I spent about 8k on counters for my kitchen remodel. While the counter is beautiful it's not level. I have spent 2 months texting , calling and trying to find a solution. Today I called again and Stephanie gave me the answer of "I didn't call you back yesterday beciase I didn't want to bother Chris " he was in a really grumpy mood. Well I'm grumpy because my counter aren't level. I was also told that if my counter weren't level they aren't responsible " if my counters weren't level they never told me , I never saw anyone check for level. I also know that professional Installers would make it level by shimming if needed. One guy came out to measure , 2 weeks later he was with a different company , two installers on the day of install were new "only days new" this isn't right. Communication is the reason for negative review. We hired them and were told two weeks. After a month of waiting, I had to call to inquire when they were coming, two weeks later they finally did the demo and left. I had to call a week later to inquire when they would be back to install the counter top. They came Thursday and installed the counter top. The crew kept the area clean and was courteous. If they had been upfront with their timeline and communicated the demo and install scheduling with us we could have said more than, he end job is nice, the crew was courteous and kept the area clean. read more

This place has a nice selection of granite, to be sure. BUT that being said the owner and his asst. (who thinks she's the CEO) have SHIT for personalities. I was welcomed the first time by a very caustic, rude and obnoxious owner who complained the ENTIRE time how I and another man who was there, were interrupting his lunch break. HELLO?! then don't answer the F'ing doorbell when customers arrive! there's a suggestion! Or, shut up and do what your supposed to do when you own a business....ASSIST THE CUSTOMER WHO PAYS YOUR F'ing BILLS! The female asst. Don't even get me started on her! what a B***H to the Nth degree. She has the personality of a badger. Actually that's insulting the badger. She has NO personality. She will NOT go out of her way to assist you, the customer, in any way, shape or form. She stands there jotting down invisible numbers like she's doing something while she looks completely bored and put out by you. If you ask her to get someone to move granite, NOPE, you need to come back because "her men" ( I love that, HER men...I guess she owned a plantation in a former life) are too busy. As you look around an empty wharehouse with 2 men cutting granite? wow, real busy. Then she tries to screw you with a quote, changing numbers and prices. If her voice doesn't annoy you, her complete lack of social skills, will. Im not sure if the owner has his head up his butt and doesn't realize how poorly run his business is? perhaps he should actually be in house besides always "being on vacation". But to me, when you own a business you act professional and you go out of your way to assist the customer in any way you possibly can. The goal is, to gain business not scare it away. I guess he's a multi-millionaire and can afford to act rude and hire a female go-fer who scares the shit out of potential customers with her acidic charm. He is losing out on a lot of potential customers due to his crypt keeper of an asst. and his caustic personality. I heard other rumors about how poorly run this place was and the rude female asst. but didn't think it was this bad. I will NEVER do business with this place, even if they were the last granite place in the area. Did a major remodel on my home to include new granite countertops & quartz in the bathrooms. I went to every major supplier in my area and decided on Valley Tile & Stone. My countertop needed to be trimmed on one edge where the range slides in. After so many calls, excuses by Stephanie, they are now telling me they just can't handle the service call. Funny, when they are selling, they are very available. After they have your money, forget it. I asked to speak to the owner Chris. Stephanie said she will have him call me. Well, no call to date. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. After spending thousands of dollars on countertops, I called because of a small chip. I never asked for Valley to repair the chip although I'd hoped they would, I was just looking for advice on how to get it fixed. After no less than a dozen calls where I was repeatedly told the manager, Stephanie would get back to me, I have still yet to speak with Stephanie or the owner, Chris who I have also left messages for. I would like to start this out in a friendly manner. This company has a great selection of Granite, and do great work. Being in the trades myself(tile, and a few granite jobs myself) I can appreciate the craftsmanship they do. The Floor help is outstanding, friendly willing to do that little extra to help you out. Now is where it gets gloomy, and the reason for the 1 star. I recently purchased a remnant of stone for a shower installation I was doing. The floor help, which has always been helpful, said it would be no problem to take the 5 min to cut this remnant in half, making it easier and safer for me to transport. No problem right? wrong. The owner decided to get involved, told me that for 5 min it would be a additional cut charge , an extra amount over the 300.00 dollar remnant I just purchased, I do believe it was 100.00 dollars. Obviously I declined to spend an extra 33% service charge, for one 33" cut. I asked the guys who were helping me if I could borrow some power for my cutting grinder to cut it myself next to my truck, so I could transport it safely. This is where it gets weird, the owner stalks out of the warehouse to tell me I cant cut my slab next to my truck as it will make a mess.( dust) from my grinder. I go ..UH okay, Ill sweep it up? Nope!!! Then he says he will give me a A frame to haul the slab.(which is at least kinda friendly) after giving me a earful of how I was distracting his help. After a few he decides he cant find a free A frame or ...who knows He has his guys take it back into the warehouse and cut it???? No charge, I guess my willingness to cut it myself made him rethink his 33% service charge? Did he decide I was a customer in that moment? Who knows. I found it kinda funny actually, if he had stayed out of it, I would have been done 15 min earlier his guys would have been freed up and I would be on the freeway home. The irony of this whole adventure can been summed up as, one transaction that took over 30 min that could have been finished in 10. He could have sold a remnant made a few bucks and have a returning customer. instead he insults me a CUSTOMER and makes the transaction take 3 times as long. enough said. Just purchased a home in Cambria to use for family and friends taking vacations. Planning a remodel and thought this would be a good business to use as we do plan on all new flooring and counters. The rude and abrasive manner of the owner and his staff caught us off guard. Our budget was $130k which we thought would be a great start for just the flooring and counter replacement but we were so disappointed at the way we were treated that we will shop elsewhere. Nice selection but Chris Barber was as unprofessional as they come. We think we dodged a bullet by NOT selecting this business. read more

