Avoid if you can. You have been warned!
As per our contract that we signed in October 2019, Valley Windows committed to install us 11 new windows, new front door and to brick up two porch windows. The job was scheduled to be performed on the 3rd of December 2019 and as advised by Dominic and Jason, should not take longer than 3 days, up to the 6th of December 2019. Today, 05.08.2020, after more than a half a year from their first visit, the project is still far away from being finished, mainly due to their poor workmanship (which is confirmed to be so by the attached surveyor report) - multiple damages on installed windows. Current Covid-19 situation can't be used as an excuse as all of this has happened long time before the virus and their last visit at ours was in Feb, they were well aware about all the issues before the lockdown (Dec 2019 - March 2020), and they also had enough time to react after all the restrictions were lifted (Jun - July 2020).
To refresh the case, I've highlighted all the issues we had below:
- First visit, December 3rd 2019, you installed 11 windows (Veka Hallo, System 10) and one door (Solidoor). 10 out of 11 newly installed windows were damaged - multiple cracks on the sashes and frames, wrong handles installed, wrong hinges installed, unfinished brickwork and unfinished door. All windows left unsealed, causing massive drafts in the house, which left us with a massive energy bill (it was a middle of winter!). Unfinished brickwork allowed a rain getting in to the inner wall and caused a damp! (pictures attached)
- Second visit, January 11th 2020, which resulted in 7 out of 11 windows requiring re-fitting/adjusting/replacing, unfinished brickwork and unfinished door. Some of the windows were wrongly installed and cracked for the second time. During this visit you damaged my fire place, the cost of repair was quoted at £1000.
- Third visit, February 8th 2020, which resulted in 3 out of 11 windows still requiring replacing/refitting, and unfinished door. Plus various new scratches and damages. During this visit some of the windows were wrongly fitted for the 3rd time (cracks in sashes and frames again!). Fitters tried to cover one crack on a sash by covering it with a silicone (picture attached), also one glass was smashed leaving us for the rest of the winter with a single glazed window and most of the windows being unsealed. Wrong handles and hinges still not replaced, no end caps on sills as per attached pictures.
As I know nothing about windows fitting and I was called by Dominic a special/unique customer I have decided to appoint a charted surveyor to check the quality of the work performed by Valley Windows. The full report can be found on the attached pictures and it is enough to say it has only confirmed all my "unique" issues I had with the windows.
We have tried to sue VW but our solicitor found out that there is no financial merit here - which means VW's accounts are not visible, it cannot be determined who owns the company, so we cannot claim anything back nor court costs. Before you enter into agreement with them please think twice. We have learnt our lesson - it has been a pricy one, but very educational.
To add up - we dont think that all the 5 stars comments here are genuine, they have probably been written by friends and family as we have experienced a totally different service (including rude attitude from Dominic, Lewis and Jason), which attached pictures seem to be confirming.
