This school is a massive, absolutely gargantuan leap from my days of Bear Flag Elementary - sorry public schools but the curriculum hear is truly outstanding!! And, I am only seeing one days worth. My nieces and nephew are learning multiple languages, music, art, tons of history and the blah blah basics. But the fantastic part is that the classrooms are small and the teachers are so nice and very accessible to the students. Being a non-parent I would definitely send my kids here without question... save up your pennies though because you will need every one of them.

My child went on to a competitive middle school (PCDS) since she had the hand in denying him admission and has now completed his semester freshmen year at PRINCETON with all A's. My neighbors kid was a member of the church and her student was denied for kindergarten because he couldn't draw a complete circle! SERIOUSLY! he is now a sophomore at BROPHY! How the diocese allows this school to deny their own based on one person's opinion is scary. So parents do not be discouraged if your child is denied admission here since they are "selective". Your child will be okay.

I went to St. Francis for nine years; I attended kindergarten to 8th grade and was in class of 05'…read more Let me first say that K-6th grade was great, I had bad teachers here and there but the atmosphere of the school was relaxed, great classmates' good teachers and I had a good time. Then around 6th grade the schools then principle died from cancer and Ms. Elliot took over in her place as the new principle after that the school went from a fun learning environment to a horrid lockdown strict hellhole. After Ms. Elliot came into power, they locked the gates and installed new ones; this gave me a very unsafe insecure feeling as they basically locked us in. They installed secretary camera's everywhere. They also took down the old playground equipment and installed newer "safer" equipment which basically sucked. Then they changed the way they release students to school making a "drop off lane" it was horrid and I had to wait 30+ mins in the hot sun for my mom to drive through the line to pick me up. Before the lane it took me 3 mins to walk to my mom's car and leave. They outsourced the lunch food to a horrid company that made the worst garbage not fit for human consumption. Even though the school upgraded the playground, cameras and the Jail gates, they never upgraded the classrooms, cafeteria, buildings and "blacktop". They said they would get rid of the nasty portable buildings by 2004 but here they are, in 2009 still standing! In fact they built way more crappy portable buildings where the old playground used to be! There are many things the school promised to renovate but they never got to it the management is generally lazy. As far as academics, the classes are harder then any of the classes I've experienced at Brophy College prep, they push grade-schoolers extremely hard I had about 2-4hrs of homework every night. They teach algebra and chemistry at the college level in GRADESCHOOL! 2-4 page research papers were common assignments for various classes each week in 7-8th grade. They always told us it had to be formatted in Perfect MLA format for high school, truth is Brophy's workload was WAY MORE LIENENT and less then SFX ever was.

They focus on accepting girls from specific backgrounds that fit their image, giving less chance for others who don't to receive the same opportunities. If you are a minority & are part of the small number that gets accepted, there is no one there who looks like or can relate to you culturally.

To be honest, first starting at this school was great! Kids nice, teachers nice, and the rules…read moreactually made since. But probably a day or two later after the first day on this campus, everything turned! First off, the kids "act" like inappropriate adults! For example, I've heard kids say the N word, and some other words for the private area. And they also do inappropriate moaning, alot kids say "Ahh, daddy do it harder" and they are only ten or eleven years old doing that. I guess to they like insulting people like "Are you f*in' stupid!?", "a*hole!" , "shut the f* up!" , "you little peace of sh**!" , "sh* nugget!" I could keep going on how they use these words. Second, a lot of physical fighting happens there. For example, choking, pulling hair, and punches being thrown. Third, the teachers could be "off topic" sometimes. For example, one teacher would talk about getting vaccinated and talking about unnecessary election opinions. Another teacher by the name of Mr. Jones called me racist. Fourth, the quality and entertainment for lunch recess I would give a 2 and a half for. They do not have a playground, it is just a plain field and one basketball court, two basketball hoops. Also, often they put water on the main field. So, we have to go into the back field AKA the early field. There are roaches back there, dog/cat poop, spider webs and more! Also, when we are able to go to the main field there are dead roaches, and the grass is almost up to your knee's sometimes which could get really itchy. Fifth, the rules. They have something called "academic success" which yes, is a great thing to help others learn after school! But sometimes you could automatically be pulled into academic success just because you have a low/medium C. Which, in my opinion is not a good grading system. Also a 3/5 is a C! Again, doesn't make very much sense. Also, you cannot run near the high school side. Even just being on the grass at lunch recess near the high school could get you a "think sheet" or a timeout on the wall. Also one teacher REQUIRES at least an A or B in the class or you get academic success. Sixth, therapy with the councilor or just in general talking to the principal. There is one councilor that if you talk to, she will tell you what YOU did wrong and what YOU shouldn't do and it just makes you feel worse about the situation. Also, when talking to the principal's they wont give a crap. They will just stare at you the whole time and keep saying "mhm" , "ok.." and tell you to go back to class. Eighth, the lunch quality. Yes, I know campus food wont be perfect and quality. But I've experienced hair in my food that is NOT mine. Also, the food could sometimes be hard, and gross. And even the lunch ladies just slap whatever sauce topping you want onto your pan and it gets on everything. I've even experienced my milk being covered in beans! Nineth, the bullying is so common there! You could have someone passing you saying "you are fat" or "ugly" and even worse, some in the cafeteria could even snatch your food and throw it. That's all I have to say about this school.

The current principal, Ms. Cervantes, is responsive and creative and has brought in some incredible teachers who are willing to go above and beyond for their students. The positive energy radiates through everyone and this school is safe place where children thrive. A bonus for this school is that they support families with children that may have 504 plans or IEPs. They take these seriously and have additional support for ALL children. It has been a godsend to not fear sending my younger two boys to school and having their spirits broken by the educational system.
