Most Difficult Bank to work with. My elderly parents have banked with Carter since 1999. I took…read moreover their finances when they both became disabled earlier this year, and Carter has been a nightmare the whole time. It takes weeks to get questions answered, and I spend at least three hours at their branch every time I go (during my workday no less!) They recently refused to deposit $4,000 worth of checks due to a technicality on their mobile deposit, did not properly notify me, and now are insisting they can't find the checks or fix my issue. I will be pulling every dime of my parents' money away from this nightmare bank. Stay away!

My retired boyfriend has a decent-sized savings account and IRA at Carter Bank. He was charged a…read more$3.00 fee in July because he's had no activity on the account for a year. A SAVINGS ACCOUNT. FOR SAVING. NOT TO BE TOUCHED. So we got the letter about it in August, and decided to do an electronic transfer from his other bank to Carter. Imagine our surprise when we found out in this month's statement that CARTER BANK DOES NOT COUNT ELECTRONIC TRANSACTIONS AS ACTIVITY in this case. We could do digital deposits all year long, and still get charged a fee, because those transactions are not considered activity. Why? What's the reason? In this current climate, not recognizing digital transactions as legitimate activity is definitely not "caring" in any way. What about people who are homebound? Or people who choose not to go out because of Covid? The rep we called said we could mail a check in. Seriously? That's your answer? That's a shame. I think he's decided to close both of his accounts over this small fee. Carter Bank, you're definitely not living up to your company slogan.
