The Valley Painting in Brentwood provides a very poor quality service. Please, see the pictures: the evidence of their poor quality work. The outcome of their work does not meet the criteria of the description of paint and small repair included in the estimate: cracks are still visible, walls with paint dripping .... When I pointed out the problems, Felix promised to fix them but it never happened. As excuse he said: your house is old; door is not well adjusted so painting of the door can't be better. This experience led to many unpleasant surprises and very big regrets I hired this company. In addition, the service is very expensive and excludes the painting of the garage and a small concrete by the front door. I would NOT recommend hiring this company. read more

What my husband and I love the most is the great customer service. The attention to detail and the honesty. We had paint chipping away and rotted old wood trims. We wanted to go the cheap way, and just paint over it. Felix let us know that the results wouldn't look as good as we would like them to be if we didn't remove the old rotted trim and sand down the old chipped off paint. He also pointed out that we had old drip marks that needed to be sanded down as well. It was up to us he said, and we decided to pay a little more, and have it done right. I used Yelp and Angies List to find licensed painting contractors to bid on painting the exterior walls and trim of my two story house. I wanted the trim (eaves, gutters, fascias) in Semi Gloss White and the walls in a different Graham Cracker Velvet Sheen for a two tone effect. I received many bids from McCleary Painting, Shadowood Painting, Paramount Painting, Generations of Painting, Painter's Friend, Omega Painting, Marcus Henderson Painting. Some painters offered Kelley Moore Paint and others Dunne Edwards. After conducting my own research I found that Dunne Edwards EverShield is far superior on the exterior and had painters bid with that. The bid process is taxing, you have lots of questions on prep, materials, warranty, etc. Pricing had a swing of about $700 cheaper to $1200 more expensive. How I narrowed the list was with questioning the depth of prep - scraping, caulking, different primers for masonry and wood, along with spray painting, backrolling and the size of the paint crew. I did not go with the lowest bid but rather in the middle and wanted more than a one or two person team. Kurt Kline at Dunne Edwards store on Blossom Hill Rd was fantastic when I struggled in narrowing my paint colors and had digital pictures of my house photoshopped (via Lloyd Eakes) with my final three colors which really made the decision easy. I purchased a small tub of paint to put on the wall to confirm the final selection. Some painters don't prime, some only do one coat, others spray paint first coat and only backroll the second, some only offer a 1year warranty against paint peeling, cracking or splitting. A lot of the painters are experienced, busy during the summer months and painting is a 3-4 day job of power washing walls, scraping, caulking, priming then painting spray painting and backrolling two coats on walls and trim. I narrowed my list to three painters and then based on their follow up responses to my questions, pricing, and viewing their past jobs decided on Felix at Valley Painting. From the start I was impressed with Felix's can do attitude, he is easy to talk to, knows the full process and is not just a salesman. We settled on a date and Jose from his team came out to power wash the house in about two hours. The following day the whole Valley Painting team of Mario, Jose, Alfredo and Felix came and started the prep work. This involved scraping any flaking paint off lap boards, walls, eaves, fascia boards. Next is the caulking, any cracks in stucco and wood need to be filled with paintable waterproof caulk (not silicon), this can take some time to find all the crevices. Then comes the priming, Mario used Masonry primer on stucco which was rolled on and a different primer on wood was used by Jose and Alfredo. They masked all the windows, doors, light fixtures, telephone boxes, Directv wiring and faucets. They also put tape to get nice sharp corners, drop cloths to guard against any spills on fence, floor, roof,, etc. Very nice prepping to be ready for paint the following day and left the back yard tidy (free of tools, ladders, etc). The next day they spray painted the Dunne Edwards EverShield paint onto the walls and backrollored two walls, then they came back over and did a second coat which they spray painted and backrollored. You can really see the difference when paint is spray painted vs just rollored on. No crevices are left and all the stucco has a very nice uniform tight coverage. They left the windows covered upstairs in the back over the weekend and picked up on Monday finishing the other two walls (front and side). Then they masked off the wall on the rear and side to spray paint the eaves, gutter and fascias. The masking really helps avoid the run marks and splash. They finished painting on Tuesday and the final finish looks amazing, came out better than I expected. I was really impressed with Mario, when I had concerns of saw areas that needed caulking, touch up, he took care of it immediately, he really went above and beyond in putting my concerns too rest. He really painted like it was his own house and took pride in his work. He has been painting for over 7 years and it shows. Jose and Alfredo also worked diligently moving between fascias, gutters, eaves and walls. The trio (Mario, Jose and Alfredo) did a fantastic job, I am really impressed with the final outcome. Mario did a final walk through with me to address any final concerns prior to cleaning up and leaving. Felix backs his work with a solid warranty against any splitting, cracking or peeling and is C33 licensed for painting and decorating. Felix accepts payment via check or credit card. It is with great pleasure and pride that I write this review for Felix @ Valley Painting, my neighbors commented on how great the house looks and heads turn when I see people pass by. We recently had Felix and his crew complete a very challenging paint job on two historic properties (built circa 1900) in Los Gatos - both interior and exterior, and they did a phenomenal job. This was an extremely challenging job since the properties had not been painted in over 30+ years easily. Because of the age of the home, his crew had to first remove all residue paint by hand (chipping), and with water pressure, and then sand down