I've been going to this store for years and it's close by my house - 2 blocks away so it was convenient. So I decided to just go here instead of 7/11 to buy cigarettes. To my surprise, I was charge an extra "$2.00 credit fee" just for using my debit card/Apple Pay? Really?! So when I ask the cashier lady why that much, she rolled her eyes and gave a nasty attitude!!! And I suggest to her that they should let customers be inform that if they are charging a $2 dollar fee just for using the card then they should post it or say something before charging them! And she went on and said it is posted and I ask her where? And she couldn't point to any sign!!! Lol Please, save yourself some trip and go somewhere else! This place charges over way too much for everything. I get it, it's a corner store but this place sucks and will rip you off! Never coming here again! read more

This classic style corner market and liquor store is still going strong. Right on top of Georgia Street, it's the perfect little place to stop for beer and spirits, smokes and any little stuff you just remembered that you are out of at home. Never show up empty handed! That's what my mama taught me.This place is right across the street from a friend's house, so whenever I visit, it's my go-to spot for a last minute bottle of wine. The selection's not stellar, but you can't beat the location. It is a bit sketchy, but I'm a big girl, I can handle it. It also stocks refreshing cans of flavored mineral water in a big barrel next to the door. At 50 cents a pop, they're the cheapest way to cool down on a hot Vallejo summertime day. read more

This place does not honor their own price tags. Had older gentleman cashier try to charge me more than what the sign said the product was selling for. When I questioned him about the price he refused to sell me the product. It seems to me it would be more intelligent to accept the payment for the advertised price instead of losing a customer and gaining a negative social media review. Also the older gentleman that works here hardly ever wear his mask completely. This place is a COVID - 19 threat. read more

Val's Heritage Market holds a near and dear place in my heart. Not because it is a spectacular specimen of a corner store...No, its because it epitomizes what a corner store needs to be. Kinda scrubby inside, bad lighting, cheap food, booze, and it gives you the slight fear that someone may come in and hold it up at any second. Val's has all the stuff you need in that 'emergency' situation, but you're too damn tired/drunk/hungover/sick to get your sweet lil hiney to the grocery store. Plus, it really is on a corner. Val's came to the rescue when a fellow Yelper and I were suffering from the worst parallel hangover of our lives- Power-aide, wheat thins, OJ, and Pepto-B were all easily found here, and for a normal grocery store price (for 2x of the items mentioned, I think it rang in around 10-15 bucks.) Val's to the rescue take 2 : Drank all the wine at our wine party, and simultaneously realize we have no food. Val's not only had wine at a decent price ($6.99 for a bottle of the little penguin pinot noir) they also had these amazing taquito things that came in bulk for $4.00. YEAH! Mmmm, convenience... The counter guy is funny too - he has no shame in asking what you're doing for the evening, if you're dating the person you're standing next to, if you'd like your eggs over easy.... Things you should note about Val's: It's on the top of a hill, and for whatever reason if you decide to drive here, pedestrians loooove to walk out in front of your car. Same goes for people who are driving away from Val's- They tend to flip U-turns in front of other cars, pull out, or generally swerve away without any warning/acknowledgment of other cars on the street. New to the area. Greeted by a strange smell.... mold/ dirt mop maybe ? Anyway I wanted beer / wine. Didn't have golden monkey beer- so... next... Wine wise they have the mass produced large brands- barefoot, yellow tail, sutter home, and arbor mist. Did manage to grab a bottle of apothic red. It's a convenience store that sells liquor. This store needs to be shut down. Period. What they mainly are selling is alcohol and blunt wraps. These are their main commodities. If you buy groceries there, you will be charged at least 1.5 to two times what they would cost in another grocery store. For example, a container of peanut butter cost $4.50 almost, and milk costs almost $3.00 per half gallon. And...these people over there do NOT take credit cards. All they take is your cash and debit cards, and guess what: They then charge you $0.75 per debit card transaction. When I asked them why, they stated "that is how much it costs us to run the debit transaction". Yesterday also, I tried to return a half gallon of milk. I had gotten it home, and it smelled and tasted funny. Got to the store, and the guy looked at the date, smelled it, and even tasted it two times in front of me and refused to give me a refund. He became very upset and argued with me in front of two to three other customers. Even today when I came in and said I was sorry for making a big deal out of this, he was still rude and angry towards me. This same "nice cashier" also tried to push alcohol on me as a remedy for my flu I had at the time. And I did not even drink at that time. Val's also attracts a very bad element to the community. You would clearly see this if you lived in the nearby Indian alley area. Very often ghetto people come by and blast loud rap music late at night. They come there for alcohol and blunt wraps, and that's it. This store also attracts bums galore. Take my advice from a sensible person: DO NOT SHOP HERE. This store only really promotes a bad environment for our area, overcharges customers, and is a rip-off in general. Yes, you may have to get in your car and drive 5 mins. to Safeway. But at least there you're safe, and you can get reasonable prices for what items you need. I am very upset with this company. Have spent hundreds of $$s here and even got treated like crap. read more
