He listens carefully, asks insightful questions and considers which medication would be most appropriate. He explains why he thinks a medication might be a good choice, and always goes over the possible side effects. He recommends psychotherapy if he feels it would be beneficial. He has given me incredible support throughout my late twenties up through my early 50's. I've had several ups and downs. I'm not an easy patient to work with. There is a reason I have always stuck with Dr. Hetnal. He is my rock. He always helps me deal with and overcome the challenges that have come my way. He goes above and beyond for his patients. He is the best.

It was the same thing with Sutter when my primary care doctor left Sutter nobody notified and it was really hard to get in to have a new primary I went months and months without a primary I used to like Sutter but they are falling down for sure. They're not consumer friendly I don't believe so anymore.

He is very knowledgable & extremely competent. Even though I am in this field, you may not believe how incredibly hard it is to find great MDs in these times. I found this MD via word of mouth through my stellar dentist in town (Dr. Sulak) Many either retire if they can, or have to join a group to keep it going. In this MD case, he did have to go with Sutter, which I do not care for...but that is the way it is. Since I still have a house in Modesto, but live mostly in Pismo Beach, I do make a special trip to see him, my old dentist, & my old Psychiatrist (Dr. Cheang) ...since I can't find such good ones here. I am not happy to drive 4-5 hrs. each way to see these guys, but it is worth it. There is nothing more important than your health. Anyway, if I spend a weekend in precious time to go back & forth to see these clinicians that says it all. BTW- You need a referral from another clinician to see an MD with this group...no matter what insurance you have....one of the pain in the neck things you have to deal with with Sutter-Gould...but what can you do?

It feels weird reviewing a medical professional on Yelp, and going through other reviews I can definitely see where some of the criticisms are coming from. He's definitely never on time, so make sure you're not trying to squeeze in a quick appointment. No, like if you have a 2pm appointment and were hoping to be out of there by 2:30pm, give yourself until 3 or even later. On the flip side, part of why he was always late was that he certainly will help in a crisis if necessary. I do recall that for a period I wasn't seeing him and tried to get back in, part of his initial reluctance to accept me again as a patient was because of an insurance issue; I owed him money that the insurance company was supposed to pay, but didn't find out. So, poor communication could be a problem. I still feel bad about it and glad we made it work out. I remember in the early days in 2008 when he didn't have a secretary and had his tiny little office. He definitely worked hard and built up a good clientele. Linda is a great secretary and her sometimes sub (I forget her name) was also really awesome. There definitely are some sort of questionable things; if memory serves, he worked for Kaiser before independent practice and complained about their McCorporate approach to healthcare and profit-focus. Gib does value patients, but as an independent contractor, he does also need to worry about that aspect. He was amazing at providing samples when I went through an insurance gap though. I didn't like the supplements he sold, as they never really did anything. Nonetheless, he provided good feedback and helped find a medical cocktail that still works. There were a couple of instances of important decisions where he was the only dissenting voice (family, friends, therapist, other medical providers all agreed) and while he never said he was wrong, he did admit to being surprised at how great everything turned off. He could be very encouraging, but also at times he felt dismissive. He works hard and will answer questions.

Also, I like that Nurse aziz doesn't push medication, instead recognizes medication is only a small part of mental health and one must be active in therapy to make a difference. After waiting on videochat alone for 45 minutes (because, ya know, trying to get help, and give the benefit of the doubt), I hung up, called the office, was told why she didn't log on, and cried to my husband, who called back to complain. Even before my husband called, Mary was on it, looking for a way to not let this experience be my last with Mindpath Health. Mary worked to get me an appointment with Anissa Brown and I will be forever grateful. Anissa is such a kind, personable, professional provider. She listens and offers options and education. I am always able to call the office and speak with Mary or Amanda with any issues and receive a prompt callback from them or Anissa. If you are looking for a psychiatrist, I highly recommend going with Anissa, or try a different location as appointments are telephonic/video. The intake process was smooth, and besides the unprofessionalism of Dr. Aziz, I have had nothing but great customer service and care.