Wow, these 1 star reviews are spot on. Great selection of stone, but can't overcome the pompous (Trump like) owner, or the gravely voiced (smoker?) woman? Couldn't have made us feel more like we were imposing on their day. Short and curt and didn't have time to work with us. Gave them a deposit for a small job that the staff felt they could get done in a couple of weeks. 5 weeks later....nothing..... cancelled the order and got our money back. (The gravely voiced woman wanted nothing to do with us). Went to Mr. Tom's in Atascadero.....couldn't have been nicer and helpful. Do yourself a favor and check it out, unless you like to be treated like dirt. read more

Valley Tile & Stone has an amazing selection of granite. I found the employees to be extremely courteous. The owner and his wife were there when i stopped by to check out their inventory, and I found them both to be helpful and friendly. Steffanie is a sweetheart , she is both professional and knowledgeable. I find the other reviews regarding Steffanie's voice to be crass and ignorant. After she had finished her long day at the work place she took the time to bring samples to my home After looking around other local granite facilities we went back to Valley Tile, and picked out a beautiful , very unique piece. The price was fair, it was installed on time by two very capable and friendly young men. The granite is in my kitchen and is admired by all my family and guests. I am really surprised with the bad reviews I've read here. Our experience was really great. My wife & I were in the learning & fact finding phase when we 1st went in with the deer in the headlights look we must have had after looking at so many stone yards & many slabs. We 1st met Melissa who was friendly & knowledgeable & took her time to show us her inventory. We went home with 5 different samples to proof at the house. After making our selection we worked with Stephenie & the owner Chris who were both VERY attentive to detail such as using double ply wood sub tops to raise the counter enough for oven drawer to open & clear our saltillo tile floor when range went back in. Having missed that would have been a real bummer. Also per their idea we went with a 3 1/8 inch mitered edge to hide the double sub tops & original wood slat counter top. The end product is very beautiful & quite stunning. The demo & finished counter crew of Zac & Gary were top notch too. Stephenie gave us tear out dates & install dates & were spot on. I used the plumber they recommended. Charles of CDB Plumbing to remove & re install range and all plumbing in kitchen & bath. He was very professional & helpful too. If I could give this outfit 10 stars I would. We are extremely satisfied customers. read more

