My appointment was at 11am, it wasn't until 2pm that I was seen by Dr. Villarreal. Never in my life have I waited that long for any medical appointment. After a three hour wait to determine if a painful tooth should be pulled, I was told I had a Type A personality and I should meditate. I'm not sure of any Type A personality that would wait three hours for an appointment, but whatever. At the very least, I expected after waiting that long to receive some sort of meaningful recommendation/diagnosis. Nope. No diagnosis and I was told if the tooth was pulled, it could damage neighboring teeth nearby. So after a very brief consult, I left and drove another hour home. Waste of 5 plus hours of my life and the fees incurred for a useless consult. Do not recommend, but I guess if you live in the RGV you are limited on options. Thankfully I have returned to the real world. However, I recommend avoiding this office if possible.

Apparently, my one and only wisdom tooth (weird, I know) was "impacted". In other words, the tooth had to go. I went in to Dr Villareal's offfice got assessed and was in the surgery room within 20 minutes. The surgery was super quick and they drugged me enough to not find it horrifying. It was actually not bad. I was in pain for the following two days but I was off pain meds by the third or fourth day. I feel Dr Villareal did a great job and I now have a much more positive outlook on dental surgery because of it (I was pretty nervous going in). The office is also really helpful with payments. They are willing to work with you which was really reassuring. I would completely recommend,

Second, the office is extremely clean and it smell sanitized, it made me feel very safe. Lastly, Dr. Carlos Cruz is the best Oral Surgeon from the RGV. The change in time was made and questions were answered about my insurance. My preliminary appointment was set for 2 PM. I was in before the scheduled time. Can you imagine that in the Valley? A place that uses real time. Extraction day came and I was met by Kathy, Dr. Reed's nurse. She is professional and enjoys her job through actions and words. Dr. Reed set up my IV. I was so impressed that he was able to poke the vein first try. Then it was over. My tooth was out. Directions were given along with followup appointment date. One week later I went for the followup. Again I was in before scheduled time. This is a very professional business with a light hearted atmosphere. Everyone I encountered at this office was polite and happy. Very poor experience. We spent 5 hours in his office in Weslaco, Texas. He wanted thousands of…read moredollars to remove a tooth! We finally left after 5 hours with nothing done. We were told most people spend over 1/2 a day waiting! We ended up finding out the tooth did not need to be removed. We had a root canal, buildup, and crown from an Endodontist that charged 40% of the cost. Yes, he did all the work listed above for 40% of the cost Dr. Schwarz quoted us. All Dr. Schwarz was doing was removing the tooth. Then to top it all off we find out they lied to us and our insurance did pay for the consultation cost at Dr. Schwarz office. It took two months before we finally got our money back. I am aware that the Rio Grande Valley has a reputation for a lot of the above behavior. At some point it needs to be addressed.
