Yesterday I had to make asKtop at the yarn store and couldn't think of a better way to treat myself than with Peggy Ann's, Unfortunately, most of what I got was disappointing. I did start with my favorite - the smiley face buttercream icing sugar cookie. Really, the bottom sugar cookie is just acting as a vehicle for the nearly 1" tall circle of buttercream icing (it may be frosting - I honestly don't know the difference and, really, I don't care, all I know is that I can eat their buttercream with a spoon.) It took 3 days to actually get to the sugar cookie on the bottom. Along with the cookie, I bought just a bunch of random baked goods. I bought my husband an iced brownie which he didn't finish because it was just way too sweet. I bought one of my childhood favorites - a cream horn. This is coming from the person who ate straight butter cream for three days - the cream was so sweet it just overwhelmed the delicate horn. I ate the pastry which was delicious only after I scraped out the cream. I bought a blueberry scone for breakfast - nothing at all special. And finally, I got my husband a banana nut muffin. He said "taste this" - I don't know what was wrong with it but it was awful and we tossed it. Peggy Ann Bakery is known for their petit fours. Both my husband and my son's FIL said "huh, I don't know" when asked if they knew what a petit four was. If you're younger than 50, you might not know either, but these tiny cakes are a favorite at Southern showers and teas. I've really never known anyone who just ate them because they liked them but they do make you want to go "pinkies out" when you see them displayed on the table. I was really excited about my visit to Peggy Ann Bakery but now it just makes me sad - I spent $16 yet we threw away almost half of what I bought.

I asked her to please pick me up the signature grilled cheese sandwich. My sandwich was a grilled chicken breast with Brie, shallot, apple slices, and fig jam. The gluten free bread was toasted and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My sandwich was very good. When I order it again, I will skip the fig jam. The sweet taste is ok but not my preference. The fig jam made my bread mushy on the side the jam was applied. 5/5 If you are gluten intolerant, Mason Dixon is your go to for freshly baked breads, cupcakes, muffins and more. They were the best cookies I've ever had- specifically the chocolate chip ones! They were very moist and flavorful. I shared all of the goodies with my team at work and they were impressed. It's obvious that Dr. Janis' treats are made with love. I had no idea that she also makes homecooked meals right next door! That is on my list of foods to try. This little bakery and lunch spot is across the street from the credit union, conveniently off Whitesburg Drive. If you've ever been to any of the neighboring businesses (eg The Wine Cellar), you'll know parking is a challenge - not a ton of spots, and many of them requiring sharp angles to enter and exit. The restaurant looks a little like a small home and has a nice fenced in patio in the front. It looks like the owners are still working to put the finishing touches on the inside, but it's still cute and welcoming. There's a medium sized dining area with a window so employees can pass your food to you. A beautiful display case shows off the yummy baked goods. There are also several cold cases with prepared foods, to include appetizers, entrees, and desserts, for grab and go meals. Would be great for football games or easy entertaining! I've been twice now and staff has been sweet and helpful both times. The first time, I ordered a pan of macaroni and cheese for a Thanksgiving gathering. My in-laws don't do mac at Thanksgiving but I love it. However, I was too short on time this year and so when I saw LD's very reasonable pricing, I hopped on it. Pickup was easy. While there, I impulse bought a pumpkin cake roll because I didn't have enough pumpkin in my life. The mac and cheese was simple but well executed and went over nicely at Thanksgiving. Reheating/baking was easy, the time provided on the instructions was correct, and no mess made. No leftovers either! I really enjoyed the pumpkin roll but husband said it had too many pumpkin/fall spices for him. More for me. ;) I came again this week because I'd been wanting to actually have lunch here. They have simple breakfast and lunch items (breakfast burritos, paninis, sliders, etc) and I was excited to give it a go. I ordered the pimento cheese grilled cheese. I'd hoped for a side of macaroni salad but they were out so I wound up with Miss Vickie's chips instead. I also got a trail mix bar for a snack later because I can't ever resist those types of goodies. My sandwich came out promptly: pimento cheese and bacon griddled on jalapeño cheddar bread. The staff member apologized for it being messy, which it certainly was lol; I had to get a fork to eat the plummeting clumps of pimento cheese. Messiness aside, I enjoyed the sandwich. The pimento cheese was appropriately gooey and cheesy. I wish the bacon had been a little crispier but it was an ample amount. My favorite part was the bread; the jalapeño flavor was subtle but there and it was the perfect texture for a panini. The trail mix bar I had later was packed full of goodies and also yummy. Give this local business a try sometime! I especially love them for the ease and convenience of their take and bake goods.

The strawberry pretzel salad was probably the best thing, but it was all in very discrete layers, which is not my preference. The pretzels were completely separate from everything else and it was hard getting a bite of all the elements put together. That said, the flavors were good, though the strawberry part could've been a bit sweeter. The cupcakes were fine. I thought there was a smidge too much frosting on them for the size of the cakes but it wasn't egregious like it is at Bite Me Cupcakery at Bridge Street. The chocolate peanut butter cupcake didn't have much peanut butter flavor (only the bites with PB drizzle); personally, I was hoping for some peanut butter flavor in the cake itself. The cookies and cream was bland but not overly sweet, which was a plus. Overall, for my experience there, this place offered pretty but expensive desserts that satisfied if not necessarily blew my socks off. It might be a good spot for a quick sweet tooth fix if you're enjoying time at Stovehouse.