the wood. They did this very diligently and with care. I want to highlight some of the qualities that we really appreciated about Valley Painting: Professionalism: The crew showed up when they said they would. They first worked to chip the remaining exterior paint, use water pressure, and sand down the wood to prep for painting. Felix would visit the work site often to monitor progress and make very insightful suggestions regarding paint selection and aesthetics. Many times, Felix made excellent color recommendations and when we were not fully settled on a specific color, he would go and get us additional paint samples until we found something that matched our expectations. Creativity: Beyond Felix's paint suggestions, he had an awesome idea for a new wood garage door we installed that we were just planning on painting over. With his vision, he suggested that the door should instead be stained and finished with a deep dark wood color. He had his crew apply the stain and finish and the door turned out phenomenally. Pride: Felix takes pride in his work, and goes the extra mile to make sure that the paint schema meets our vision, but also that it meets his own standards of beauty and class. We really appreciated that extra step of pridemanship that is often lost in many companies today. Price Competitive: We quoted a few painters for this project, and Felix was by far the most price competitive. His crew was diligent and went far beyond the scope of the work to make sure that it met our standards. Overall, selecting Valley Painting is a no brainer for me. Professionalism, creativity, price competitiveness, and pridemanship are all qualities I would pick any day for a paint team. Felix met with us and discussed all the work to be done, the type of paint (Sherwin Williams) and provided the color samples we were interested in. My house was in dire need of fresh paint. It had been so long since the last paint job that we had flaking, peeling paint, not just on the walls in front (which receive direct sun all afternoon) but also on the trim. Others who gave me quotes said nothing about that, but told me that the streaks on the east and north sides of the house were due a) to poor application of paint by previous painters, and b) stains that would have to be removed by sanding and bleaching. Felix was awesome to talk with, and in the matter of the streaks simply said they were due to condensation dripping, laden with particulate matter (smoggy air) over time, and that they could easily be removed with a power wash (which, if repeated every year or so, would keep things looking pristine). Felix's quote was higher than the others I received, but I felt FAR more comfortable with his professional knowledge and skills than I did with the other fellows. He was quite clear about the time required (it's a big 2-storey house!), and understood the need to minimize noise in order to have the least possible impact on my 88-year-old mother. His crew was awesome, coming to do the prep work first (including sanding, power washing and spot-priming) then diligently painting not just the body of the house, but the doors, the trim, the shutters etc. A walkthrough afterwards revealed a couple of items to touch up, which were promptly and carefully done. I've had several neighbors come over specifically to remark upon how beautiful the house now looks, and how efficiently it was painted. They have no idea how easy it was to work with Felix, how well he managed the time and his crew (particularly since it rained in the middle of the job) and how capably he helped me figure out what colors I wanted to use. We had Felix' crew do our entire house exterior in Sherman Williams elastomeric paint. Three colors on stucco and various metal trim. Felix was very easy to communicate with. We found him when they painted a few houses nearby and my wife noticed the quality of their work. Responses were immediate and his advice was very good. My wife is very fussy over color and they bent over backwards helping her figure out if she made the right choices. The paint crew were very considerate and the quality of their work is excellent. We had no issues and the work was done in a timely manner. About a week including power washing and waiting a day after that. Valley Painting (owner Felix) did a great job painting my home. He was willing to work with high tech material (micro ceramic spheres) that I had purchased to mix in the paint. The workers do a good job of masking, preping, painting, and cleaning up. Prior to the job, Felix personally verified the color of a home my wife liked by taking color samples to the address we requested. Furthermore, he brought several variations of the same color to paint a sample patch to ensure my wife would be pleased with the end result. in response to, "feeling the need to defend myself" comments made by Felix.... 1. Using SW paint was at your recommendation as it was a flatter paint and would yield a better result. In fact, you wouldn't guarantee a roller mark free ceiling if BM Aura was used on the ceiling. Let's also not forget that you purchased 15 or 20 gallons of SW paint for the ceiling--a HUGE mistake. The job probably only needed 5 gallons. It's pretty obvious that you needed some way to recoup from this mistake. You got caught. When called out on it, you made excuses to leave the job. 2. There was no yelling. How would you know? You weren't there. Your painter made excuses for using the wrong colors, wrong materials, and had his feelings hurt when i pointed out numerous mistakes. 3. When I pointed out the problems with the trim, you promised to fix them. I gave you the opportunity to fix it and it never happened. When I caught your team using the wrong materials I also brought up the issue with the trim again. This seemed to be final straw as I have obviously insulted Picasso one to many times. 4. I am sorry you feel the need to defend yourself, but I selected you largely because of your very positive Yelp reviews. I am very disappointed because I gave you multiple opportunities to make things right. Instead of accepting responsibility, you made excuses and continued to cover for your team's mistakes. The point of my Yelp review is to document my experience with Valley Painting. My experience is very different than what the other reviews and I feel it is important to share my experience with the Yelp community. After all, I selected Valley Painting based on the previous Yelp reviews. Bottom line, there were numerous problems and issues. To be honest, any big project is going to have issues.
