After 3 years, I'm back. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. So when my…read morepanic and anxiety attacks conveniently began to tag team, I found myself back to the beginning. The universe knew exactly what it was doing sending me back to the starting line. I've lost my way again. I indeed forgot how to calm my mind and body. It was a humbling way for the universe to tell me I am not meditating nor relaxing correctly. That's where Jessika comes in. She is the absolute best and is truly amazing at holding a safe space for you to achieve complete and total relaxation. She offers virtual appointments and thankfully she had availability within a few days. My experience during a session is walking in with a million thoughts racing through my head while my body can't sit down and walking out relaxed, peaceful, and focused. What a difference. I must admit how naive I was to think that reiki should not be a consistent part of my healing journey. Talking with Jessika, she made an interesting point that while reiki can help after one session its benefits can go beyond by being more consistent. I do agree because if one session can bring peace to my life imagine what monthly sessions could do for my health and healing. My goal is to be more consistent in reiki healings this year so that I can be the best version of myself. I can't wait to book my next session and continue to work on healing. So if you are on the fence, do it. Book the appointment and get started on your healing journey.

He translated many many meditation books from Myanmar & Thailand if Ajanh Chan, Sayadaw Mahasi, Sayadaw Silanda, & ect. There's many free books, some in Vietnamese & some in English for distribution at the monastery. You can come here to meditate for a couple of hours or stay overnight or stay for a couple days when the monks & nuns are here. It is best to call & arrange in advance. You can also come for temporary ordain as a nun or monk here. As long as you arrange in advance there will be someone here to help you to shave your head & have a set of robe in your size ready for you to take the precepts in Pali. It is a very nice & wonderful place to meditate & ask questions & guidance from the abbot here. He's very compassionate & readily answer any questions you have about Vipassana meditation.

The space was also much bigger and they had the best vegetarian meal. We got 2 banquet tables reserved and were served heaps of delicious food that were as good if not better than traditional restaurants. I'm addicted to their egg rolls. We were also served bánh hỏi thịt quay chay, bánh bao vịt quay chay, rice vermicelli with hot pot chay, mì xào giòn chay, and a couple more dishes. They were all incredible. I'm still thinking about the food and wondering if it's sacrilege to reserve for regular party. If you come here for Buddhist related things, don't miss out on their food!

On the special days and on their regular temple days, they have vegetarian dishes for purchase at the booth. Street parking only, so be prepared to park a few short blocks away.

If you're curious about meditation, don't let nerves about coming alone or never having done it…read morebefore stop you. Beginner or not, this is a great space to relive some stress, tap into your inner peace, and meet others that are also interested in self exploration. What a gem in Costa Mesa, providing the public with free meditation classes (donations are always welcome!). Gil and Marilyn are SO welcoming, and somehow manage to remember everyones names. The first time I came in was by myself for the Wednesday night group practice led by Gil. The next time I came in was with my cousin, who had no prior meditation experience at all, and she loved it. I randomly found this place online when I was looking to get back into meditation a few months after I completed a Vipassana course. Although Shambhala is different, the 7:00pm class opens with an introduction and instruction to approaching this style of meditation. Note that the space itself is *behind* the Coco's. If you're facing the restaurant, to left you'll find a hall that you pass through. Make a turn towards the salon and you'll find the Meditation Center. The space is warm and clean, be sure to check in with Marilyn or Sepi at the front desk to say that you're new. You take off your shoes (you might want to wear socks) and enter the meditation hall closed off by silkscreen doors. No need to bring pillows or a bloc as very comfortable ones are already provided for you. For those who have trouble sitting cross legged or kneeling on the floor, there are three ample rows of chairs behind the floor seating. The temperature is mild--I wore a jean jacket with a t-shirt underneath and was comfortable the whole session. After practicing two sets of walking and sitting meditation, the class sat in a circle and read a chapter from The Lost Art of Good Conversation, by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. The discussion that followed provides an excellent connection between how the physical and mental exercise of meditation translates to our everyday lives. You have nothing to lose by dropping in. I hope to provide an updated review after attending one of their Saturday sessions or courses. For a fee, they have really cool contemplative arts seminars. I wanted to sign up for the Ikebana course, the study and practice of flower arranging, but they ran out of space! The best way to keep up with its events is by following its Meetup page.
