I needed a DLP chip put into my TV, so because of the raving reviews of Val's, I called. I told whomever it was that I was speaking with that I had the part because I was going to do it myself, but when I opened the lightbulb compartment, I thought forget it, I'll have someone else do it. He responded that he wouldn't want to touch it because I opened the TV and he didn't want to be responsible as there may be something else wrong. NONSENSE! That's bunk, there is nothing else wrong with the TV and I only opened the light bulb compartment, it's actually made for the consumer to open and replace the bulb, it's one screw and a slide in compartment. NOTHING could have been touched and/or broken, by opening that. And either way, the bulb compartment has absolutely zero effect upon the DLP chip/mother board, they are separate components. My guess, based upon some friends in Chicago who do TV repair, is that this shop is one which wants to hit you with a huge mark-up on the part and then diagnose something else wrong so they can make more money. Kinda like how tire shops won't install tires you bought somewhere else, they want that mark-up & over-charge. Why else would someone not want to take my money for an easy 1-2-3 job to install a part, they could be in and out in a heartbeat and not have to go through the pain of ordering the part, and be onto the next job. Ridiculous, I won't be recommending anyone to use Val's (dare I call it) "service". Sorry, but whomever it was on the phone that I spoke to, I call BULLS**T on you. EDIT: OK OK, look, maybe I jumped the gun, I was informed that there are people who dig into their TVs and f--k them up, then call TV repairmen then blame the technician for the damage they did. Yeah, I get it, and I feel for TV guys in that scenario. However, I told him what I had opened and he immediately flipped the switch to off. he didn't ask for clarification and I grant him that he doesn't know me from the next joe... plus how many of those scumbags can there possibly be? Do they outnumber those who wouldn't be a scumbag? Regardless, I don't want to do business with someone who is scarred from bad customers, just like I don't want to date a woman who is scarred from other guys & holds me responsible--because those bad people are everywhere, we can't avoid them, we have to do our business as though it's a business. We have an older Samsung plasma TV, and one day when we turned it on, it just kept cycling on and off with hardly any time in between except for a quick clicking noise. I noticed this happened to someone else on a review, and it has happened to others who have posted online in forums. Short of opening the TV up, I tried everything I could from the forums and YouTube and with Samsung customer service, but I didn't have any luck fixing the TV myself. On Google Maps, Val's was pretty close to our place, so I called him up and asked about house calls and diagnostic fees. He quoted us a really great price for a diagnostic fee, especially for a home visit, and he was able to fit us in within a few days, so I figured it was worth paying (well under $50!) to find out whether the TV was worth fixing vs. buying a new one, especially without my having to carry a big, heavy plasma TV somewhere. Val arrived on time, was super nice, and was extra kind to my daughter, who was a little interested in watching him work. Long story short, several things could've been wrong with it, so he took apart the TV and took out some of the circuit boards to take back to his shop to test. (Then he put the TV back together, of course, without the boards, before he left, so we wouldn't have a mess.) Within a few days, he was able to tell me those boards were fine, and he would stop by and replace them and get one last board to test. This was the most expensive board, and I think that's why he hadn't taken it, since I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay for a big repair for my old TV (though I like the plasma's picture better than most modern TVs, price would be a factor). Fortunately, after some research, he discovered he could buy just the piece on the board that was likely faulty instead of replacing the whole board. He quoted us a price, and altogether, including the earlier diagnostic fee, the price to fix it was under $200. When the part came in, he fixed our board and brought it back, and the TV was magically fixed. The price was exactly what he described every time... the diagnostic fee for the first visit, then the price for the part, and then the labor. It's been several weeks, and our TV is still working great. We are very happy to have our TV back and to be able to keep our plasma model. Also, we were very lucky to have a conscientious repair person who was open and fair and did what he said he would do. Troubleshooting is both an art and a science. Repairs may not always work out. But Val's prices were super reasonable, and we got spot-on estimates, great service, and a fixed TV from Val's TV Repair. Thanks so much! We're very happy customers! read more

