Johnson Elementary is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school in the Emerald Hills neighborhood for the San Diego School District. All three of our children attended school here and were very happy, the teaching staff are exceptionally supportive at nurturing and developing the children's academic skills. Within these walls, students are challenged academically and socially. The academic curriculum is rigorous and engaging. However, the more important strength of the school is the way they teach the students to be people of character. I love that! Here are a few notable teachers and staff that have done an amazing job in helping teach our kids: Mrs. Randall, Mrs. Katona, Mrs. Ramirez, Mr. Naughton, Mr. Hickenbottom, Mrs. Faudoa, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Hermann, Mrs. Hernandez, Mrs. Jackie, Mrs. Uniz and Dr. Jenkins Martin! Sadly, my son graduated 5th grade this week! It's definitely bittersweet. But we're excited to see what the future holds. Johnson is truly a remarkable place. I probably should've wrote this review a long time ago but this school's principal plays favorites and does not care for every child the same. Admittedly, I know I was a problem child during my time in this school and I have caused issues here and there, but the principal here just doesn't treat every child the same and basically gave me little to no respect as a kid. I really did want to try and be better, but her attitude and "under her breath" responses did not help me, whatsoever. She would give me side eyes and attitude with tone and she clearly had it for me and some of my classmates at the time I was here. For a school principal, she really lacks respect for the kids who attend this school, especially since their parents pay her salary. Students, on the other hand, it is a very mixed bag. For me, I just do not think the classroom environment a lot of the time felt welcoming at all. A good portion of my time here, I did not feel welcome nor did I ever feel like I belonged, no matter how hard I tried, especially if your child is a very hyper individual. The school, itself, is just fine and during my time here, the only real positive I have for the school are the teachers. The teachers were basically the main highlight and made me want to continue my education and a lot of their words and lessons still impact me to this day. I do think the staff of the school care deeply for the students, except for the principal. Parents, you are better off sending your child elsewhere if you don't want your child feeling like they don't belong somewhere. Honestly, I just wish my time and memories of this school was just a lot more pleasant.

I recently came to…read moreGPA for a professional development training and was blown away by the love and inspiration flowing through this campus. Immediately when entering, I saw boards displaying all the places that students had been accepted to. There were pictures around campus highlighting student accomplishments. Walking into the auditorium, there were cork boards with tests of students who had done well. I truly felt like student success is clearly displayed all through out campus and this really shows their commitment to inspiring students to be leaders and college ready. I was extremely impressed with the school. Even on a Saturday, there were students there just because they enjoy being at school. This truly shows the impact of the school and it's educators.

O'Farrell Isn't as well diverse in staffing as it should be . The office most definitely need to be more diverse it's all Hispanic ( not good when you see no diversity in the office their the first point of contact and that speaks volumes when you enter a public arena and you see the diversity at first sight). My child has been in the school from kindergarten to current (9 years). The school does offer high standards of teaching, ( academic standards are high) zero tolerance is the standard and kept . Testing is accurate , behavioral standards are required at a high performance. Overall O'Farrell is a High performing school . TOP OF THE LINE IN EDUCATION IS PROVIDED at O'Farrell . Mrs Anderson is the best Principal she's involved and easy to communicate with. Very hands on and involved in the students and keeps the staff sharp on there toes . Awesome listener to the students and there parents needs. I'm not a fan of the lottery either for existing students, I strongly believe they should have a guaranteed spot if they've been Excellent students with Dean List and Honor roll awards. Through out there years at O'Farrell and there not a problem . Work ethic , Grades, behavior speaks volumes( all this should be a major consideration for existing students going to high school at O'FArrell) . My daughter is a high performer while navigating through the crisis we face from the COVID-19 epidemic. Mrs Anderson has hired responsible teachers that are going above and beyond to make sure the students are reaching there academic Goals. When a problem arises it's resolved immediately. Suggestions are implemented into lessons . Mr Vose is an awesome Home Base instructor who makes sure he's reachable at all times while keeping up with the students academics . I pray the high school instructors are hands on, involved mentally and I'm emotionally just as the elementary and middle school instructors. Navigating Through the crisis isn't just a word but a mission to sink or swim perish or survive while in the crisis.
