Maybe they are tired, overworked, whatever, but they are dealing with sick or injured people who need their help and have nowhere else to turn. As someone who cares for elderly people, I have been there a few times to accompany patients. The triage nurse is sometimes curt and even rude to the elderly. In one case, the patient tried to tell the nurse that her temperature was normally around 36 degrees, making her current temp of 37.5 higher than normal, but the nurse treated this with contempt. In another case the elderly person had a cut on her foot that needed stitches, and the student doctor became angry when the patient felt pain during the stitching process. The supervising doctor refused to come, just continued to sit at the nursing station. I myself have been there because I have been unable to find a family doctor and had a serious problem. I found that when I spoke to the triage nurse or asked a question, it was ignored as if I had not spoken. Then when I saw the doctor hours later (it was not at all busy, practically deserted), she seemed annoyed and basically made me feel like a nuisance. This doctor's lack of interest in helping me bordered on negligence, I believe. I hope this gets fixed at some point, it is not nice for the sick elderly. They deserve better care and a better attitude from medical people.