my 5 year old Vizio crapped out on me, so I thought perhaps I'd fix it, or maybe get a new one, depending on how much it would cost to fix. My limit was around $200. So I took it to Val, gave him my $20 towards disgnosis and waited to hear back on what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix. about 10 days goes by and I get a call "your TV is ready".. say what? no call to tell me what was wrong or how much it would cost to repair it? (thought perhaps maybe it was just a simple cheap fix so he didn't bother calling?) so I arrive and rather than tell me what was wrong or even how much the bill was, he straight up says "how are you paying for this", to which I reply "it depends on how much it was!@#" and he tells me $230, and then I had to ask "what was wrong with it" and he mumbled something about fixing the mother board. - so I dumped $250 total into a 5yr old TV worth about the same. talk about POOR communication! if someone brings you something to fix, you call them back to tell them what's wrong and how much it will cost to fix. period. read more

I called because of the great Yelp reviews, and you guys were 100% correct! My appointment was for 10am on Saturday, and he showed up early! I needed the lamp changed on my Panasonic projection TV, so I called and Val offered to order the part then call when it arrived. He quoted me $200.00 for the house call, part and installation - a great deal in my mind. Whilst installing the part, my dog who is wary of strangers decided Val was his new best friend. This is a far higher recommendation than even being honest, on-time (early,) and doing excellent work. I would 100% recommend him to anyone looking to save an older television or even wanting a newer set given the once over before being replaced. Val was great. I have a really nice Samsung TV that died. It was a problem that was fixed twice by Best Buy within the 1st year of owning it. It's been fine for years but did it again. I really didn't have the money for another $2k plus TV and started calling around and Val seemed like them man to fix it. It only took him a few days to fix apposed the two plus weeks it took Best Buy. He charged me an extremely fair price. I only gave him 4 start as it was missing a few screws. Had a six year old 36" LCD that all of a sudden had poor picture quality. I tried the TVs manual suggestion to reset the video to factory specs, but no change. I wanted a quick evaluation since I didn't want to spend too much if if was a major repair. I took my 55" LG tv to Val to get repaired... the picture was flashing on and off... Mind you the TV was only two years old. Val told me it was the LEDs... Four days later he told me it was ready. When I paid for the service $205... He informed me that he would not warranty it for any length of time, because LEDs go out all the time. I was not happy about that as he did not tell me that at the beginning of my service that he could not warranty it. I watched it for approximately four days before it did the same thing again. Also when I went to pick it up there was no remote and there was no power cord and he asked me if I brought them. What person takes a TV to get repaired without the power cord or the remote... I never did get my correct power cord...he did find my remote. I got it home and was able to watch it for approximately 3 1/2 days and it went out again. Had geek squad come out to look at it, and lo and behold it wasn't the LEDs at all it was the motherboard... So be careful taking any items to This so called shop. Also he works on all of his repairs outside in the open in his backyard. And it is not a clean environment. If I could let everybody know about this I would. Any reviews for this man and his shop that are good... Is a total lie and is fake... Take a look at his place and judge it from there. read more

I wish I would have an option of 0 start here, that's what he deserves. My boyfriend found him on yelp since he had lots of good reviews decided to call. He came to my house checked the tv, 2 years old Samsung 3d tv, he said he could fix it, charged me $30 for the visit and took the tv. In few weeks my boyfriend called he said that he ordered the broken part which will arrive in few days will coast us $250 to $300. Haven't heard from him for few weeks, called him, he said its fixed works fine he will call us in a day to bring it in, haven't heard from him for at least a week called him he said the tv doesn't work and it will not be possible to fix it at all. Asked us to pay for the part that he bought for the tv, we told him to just give us back the tv since he couldn't fix it we are not going to pay him. When he brought my tv he refused to bring it into my house he told me that I need to carry it inside myself, i told him that I can't carry 50inch tv into my house myself, and he told me he will drop it outside and go because it doesn't work anyways. I told him not to, so he drove away and told me with laugh that he don't care and we need to go pick up the tv ourselves from his place. Which my boyfriend did. I will say the worst experience of my life, very unpleasant, nonprofessional, disrespectful person. well, my sister had a television she had problems powering on. she bought a new one i took her old one and said i would get it repaired. l checked my handy dandy yelp and found Val's. I contacted