First of all the jewelry counter lady . She is rude on command its like she is there getting paid to be rude and when you ask a legitimate question about a piece of jewelry he answer is " we can't verify if it's real we are not jewelers" but they priced things at $900 ,$1k without knowing if it's real ? Make it make sense. They get it for free and sell it a gold spot price without but "they don't know if it's real " . But the attitude , the rudeness ,she acts like we,the costumers are there to bother and she is not there to work.The managers are rude and treat the workers like kids yelling at them and giving them horrible treatment I've seen it with my own eyes multiple times . This store is a hidden gem. It helps with practical items. The object of winning a prize treasure is keep track and join the Savers club and use coupons and rewards. Also if you are a fabulous 55 year retro youth then you can save more on Tuesday. Be prepared for a fleet of Retro youngsters lol ! They are nearly waiting like it is a famous Rock band coming into town . And the colors on the price tags save you money too but each time there is a color of the day that is 50% off. You can stack with coupons to save more. This store does not carry junk things. But I do examine for tears, missing buttons or zippers. And examine for stains because that stain may be permanent. I keep a stock of Tide and Lysol for my precious treasures. After a good wash it looks good as new. I have recently bought some heavy bedding sheets and pillow shams. I bought my son and I some of those lounging or gaming attire lol. I find some of my shirts with funny sayings! Again we have about 20 minutes to sweep through. No there, is no public restrooms. As you read my reviews I will note this. So you may want to use the restroom before looking for hidden treasure. So far McDonald's near there does have restroom without restrictions. So I buy an item for that gesture. Otherwise use the bathroom before you go in there. In this thrift store be ready to use self checkouts with a friendly worker watching you and being there to assist . There is a cash only self checkout and card only. They do not like customers bringing in any Backpacks or very large bags, so do not do it. You do have to bring your own bags. And they sell cute reusable bag for $1.99. It is very strong. We bought our famous bag for our treasures and as a souvenir. We thrift pretty regularly as our youngest son is growing so fast but I save more because I get his hand me downs. I do not have a problem. With good laundry tricks, clothes can remain looking good. If I take a photo of everything it would be too much. As he grows out of things, I keep what fits me well. Those things I keep are funny T-shirts, lounging pants or jackets. This place has a good assortment of clothing. I shop in teens section because it is usually a bit cheaper. I have bought all us each of laptop bags for very cheap too. I can not emphasize how this thrift store sells very quality gently used clothes. I am not ashamed about thrifting because it truly saves money. I recommend this place. There is something for anyone. Hey if you have a big truck , then you can find furniture very cheap and in very good shape. I saw a big bedroom dresser with all the drawers for about close to $5. You have to be one of those frequent shoppers if you need stuff like that. I can talk about this place all day . I love this place. I have fun here. read more

A patient and caring employee asked her what was wrong, went to get the manager, and then the sheriff arrived and forced the lady out of the store. The employee in a black dress screamed at me for getting out of my car in the donation line. "ma'am we ask you to stay in your car until you are helped!!!!" I said "do you mean until I am parked over here?" they say " either or!" with a snotty response while refusing to look at me or help me. I have donated here maybe 50 times and have never been humiliated for getting out of my car to retrieve donations 5 seconds too soon. My experiences several days ago was A HORRIFYING TIME with the store checker (or manager?). I recently went shopping at Value Village on 19th Street.　It was Tuesday, and it's Senior Day.　　I am 70 year old. I was about to pay for two items and told the middle aged lady that I am a senior and would like a discount.　I showed her my USA passport, which it was easier to pull out of my wallet. She got angry and said she couldn't see where the birthday was.　　I said, "You have eyes on you, don't you?　 She got very angry and started to argue with me.　She yelled at me to leave immediately.　 What made her so angry?　　I wanted to leave right away because I felt that I got harassed, but I could pull out my driver's license, which I showed her.　　 Is this the way to treat a customer?　　I thought this woman was sick or maybe she doesn't like Asians. We are your customers, but we are also valuable donors to your company. This tall, arrogant, mean, middle-aged (or, she is maybe a senior citizen) woman has no appreciation for either the customer or the donor. I am an immigrant from Japan and have been an American citizen for almost 40 years.　Wherever I go when I return to Japan, I always receive courteous service.　 Also in Japan, second hand stores do not sell donated items, they buy them and sell them.　　Even so, the customer service and attitude are very courteous. The old woman that works behind the jewelry counter is THE WORST at customer service. And this is consistently the case, not just a one time issue. If her main job is to sort and price jewelry, there should be someone else tending to the customers. She's aloof and acts like she's doing you a favor by waiting on you. Quite often her back is to the counter as she sorts through the unpriced goods. One time she was with another employee sorting stuff and neither one of them broke away from their task at hand, and after I politely asked if someone could help me, the reply was "We will be with you in a minute". In my opinion and my history of working in retail many years ago, the customer is first and foremost the reason why the business is even there. They need to put her in the back warehouse. read more

