When we mounted the horses, my son's horse, by the name of 'Three,' tried to bite my daughter's leg who was on the horse, 'Bella.' Then 'Three' tried to bite Bella's neck. Our young guide then put a muzzle on all of the horses. We proceeded to the trail - my horse 'Vinny' kept trying to walk off to the side of the trail, in the bushes. I was then told by the guide that Vinny did not like mud and was trying to avoid walking through the mud. For the record, it had just rained that morning. If Vinny did not like mud, why did they allow him to be out on the trail? Needless to say, Vinny was not happy and took off running through the trees, threw me, knocked me unconscious. I was attended to by the ambulance, then emergency room. I have been struggling since, as I recover from a concussion and whiplash (neck and back). Been out of work for almost a month. Not once have I received a correspondence from the Serenbe Inn to see how I was doing, or apologize for the actions of their horse. I also noticed the next day my credit card was charged the full amount. Dangerous - They do not care about the riders. My son mentioned that after the horse threw me and while I was on the ground unconscious, the horse was stomping all around me. As my son was running towards me, from a distance he thought I was being stomped by the horse. Fortunately, not. BE CAREFUL! Serenbe Inn, I was really surprised by the lack of customer service and customer care. No call - No email - No apology - NO CARE!

It's been a while since I've been on a horse and this was the first ride for my kiddo. Before I forget to mention the barn is equipped with helmets if you would like one which is so awesome! After filling out the paperwork they give a brief tutorial before your ride on how to stop/start/ guide the horse to do what you want which was really helpful. The horses were so sweet and gentle my daughter rode Simon, I rode Rusty, and my husband got Bella. The trail was great a little narrow at times between trees but the horses definitely kept us on track and going smoothly. My husband ended up getting the sweetest horse who loved to stop every couple of minutes for snacks so every time we looked back he was a bit behind us lol! It made for a great moment that we will remember and laugh about for years to come! Our guide was very knowledgeable and great with my daughter who despite being nervous beforehand rode like she had been riding her whole life! Proud mama moment for sure!! Their barn cat greeted us when we got back and was all purrs & brushing up against our legs such a little cutie (check out the picture). We got to meet all of the other horses and fed our horses a treat in their buckets after the ride! We had a fantastic time and we really enjoyed the horses and the beautiful scenery! While some riders seemed to enjoy an open road and easier navigation, my families ride took place in a wood area. In hindsight, this terrain was not ideal for all participants as it involved constant walking over rocks, branches and muddy trails. Though I paid $85 per person, I'm uncertain if I received the full experience advertised by the ranch, especially when comparing it to what others have shared about their rides. Additionally, we were advised not to b ring our cell phones along to prevent losing them on the trail, resulting in the disappointment of not having any photos of our horseback riding experience. While I personally had a great time, reflecting on the discrepancies between our ride and what seems to be advertised for other guest has left me unsure about recommending this ranch to others. However, its important to note that this review is solely on my own experience and others may have different perspectives. Spotted Hills Farm is located on 101 rolling acres with a full-sized, lighted jumping arena, dressage arena, covered round pen, exercise arena, cross-country course (with water jump), full or partial board and much much more. They also offer both English and Western riding lessons while the barn primarily trains in eventing. I can not wait to see what the Spotts family will do to continually improve this great place. This farm took a lot of time to decorate and we loved the different holidays that they catered to as well (Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas). Service: The bartender was really patient and made delicious drinks. The staff that helps you stay on track during the tour were friendly and even curious about your opinions along the way. The staff is amazing, and the activities are challenging, fun, and reasonably priced. We started off with the swincars. We had so much fun driving along the smooth and rugged trails, over a wooden bridge, and even a swing bridge. We saw deer, and were even up close and personal with them. They were beautiful! Our staff companions were James and Brenda. They were personable and very knowledgeable. After swincars, we took a long, leisurely lunch break. We had ordered sack lunches that morning before swincars, so they were ready. The sandwiches were delicious and huge! The lunch also came with a bag of chips, apple, and a water bottle. It was nice to just sit in the air conditioned dining area, talk and laugh while we ate. Last, but definitely NOT least, we did the zipline. Oh my. What they don't tell you is that the very first (beginner's zipline) starts with crossing a rugged looking swing bridge once you've climbed up the stairs to begin the whole zipping process. My husband and son were fine with it, but not me. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. The boards are placed 1 - 2 ft apart, and me being an older, chunky woman, that was not easy. I literally froze on the bridge. I don't think this is common, so if you're going to do zipline and walk across the swing bridge, I'm sure you'll be fine. I finally managed to get across with lots of encouragement from our instructors, Keaton and Josh. The zipline was challenging, but fun, and I will admit that there was one point I was ready to give up. Keaton encouraged me to continue, and I'm so glad I did. I was so proud of myself for making it through the entire activity. Poor, Keaton. I definitely kept him on his toes, and I'm sure he was bruised and exhausted afterwards. He had to lend a helping hand to me on numerous occasions and I also slammed into him more than once. He was a trooper and amazing. As you can see, I highly recommend Historic Banning Mills. It's for the young, middle aged, and old like me. I achieved some of the things I never thought possible, and it was all with the help from this great staff.

While…read morenothing seriously wrong, was not happy with the constant turn over of employees (trish was the best!!!!) sanitary conditions of the barn, lack of training equipment (jumps, barrels etc) and while turnouts were daily, depending on weather, pastures were not up to snuff for grazing horses. Owners were absentee, with their young daughter as barn manager, who was rarely around. Overall was not terrible, but for amount of board charged was expecting more care and attention to the horses and owners.

Both trainers have their own scheduling board so the students can see which horse they are riding. So far every time I have come my trainer has been on time and was already in the barn by the time I came. The horses there are well-trained and gentle. The facilities there are very nice. My lessons have also been very good as well. Each lesson I rode the full duration and was not shorted at all. My only complaint is that there is no dressage arena(or arena emptied of jumps). This means that working on dressage can be difficult since you can't work in the full size of a dressage arena. There are also no letters so for those who are just learning dressage this can make things more difficult.

We often felt unclear on expectations, received little guidance on working with the horses, and experienced inconsistent communication. At times, interactions felt distant, which made it hard to feel fully welcomed. Our final visit to the garden club--where we were initially told it was "full" without prior notice--ultimately solidified that this wasn't the right fit for us, though we appreciated Erin stepping in to let us help. That said, Monica and Dylan were wonderful and very supportive. I genuinely believe in the mission and hope the volunteer experience continues to improve with more structure and communication.