him by phone and decided to have him look at it he advised it was $20.00 just to look. I understand. I asked him to call me when he found out the problem. He advised me it was the power board and $148.00 to fix. I agreed and he called me when it was done and I said I would pick it up Saturday, I had to make a run and contacted and said i would pick him up Monday and he asked me at least five time if i was going to pick it up. Took the broken/burned out part of the tv and next day brought the new part fixed everything with the part plus labor for only $200. My TV was originally $2000. Two weeks ago my son and I set off for Sacramento for the weekend. My daughter was staying overnight after school with her friends and so mom came home to quiet and a weekend of just kicking back watching DVR'd shows or watching the shopping Networks. TV doesn't work. Calls us up north asking on how to reset cable. We tell her, again no signal. Our LG 55 is about 10 years old so I didn't consider the television to be the issue. After reading some reviews I decided we needed to have a television repair person take a look. Called Val (from a yelper's recommendation) and made arrangements. He quoted on site fix or at the shop repair, both of which I felt were fair and justified pricing. My biggest issue was having an adult home to let them in to pick up the unit. Finally was able to coordinate a Friday pick-up. Val came out gave initial diagnosis which led to taking the unit off of the wall and to his shop. Diagnosed it as a control unit. Part was ordered, arrived in a timely fashion (I am a parts manager by trade so I felt ETA was absolutely good) fix was in and again having an adult home was the only issue but Val was quite accommodating with their schedule. Came home from work that evening to the green/blue glow of the television through the picture window of our house. I have nothing but praise. I have a seven year old Sony 50" Grand WEGA. I changed the bulb myself and had problems getting it to work correctly after that. I called Val's based on the good reviews I had read here and had the same experience. Val returns calls promptly, arrives on time, is really good at his job, is friendly, very informative, and took care of my TV problem in about 5 or 10 minutes. Model and what was wrong) honestly I told him I don't know I only knew it did not power on, and I had my 12 year old on summer vacation with no TV and need to get it fixed ASAP, and with my salary I could not afford a new one.He asked me if it was possible for me to bring it in. After a few minute I said I will be at his shop in 30 minute (note he closes at 5:00) With in 3 minutes there, he knew what was wrong "sounds like the power board is out". Val is truly nothing short of fantastic! our very expensive professional moisture meter was not working; I called the manufacturer and they wouldn't repair (they would replace for $450.00 only); I searched on line blogs for other people with similar issues. someone had posted that their local T.V. repair man was able to repair their moisture meter. so I called Val and took the meter to him. amazing! a brilliant man! without any prior experience with moisture meters, Val disassembled the unit, researched the damage and replacement parts, ordered and obtained the necessary parts, repaired the meter perfectly and called me to pick up. my Samsung DLP tv finally started acting up after 5 wonderful years. i did research online and there were a few ideas of what might be wrong but i couldnt tell for sure. didnt want to just order parts and then find out it wasnt the right solution. i was planning on taking it in to an electronics repair shop i have been to a few times over the years and was too excited about it as they are expensive. cheaper than buying a new $1200 tv though. i did a quick search on Yelp just to see if i could find anything. Val popped up in my area and the reviews convinced me to give him a shot. he was very nice on the phone and promptly scheduled an appointment for him to come to my home the next day. he advised me there would be a $20 fee for coming by, which is nothing in my opinion. well worth me not having to load it into my truck and schlep it to a repair shop. Val showed up promptly on time. he's a very pleasant gentleman and very easy going. you can tell he knows what he's doing and talking about. he checked out my tv and removed the back panel and told me what he believed the problem(s) were and gave me a quote to fix it. a few days later he called me up and told me it was fixed and that it was the issues he thought it was. and sure enough the amount due was exactly what he quoted me which was $260 and a complete bargain in my opinion. he brought it back and hooked it all up for us. i asked him if he knew about adjusting the settings on my tv for a specific hd effect and he said he would look it up when he got home and call me back. the next day, he did call me back to tell me what he found out about it as well as to ask me how the tv was doing. its always great when you can find someone in a service industry who is honest and friendly. ill definitely be referring other people to him and call him again if the need arises. read more
