners and staff were great on the phone, and we decided to set our guy up with them for Christmas vacation. We were honest that it was his first time away from his peeps (and he's a big 90 pound baby), but they were all in. Marisa and Merrill were honest and caring, and although our dog cried a lot the first few nights, they didn't flinch and gave him tons of comfort. This is a place that takes your dog's age, experience and temperament into account and provides him/her with absolute love and security. The daytime care is excellent too and supervised by fun, caring people. All of the dogs are busy and happy. We feel lucky to have found this place, and highly recommend it! read more