So we are currently at Value Village in University Place... As we walked by this back wall, a sleeve of KNIVES falls to the ground. An older lady was right by us and went to get an team member to help.. Does anyone else think this is unsafe?! The plastic can only hold so much weight... It turns out the Productions Manager said that it's fine just like it is. Then I asked to speak to the store manager Cari who admitted they looked a little 'too full'. She denied giving out the production managers name who also denied to give her name... they were around the same characteristics. Sure they were kind but how can you not see a problem here. If you do and continue leaving them hang there at the TOP .... This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Maybe put the knives in a designated area on the shelf You're so lucky neither of the knives hit my 3 month old that I was pushing in a stroller or my 16 month old baby in the cart. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by an older woman behind the jewelry counter. Very sincere very friendly and definitely a keeper if Value Village knows anything about anything. This is definitely not the usual upon walking into Value Village. Any Value Village. I normally deal with a consistently atrocious customer service experience at these places (Value Village's and Goodwill's), because I always find the highest percentage of high-end designer brands at this particular store. That being said, don't let the fact of having the highest volume of higher end clothing fool you. This place completely undermines the benefit of being gifted such a plethora of designer duds by pricing these items at insanely unreasonable prices. But its not just that. Nope. To top it off most of these items have a disturbingly high price tag ON TOP of being hideously stained. And this is not just an item here and there this is a very high number of items. I'm not just talking about a little tiny and unnoticeable stain here. I'm talking about very obvious and large stains. I see this all the time. Then upon asking employee if the price was pre-stained the answer is always the same. They apparently are completely okay with knowingly over-pricing this stuff with stains and all. I am nearly offended upon getting these answers due to how crazy the idea sounds to me being always paired with their never-failing snotty attitudes. So they never claim to have not seen a stain and never agree to any decrease in price. They always reassure me that they knowingly overprice these items stains and all. read more

I bought some clothes recently. I tried them on at home because this value village doesn't have fitting rooms. it made sense at the time because most stores offer a return of some sort. i went in the day after to return some items that didn't fit and they don't have a return policy. what they do have is a 14 day exchange policy. so i found some items to exchange and i didn't hit the amount. i honestly wanted to get rid of the pieces and asked if i could just donate one of the pieces. every item still had the tags and they said no. i honestly never want to buy clothing from value village because their return policy is atrocious. please bring back fitting rooms or make your return policy more clear. also the prices are getting to be near retail. they were selling a pair of boots for $150 that retail for $130. i just keep getting disappointed and don't see a need to shop here anymore. read more

Our favorite store in Crown Hill recently closed (so sad, still recovering), so while on an adventure down South we stopped at this VV. It was clean, staff were friendly and there was a decent amount of stock but they just couldn't match the level of quality goods that the store in Seattle carried. I wandered the aisles looking for a few specific items with no luck. Maybe I'm spoiled by the consignment-level goodies that were stocked at the Seattle store or maybe I didn't feel like shopping but I had little luck here. I did appreciate the shoe racks as they were organized, making it much easier to find sizes. This store doesn't warrant a trip to Tacoma but if in the area, peruse at your leisure..just don't expect to find too many treasures. read more

I've been coming here for years. Some days are a real hit, other days, not so much. I'm a big fan of the kitchen gadgets and mens jeans selection. I've found some items that really made my day for the price. The staff is friendly and the building is a good size. Just be warned, it does have a certain smell to the place. I bought a beautiful medium-sized red and white polka dot bowl today for $3.49. I thought it was a great buy but the service is somewhere between nonexistent and abysmal. Apparently, they have decided they would prefer their employees not interact with the customers. There is not an option of having a clerk wait on you. I scanned the code on the bowl but I could not get the machine to accept my debit card which I had used less than an hour before and I knew it was functioning. I asked an employee who was standing a few feet away for help. She rudely did not acknowledge me but she did tell another employee I needed help. This 2nd employee casually mosied over eventually and was very condescending. She was also curt and dismissive - all in all very rude. I am 72 and I served the public as a car hop, a waitress, a nurses' aid and a psychologist from the time I was 15 until I was 62 and I don't believe I ever once treated anyone this badly. A quick look to the reviews on my screen shows the 2 men who posted got good service - the women mostly not. I left a review a year and a half ago when I stopped at the store and the woman who was, albeit reluctantly, helping me, stopped in the middle of my transaction and went to help a man who had just walked up and interrupted us. It was very sexist and the reviews, although a small sample, suggest men get treated better. read more