Go anywhere but here. Chris, the owner, is arrogant and demeaning. He has a really bad reputation in the building community. He may know his stuff but nobody WANTS to work with him. It is purely business to them. I heard from a contractor that whenever this owner, Chris, goes to a building site, the subs take off or try to ignore him. There staff is lacking as well. The sad part is Chris knows he has a bad reputation but continues to be belligerent and almost seems to enjoy it. Stephanie in particular has a reputation for not bothering to return phone calls. Is Chris rubbing off on them as well? Instead of changing, they seem to be standing firm with their unhelpful belittling behaviors. I wish another business would come in to compete with them. They know people don't have much choice and have to go there if they don't want to go out of town. You have other choices. We went to Pacific Shores stone in Arroyo Grande. They have a good selection as well as friendly helpful staff. Support other better stone businesses on the Central Coast that add to and not take away from our beautiful amazing area. read more

We went to Valley Tile and Stone because we like supporting our local businesses. We picked out the quartz product we wanted from their excellent selection, set a date for the work, and signed the contract. We emptied our kitchen cabinets, had our garbage disposal removed, and had kitchen water turned off in preparation for the project. On the scheduled day of work, we waited for someone to show up. Finally, at noon, we drove over to the shop to see when they were planning to start. They had taken us off the schedule! We were promised a call at 2p.m. with a solution. No call. At 4p.m. we drove to the shop to find out what was happening. Again we were promised a call, this time for 8am the next day. Finally at 9:30a.m. we got a call saying the manager refused to allow any overtime to work on our house and that they could fit us into their schedule after four weeks. Absurd. We found another in town vendor, went back to Valley Tile and Stone, told them they had voided the contract by not showing up, and that someone else would be doing the work. The manager expressed no apology, took our contract, tore it up in front of us, dropped it in the waste basket, and turned her back to us. The first time in I spoke to Raven and was very pleased...but then came back 4 weeks later and Raven was gone and Stephanie was in her place. Our diagram for the counters tops was lost and she said she would call when she found it. No call. Finally found it and granite was picked and ready to start and wanted the cost. Stephanie was going to call me with it. No call. Went in again and was told they could demo the old counters the first week of July and install the new granite on the LAST week of July...I told her I was going to a competitive company in the city and I did..she could care less and the boss doesn't deal with anyone..Obviously they only want big businesses like Sarah B. We did go back to Valley Tile last month because we were remodeling our bathrooms this time and they do have a really nice inventory of slabs you may not be able to find anywhere else. Chris was nice enough and spent time with us talking about the various slabs and the difference between chinese fabricated countertops and those made here. It was a weekend and we just had a litttle time to swing through before they closed. Their prices per square foot for slabs seem to be in line with what we were seeing elsewhere if not somewhat better. When we went back again during the week we talked with Steffanie and she seemed helpful and attentive. Contrary to what another reviewer said, I kind of find Steffanie's voice unique and rather soothing although my wife finds it somewhat patronizing. It might be a male/female perception thing though. I didn't have them quote the job this time, though, so I can't advise if they have improved on their fabrication and installion pricing from what we experienced a couple years ago. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! Our first experience was with Amanda, a lovely young woman who was very helpful and knowledgeable. There was a good selection of granite to be viewed. Upon receiving a proposal from Stephanie (I wish I could have continued working with Amanda but she was off the day I turned over our measurements), it consisted of a total amount of $8,560 for our 62 square foot kitchen counter space, almost $2,000 over the $85-100 per foot bid we were initially quoted. When I called to get a breakdown of the quote, I had to speak to Chris, perhaps an owner, and the rudest man I have met in a long time because Stephanie was busy. He told me that he would not provide a breakdown of the job because it was proprietary. He was condescending, lacked professionalism, and had a take it or leave it attitude. I agree with the other one star raters(although I wish negative ratings were an option - how does this guy stay in business? This is a small town and word travels fast - in this case I hope this review reaches people before they are exposed to this IDIOT!!!!!!!!! read more