I think I've been to this Value Village once a long time ago and only recently came back with Steven. Steve likes to come here and buy a lot of his clothes because they are inexpensive and doesn't want to pay full price at big box retailers. Much of this isn't so much about the price itself but more the quality of what is bought. This isn't just at one big box retailer either but quite a few. The clothes that we have bought from these places just doesn't seem to last. Why I got some new pants at Target and in about two weeks they had holes in them and I'm not abusive to my clothes nor is my work environment hostile to them so I can't blame him coming here to stock up on his wardrobe. I'm kind of on the fence with being as enthused as he is about Value Village but I don't usually find quite what I'm looking to wear at places like this and if I do it's more at high end vintage clothing shops in which you don't really save money at all. What Steve has bought here the clothes and shoes that Steve has bought here don't necessarily last longer either than from those other stores but he also hasn't thrown down nearly as much money either. Despite me not being quite as excited with the clothing options there are other things here that I like. You just kind of have to poke around and look. There is a decent sized book section which I usually look for at places like this. usually to varying degrees of success. There are also video games, DVD's and home decor to look at which could have some treasures. What I purchased was neither of these. What I bought was four comics from a limited series in the 80's, The West Coast Avengers. There were four issues in the limited series and they had all four which made me terribly excited and I wasn't about to pass this up. I had these comics when I was a kid but some got lost and a few issues are pretty battered up so it was great finding these in good condition and well cared for. Each issue was $ 1.25. A much more reasonable price for new issues which can range from $ 2.99 all the way to $ 4.99. So in that aspect... Yay Value Village! I'm sure selection changes often here and Steve seems to back that observation up with his more frequent experiences so it may be a good idea to swing by here again in a couple of months and see what they have for comics then. read more

Came in on a sale day (50% off). I usually go to the Lacey location but wanted to try this one. I should have drove the extra 30 minutes to Lacey. -_- For starters, it was pretty dirty and unorganized. Most of the store were extremely overpriced. Everything is used, so I don't think charging store prices for used things is smart. Or overpricing something because it's name brand. I love sale days because I usually stock my closet with tons of things but this location didn't have much items I was interested in. Children's book section was limited as well as Juniors clothing. However, I found a ton of great baby boy clothes in excellent condition so this trip wasn't a complete let down. The staff was great and very friendly but I don't think I'll be back to this location. read more

One of the greatest places in Washington! This place is my jam! I can always find a winner here, sometimes it takes a bit of time but I have walked out of this value village with one of a kind things and even things worth hundreds of dollars! You can't go wrong going with this value village. They recently put in self check out and it seems to be a lot less time waiting to check out. read more

What can I say? It's a thrift store. That's pretty dirty. And the customer service is basically non-existent. But, you occasionally find good deals here. Nothing bad about this place in terms of selection. Was scrounging around in the rugs section, wanted to buy something for the living room. Saw a nice rug hanging on the rack and was looking at it. Rude lady working there comments if I was checking the rug out and tells me "We don't do stuff like that here" - assuming I had taken the rug off the hanger and draped it over the rack. Lady, I didn't hang that rug up there I was just looking at it. I don't do stuff like that either at my place, and I certainly don't talk to people like that. It's used stuff, right? This store is pretty decently organized with all the clothes and shoes in the middle and all the other items hanging on walls around the perimeter. I don't know why this VV seems larger than other because it's the same size as the one in Lacey, but it just seems larger. One thing that I do like is that there are a lot of clothes even in the mens section which surprises me as most places always have a huge women's department and barely anything for men. The furniture section is always a major miss, so I would say don't even bother looking here for furniture. They never have any decent pieces of large furniture. The housewares are also usually kind of picked over as well but somehow they are able to space everything out enough on the housewares shelves to make it look full. There are plenty of knick knacks for crafting and kitchen supplies and animal toys. The video and video game section is getting smaller as the days go by but where that section is getting smaller, the books are getting larger. The people are reasonably friendly as well, but they all seem to be huddle near the front and there isn't really anyone out on the floor if for some reason you need help. One thing I don't like that all VV's have changed is not putting the color of the tag of the day that is on sale in a more visible place. They only put one sign on the entrance door so if you miss it when you're coming in, you have to walk all the way back to the front to either look for yourself or ask on of the employees. They used to put the color on several of the racks throughout the store. I guess it shouldn't matter as much as they never have any items on the racks that are the color of the day. They always reorganize the racks so that all the colors are in order, so it's easier to see how many of the 50% off color are still available after I believe it's 8 weeks on the rack. I always wonder if they just pull all the ones that are the right color the night before and hold them until the color comes back up on the color wheel or they just retag them with the latest color so that they don't have to give as many items at 50% off. The shopping center itself is pretty sparsely populated and Value Village is basically the only thing worthwhile in this center. read more

I took donations there about a week ago. There were 3 employees standing around talking to each other, not helping the customers at all. The girl told me what they would take and what cart to put it in between visiting with the other employees. Today my sister went to drop some donations off. She came back and said she was never going there again. The employees were not only rude by snotty. Too bad-we used to love this place. The employees now are terrible and we won't be back. read more

Sometimes good prices and items here, but it's become way too frustrating buying clothes here. (With the exception of jackets and shoes as those can be tried on.) Value Village gives you only two weeks to return your clothes and exchange for something else. If you're like alot of women half of what you like doesnt look good on you once you try it on. Who has time to play merry go round buying clothes, trying on at home, (as there are no dressing rooms) then returning to Value Village and hopefully finding more things you like, bringing those things home, trying them on.... oops more stuff that doesnt fit well, return, on and on like a Merry Go Round.....and all this must be completed within two weeks. Pain in the butt. Goodwill (which used to be my second choice far after Value Village) has removed the convenience of a dressing room as well, but at least they give you a card for your returned items and you can return on your own time to exchange for something else. read more

I often drop my donations here mostly because they're so amazing and friendly and helpful. Their attitudes are always really great at the donations and they always wished me to have a great day. I also want to talk about my experience inside the store, it's always really clean and well organized! That's hard to do for a thrift store and I should know I'm a thriftin queen! In particular there's a woman named aria who I always look forward to saying hello to because she is super positive and friendly and offers great customer service! I gave this place 10 out of 10 for friendliness and organization. The prices are high but they always have some tag on sale, and If you donate you get a coupon for 20% off! read more

We have far away savers and have been to savers in Vegas and Albuquerque. You have to figure out their sale days and sign up for their emails and program with points if you go a lot. As per all thrift stores some things over priced some under. Best find was a pair of suede Nine West boots for 8.99. What I don't understand is the Washington state sales tax as in California non profits are exempt and don't charge tax. So that adds 10% to prices which you have to think about. read more

Flipping a house a few blocks away and donating 90% of the items at this VV. However, most coupons and vouchers to this store that they hand out expired over a year ago. I took it into the store to talk to the manager and told her the situation and she called me a liar, saying that I forged those coupons. All self checkouts now, poor stock, over priced, they destroy records by placing stickers on them. They charge five times more for than Dollar Tree for Dollar Tree stock. Really sad state of affairs. Overall impression: The quality/ selection wasn't great and it was all overpriced. Maternity, baby, and kids selection is very over priced for used dingy clothes. What brought me in to this specific store: My mom had bought some maternity pants, which ended up not fitting, so I wanted to return them. When I got to the store(receipt in hand) they said they only exchange, not return and it has to be within 7 days of purchase, which was today. Then when I went to exchange them I was informed I couldn't because I took the tag off. So now I'm stuck with pants that don't fit and am frustrated enough with the whole experience to not be supporting value village in the future. I visit this location pretty frequently and I always get an amazing find. I seem to prefer value village over other thrift stores since it seems like their intake is held at more of a standard. The staff at this location are always so sweet and have great style. read more

One star only because they NEVER have carts. This is literally the only store I've ever seen where people line up to wait for carts after people are checking out. This is an everyday thing. I can understand maybe running out of carts on a busy Saturday afternoon, but they're running out in the middle of the week. I bring my toddler with me and I have to wait in line for a cart to put her in. They already cheaped our by replacing all the checkouts with self checkout, at least get more than five carts in your store. read more

Used to love this value village. Unfortunately, whoever is pricing the items now, is getting a bit out of control. I come in occasionally to look for some gems. Hadn't been in a few months since yesterday. Crazily overpriced. That's horrible for a second hand shop considering a lot of low income families come here for bargains. Just because it's in university place (which would be considered a more wealthy part of the area) doesn't mean you should over price your items like crazy. For example, they priced an extremely faded bad condition Calvin Klein plain long sleeve tee shirt at 12.99. Pretty ridiculous considering the condition... all because it's Calvin Klein???? I love this place. I mainly go here for childrens book and toys. I have purchased a few pairs of workout pants as well. Their book selection for children varies, but is awesome! Buy 4 books, get 1 free. We usually get 10 because they are only $1-2. The toys aren't the greatest, but with a little TLC and some cleaning, my daughter gets plenty more life out of them. Prices aren't bad, selection is okay. It depends what you're looking for. Staff is really nice and overall, I would recommend it. read more
